Queens Final 2013
The defending champion faces the 2 times former champion.
An interesting match up ...
Marin Cilic, the very tall Croatian, has found form on grass very quickly this year.
Unfortunately for him it's Andy Murray, the world ranked #2, who leads their H2H by 8-1. (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=C977&oId=MC10)
(and 3-0 on grass). And Murray has found his range too on the green, green, grass of home. And, having already won Queens twice (2009 and 2011) he's fast making it 'his' event.
Quite a few of the forum members witness their Davis Cup clash on Wimbledon Court 1 in 2007 and we know Marin can produce some excellent tennis but somehow he seems to find it difficult getting past Andy. 'oor man has already beaten the Croatian this year in straight sets at the Miami Masters.
Let's hope both produce some great tennis tomorrow ...
... but for Andy to lift that glorious trophy for a 3rd time!!!
:trophy:
NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME ...

Whilst they've had some tough matches only once has Cilic come out top and whilst not taking anything for granted feel in a final Andy should have the measure of Marian. Early start and hopefully Muzzah will set the pace from the off!

Thanks Sally :) I was recording on Eurosport as it begins early and thought it would just run into the next program! Who needs TV guides with Sally! Thank you!
I am recording as son has gone to church (my week to stay at home with bro) and he won't let me watch til he comes in, actually I was chuffed with this as he sometimes acts like he's not as excited with Andy playing as he used to be :). I will be cheering like mad and will be on as soon as a I catch up. I have watched most matches all week like this so haven't been on at any normal times of the day!

For some reason singles final now scheduled to start at 12.15,Eurosport's coverage starting at 12.10 and BBC1 AT 12.20.
Really excited for today's line-up, pity it isn't Berdych in the final with Andy (for obvious reasons!) but still uber-excited. Hopefully this will be Andy's third title along with a very funny 'Lendl-hitting' charity match  ;)

Should be a great afternoon's entertainment and feelingfairly confident that Andy will get the hat trick, bring it on!
For some reason singles final now scheduled to start at 12.15,Eurosport's coverage starting at 12.10 and BBC1 AT 12.20.
Yes, strange that they say 12pm, but the schedules of play I've seen on the ATP and Aegon site still have 12.20pm. Also, no stream yet either.
And apparently, rain is appearing now.
Times tennis correspondent Neil Harman at Queen's: Spits and spots of rain in the air at Queen's. Extremely frustrating
I'm looking forward to any little pre-match final videos that they usually play before the final, including interviews with the players and all that - these are usually exciting, the one they did for the 2012 Wimby final was epic!
Also very much looking forward to seeing Ross again this afternoon :cheer:
And apparently, rain is appearing now.

It's just spitting at the moment so hopefully it'll clear.
Probably time I get on my sofa and turn the TV on now! Deciding not to forum-watch the final today, probably best to keep my eyes on just one screen rather than two ;)
Covers are coming on now. :crying:

Just typical when they brought it forward, however feeling is that the drizzle won't last too long.
Ah well, I will continue to watch Baltacha in Nottingham where she is leading Majeric by 1 set and 3-2. Go Bally!!
TV is showing 3rd set of Andy v. JWT yesterday
They're interviewing Tim ahead of the doubles that follow the final. The weather is looking a lot brighter, and hardly any brollies are up now, so hopefully play will start soon.

16-06-2013, 12:03
We could have a quick FTW - Forecast The Weather competition.
1. Will the day's programme be completed?
2. Andy's final.
3. How many rain interruptions will there be in Andy's match?
1. Not sure.
2. Yes

2 - yes - the forecast has improved :)

Queens BBC TV coverage is off the air for half an hour while we wait for the rain to stop again... Andy/Cilic back into the locker room and soon probably the player's lounge.

Very frustrating, just hope there will be a sustained period of dry weather! Showing Andy v Tsonga right now on Eurosport and obviously Ross there again, heard from Tim along with Michael McInytre and Jimmy Carr.
We've had Escape to the Country and now Nigel Slater! Just want tennis - the final and the rally against cancer match - our weather is so frustrating!

