This could be quite a tough first round match for Andy - because Marcos leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=B837) 3-1.

Both men have a Far East tournament under their belts already having played in ATP250's last week. Baggy played in Kuala Lumpur (as a Wildcard) where he lost in the Final to first time ATP winner Janko Tipsarevic. Muzzah won the Bangkok title in fine style yesterday. Both will have then had to travel on to Tokyo (with a 2hr time difference) and this match has probably been scheduled Wednesday to give both time to recover from going deep in those tournaments.

Baggy has already beaten Andy this year; 6-4, 6-1 in R1 of the Rotterdam 500. Most acknowledge that Andy wasn't at his best playing his first match after losing the AO Final to Nole a couple of weeks before.
The Cypriot also beat Andy in 2006 in the R16 at Wimbledon and the following year in R1 at the Cincinnati Masters.

Intriguingly Andy's only success against Marcos was on clay in a 4 sets win in the R32 at Roland Garros 2010.

Andy might have his work cut out to win this match. He's said he hopes to make it to world #3 by the end of the year and getting this R1 match won would be another step towards that.

Andy and Jamie are scheduled to play their first round doubles match tomorrow (Tuesday 4th Oct).

So, this match will be Wednesday 5th, time tbc when the OOP is released.

12noon Japan is 4am so that is when the first match starts 'cos they are 8hr ahead of BST.
14.00hrs Japan is 06.00hrs here for the Murray match and is a bit less onerous than 4am!

Eurosport always used to cover mens tennis in the mid 90s and not the womens. Their excuse was that more people were watchig womens tennis, but I don't see how they can say that now when we have the best era in men's tennis ever.

Match synopsis

After a shaky start to the first set, dropping his serve in the 2nd game, Muzzah broke back and thereafter games remained on serve taking it to a tie-break. After a hold from Baggy, on the first point, neither player held serve until a couple of DF's from Baggy at *4-3 gave Andy 2 points for *5-4. Thankfully Andy held his serve this time and took the tb 7'6(4).

The second set saw a dip from Andy and Baggy stormed to a very quick 4-1 lead. Although Muzzah tried to come back he left the challenge a bit late and the set went 6'2 to Marcos.

Another tough start to the 3rd set and Baggy got another early break. However at 1-3 Andy came back to level at 3-3 and it stayed on serve thereafter. Andy finally got the win after a hard fought final game which went to 5 deuces before a couple of DF's from Baggy gave Andy a chance to take the match.

7'6, 2'6, 6'4 - tough but Andy came through it.

Let's hope tomorrow is less stressful - having got that out of the way he could go the whole route now.
I think he reached the quarters last year so he needs to at least match those points ! I'll settle for the final though.

Andy didn't play in Tokyo last year, he played in Beijing, where he was recovering from a virus and went our early. I think this match will have helped Andy as he said he finds it
hard coming from an indoor court to outdoor one. He will now have got used to the conditions and those he has yet to face have not just come back from being a Finalist as
Baggy had. So I expect the wins to be easier ones, until the end of the Tournament.:highfive: Well done Andy.

Andy did well to come through that match. Baggy is just a bad matchup for him, it happens sometimes with certain players. I think he'd rather play Fed than Baggy!
