BOTB (Battle of the Boards) aka the inter tennis-forum Pick'em competition

Some sad news from Steven (@GBtennis) who set up this competition 6 years ago and has seen it through many ups and downs.

Wholehearted thanks to him and Imoen/Bethan who put in so much work throughout the Masters and Slams when the competition was run.

BOTB tennis pick'ems ‏@botb1 (https://twitter.com/botb1) 26m (https://twitter.com/botb1/status/337567851554680832) Sorry to have to announce that there will be no 'Battle of the Boards' competition for Roland Garros - other commitments getting in the way! 2013 is an unpredictable year for both organisers for different reasons, so (to end ongoing uncertainty) there will be no more BOTBs in 2013

We will see how we are placed at the end of the year & if it looks like we will be able to run a full schedule (at least for slams) in .... 2014 & there is still demand for the competition, we will restart again then (hopefully with some improvements to make processing easier)

Hopefully it's not the end then, but thanks to all of you who have taken part in nearly 50 BOTBs over 6 years & helped to make them fun :-)

(... & yes, BOTB rankings buffs, even if we don't end up carrying on, I will get the final sets of BOTB rankings up later in the year ;-) )

There will be other organisations doing brackets. For eg ESPN is doing one but I don't think it caters for groups. Maybe we can all do the same bracket and find a way to compare.

I started playing BOTB quite late but really enjoyed it once I did.

Sad news that there won't be another BOTB this year as it can be quite addictive, but a lot of work involved and totally understand that Steven and Bethan need at least at break and real life sometimes takes over! Thanks so much for all your efforts in the past.

I feel your pain. I sooo appreciate that competition! It's nuts and free and we get nothing but mostly heart-ache and excrutiating pain in the gut when those muppets disappointed us! hehe I will miss the comp. Hopefully Steven/Bethan can get it going again.

I'm trying to fill the void by running my own comp to emulate BOTB. Would anyone be interested? It's solely to replace it. I'm not trying to take over or anything. It's my 1st time so don't expect anything great! lol But, if I see enough interest (I know not a lot of time left), I will run it.

Absolutely! By the way, I'm still accepting late entries... I may end up making it a 64-Draw tourney and since no match has yet finished might allow a few...

Think using the same entries would be really good idea,since some of us didn't see the other comp last night and ensures a fair number of entries for both!

Its a great idea T3nnisFan and looks good. I didn't have time to put my entry into yours, but I had intended to - I only just got my TFF dreamteam in with one minute to spare!!! You are welcome to add the entry I gave Manaus.

Maybe peeps can put their heads together before Wimbledon. The Tennis Channel does one with groups, but it is only meant to be for people living in the USA. And if more entrants are wanted I guess Steven could be asked if he would tweet the link.

I quickly looked on here before going off to church this morning so did a hasty entry for T3nnisFan's pick'em. I think, as far as I remember, that I did the same picks as for Manaus' pick'em - but I only did that very quickly to test his spreadsheet before he put the thread up, and haven't bothered to go back and do a more studied entry, so I may have forgotten exactly what my picks were. I know that if I'd known who the qualifiers were I would definitely have picked differently for at least one of the QvQ matches, but I deliberately chose the same pick for the second pick'em even though I no longer think it's the right pick (if that makes sense!).

I didn't enter the Tennis Channel one 'cos it says you have to be resident in USA.

I don't think the Tennis Channel one says for just the US because of prizes. I don't think they actually stop anyone from entering.

Although I would have chosen the other qualifier had I known who they were when I made my original picks, I deliberately chose the same one that I'd picked before, to make sure that both my entries are the same. Anyone watching any of the matches? Raonic lost it there for a bit but overall played very well I thought.

Too bad Andy dropped out though. With BOTB being cancelled this year, what a double-whamy! :( I really wanted to see him fight the members of the "Top 4"!