Easy hold for Andy, now to go after the break.
david1610
16-06-2013, 14:36
0-40. Let's get the first one this time please!
Yes! Was worried Andy would let another 0-40 first game receiving present pass him by. Not today!
Hope he wants to finish quickly to get the charity match played.
Now consolidate please!
C'mon Andy!
Early break in the bag!
Andy don't give back the break, hold!
david1610
16-06-2013, 14:44
Already an important game. Lots of deuces on Andy's serve.
C'mon Andy!
:phew: Had to save a couple of BPs but holds.
david1610
16-06-2013, 14:54
Easier hold this time. 4-1 Cilic playing a bit better but Andy also serving a bit better. C'mon Andy!
JAMES4578
16-06-2013, 14:59
Great start from Andy but Cilic putting him under some pressure now, come on!
Trouble again for Andy, please hold!
david1610
16-06-2013, 15:03
Mmm... why is it never straightforward with Andy?
Will be more difficult to break again as Cilic much more in the match now.
Oh well... c'mon Andy!
It's not going to be as it first seemed. Cilic reading Andy's game well.
dropped his serve, pressing too soon?
Break back now please Andy.
Hmm, I'm not too worried - Andy looks well in control of this game even despite being broken back. He'll break back, I'm sure of it.
He'll be fine... just believe!
david1610
16-06-2013, 15:11
Eek! Andy grimacing after his fall. Perhaps three-quarter serves?
C'mon Andy!
Hope it hasn't spoilt his rhythm.
JAMES4578
16-06-2013, 15:15
Thank goodness that tumble wasn't serious but Andy not looking so confident with movement now, come on! pity he couldn't capitalise on 15-40 after having been broken back. Vital game here and saves bp to hold for 5-4, come on!
david1610
16-06-2013, 15:15
Just hope the charity thing has not meant that Andy has put extra pressure on himself today.
C'mon Andy!
I don't want to see the slip again thank you very much!
Now just to break him and get this set!!!
cilic at 4-5, time to get in, andy!
cilic at 4-5, time to get in, andy!

Cilic certainly not giving it up too easily... COME ON ANDY!!

Aargh! Has Andy won any points from his drop shots today!
C'mon Andy!
Keep cool Andy. Don't go back to your old ways!!
cilic at 6-5!, best hope now is a tb!
Ouch broken and not looking good. He's getting rather annoyed now.
david1610
16-06-2013, 15:25
I know he had a fall but he has basically imploded in the second half of this set and he is getting angry in the way he used to which means lose of focus ... do not know if it is the added tension of "playing at home"/the charity match but....
Get your head together and break back please.
Reset. Refocus. You are the better tennis player.
C'mon Andy!
JAMES4578
16-06-2013, 15:25
oh no Andy not quite finding top form and Cilic breaks again, but how many netcords is that now!
Break him back and take him in the TB! :sofa:
I think Cilic is giving him more than he bargained for perhaps?
Now Andy! Break back pleeeeze!!
2 BPs, Come on Andy! Earn that tiebreak!

Good love hold to start. Now focus and break Andy.
Looked like Andy would break back but he loses the set, really needs to focus and get back on track!
Well he lost the first set in the 2011 final to Tsonga (as we all know by now from the endless repeats of that match on the BBC the last few days !!!!).
Thinking about it though the fact he has lost the first set might help him, he has come from behind in a Queens final and from Cilic before, maybe this is what he needs to focus his mind more, whether that be conscious or subconscious!
Gone from a pleasant afternoons viewing to a bit of a bumpy murraycoaster. Only positive i can think is that it is good match practice.
Just what I was thinking.....something tough to deal with ready for Wimbledon!
very confident first game, and a looong slide, bit risky on grass i'd've thought

Both are important.
This is for him and what he has worked for, the other is for his friend and what he is going though.
Break to take the set would be perfect now.
Just need to break the Cilic serve here and we are into a decider.
I do not fancy going through a second set tiebreak, although that is what happened in the 2011 final with Andy winning it - that was then, this is now. C'MON ANDY!

Brilliant from Andy! Says he wants to win the match against Lendl even more than the final, referring to it as 'all this nonsense'
Priceless :)

Certainly a tough challenge and Andy struggled in parts of the match but he stepped it up when he had to and the 3rd set was magnificent. A 3rd queens title and great preparations for Wimbledon even if he will want to find the high level more consistently.:clap::clap::bravo:
And now the fun begins............

The tears have begun early this year. Murray talks about his best friend @RoscoHutchins on court at Queen's. Not a dry eye in the house
Big Congrats Andy, perfect preparation for Wimbledon and you managed to hit Lendl on TV - Wonder how many youtube views that will get
Great day for Andy. So glad he won. Next time he plays I will be in the UK. :)
Congratulations Andy. :bravo: :boogie:

That was a match that lived up to expectations, bringing the best out of both of them but Andy prevailed in the end and outwitted Cilic, it was worth the wait
Very well done Andy! Thanks for waiting till I got home before you started to play! (Well, I guess I should thank the rain really!)
:trophy::GBsmile:
Well! Of course I missed it all as I was at Eastbourne for the day. The rain delayed the matches by 3 hours at Eastbourne, but it was eventually a lovely sunny afternoon/evening. Just as Tara had lost her very close match  a friend texted me to say that play had started at Queens and Andy was 4-2. So I thought, he's in control of the match and I don't need to worry. It must have been nearly two hours later that I sent her a text saying 'I assume he's won by now?' and was very surprised to get the answer 'Not quite - its 5-7, 7-5, 5-2'. I wondered how on earth he'd lost the first set after being a break up! All these years following Andy and I still don't expect a Murraycoaster. Of course she let me know when he had finally won.
So well done Andy

Well done Andy, a good win today and great day all round in the end. Nice to see the trophy back with him, well deserved. All the best for Wimbledon!
Yabadabadoooooooooo! Well done Andy! So proud of him! Three times a king of Queens! Gutted I didn't get to watch this and of course with the whole scheduling, it didn't record. Waiting for it to come onto BBC iplayer so I can watch it. Am sure I'll be in tears during the part of speech of Andy talking about Rosco #bestfriends
Finally I got to watch some live tennis from Queens! Saw the last 2 sets - thank you rain! So happy to see Andy win the title. He was brilliant in the last set. Loved the speech, he is such a sensitive soul.
Haven't watched the rally against cancer yet - had to feed husband after the final but have that recorded to watch tonight. Can't wait for Wimby now!!!!!
:bravo: Well done Andy, congrats on a good win :) 3 times a Queens' champion. Thank goodness for the rain - it meant I got to watch (just as well since setting the recorder obviously didn't work with the scheduling change!). Looking good for our favourite two weeks at SW19, just beware of Mr Lendl this week!

Just read through the thread feeling the tension!
It was a superb match, and I had a lovely day with a great view and seeing Andy play for the first time live was amazing. I went to Wimbledon a few years ago but only saw a few doubles matches on No1 court and apart from the Williams sisters they werent top seeds.
Seeing Andy and Cilic play was sooo good seeing the power and the strength and the speed of their shots just makes me love the game (and Andy) even more!
Think my sisters appreciation of Andy has stepped up a notch, her comment on first seeing him was he has a very nice physique lol
I am so pleased he won and not just cos I was there but think the preparation for Wimbledon is important after the injury, I had my heart in my mouth when he fell I thought oh no!
I tried to cheer and shout as much as I could, luckily the crowd warmed up after he won the 2nd set.
The charity stuff was great too and a laugh and the whole day was just brilliant. Buzz gone now so roll on Wimbledon!

seems to start near the end of the first set

Big thanks to tournament director Chris Kermode for making @RoscoHutchins vision for #rallyagainstcancer a reality. Best in the business.

Yes, a great day to be there but, boy oh boy, weren't the crowd hard to get going !! I know it wasn't the case but at times I felt as if Iwas the only A ndy fan for miles around. They did warm up a bit at the end of the second set but Andy could have used a lot more vocal support. I hope he gets a bit more at Wimbledon
These 'polite' crowds frustrate me

Absolutely!! And some people who would normally shout feel self concious when it's so quiet
Yes, when it's quiet it does make you feel self conscious. At Eastbourne on Sunday, I cheered intermittently for Tara and for Blake, but as very few people were cheering, it stopped me from cheering as often as I would have done.
FANTASTIC - just back from Portugal where thankfully I was able to watch this unhampered by the Beeb's usually shennanigans (we can't get BBC3 or the red button out there - so missed the end of the doubles and all of the stars' match :grrr:). Was worried about all Andy's old style chuntering at the outset but he got a grip on himself and noticeably improved when he focussed on the next point rather than the last. Another fine example of his change in mentality and the strength it affords him when his back is against the wall.

I was there too, a bit concerned about his chuntering but the atmosphere was flat for a while. I think people livened up a bit when Cilic broke back and they thought there was a match on.
