View Full Version : WIMBLEDON 2013, ROUND 2: Andy says Toodle Lu!!! Wins 6'3, 6'3, 7'5

It's Round 2, so it must be Lu!!!
;)

Andy takes on his Olympic 2008 nemesis on Wednesday in his R2 match.
He's already avenged that loss by beating the Taipai man in 2 sets at Indian Wells earlier this year.
But he'll have to beat him again to progress to Round 3.

Their H2H is 1-1, i.e. those 2 matches, and although Lu has clearly adjusted to the grass at Wimbledon the world #75 is probably at more of a disadvantage against Muzzah here in his own 'backyard'.

The match will be scheduled for Wednesday; court and time to be confirmed.

Go Muzzah!!!

And of course when he beat Andy at the Olympics Andy was ill-prepared, jet-lagged and had been at the Opening Ceremony. Now he is an Olympic Champion and a Grand Slam winner....bit of a difference. I'm sure, though, that Andy will be taking him very seriously. Go Andy!!:GBflag:

Andy was also very dehydrated as he hadn't taken in enough fluids during the flight over and before the match, looked really terrible in his singles and doubles with Jamie. Should be a completely different story this time especially as he beat him in straight sets in Indian Wells.

After having watched two sets of the Lu/Ward match I'd think Lu doesn't stand that much of a chance against Andy on grass here at Wimbledon, he's just in a different class. But I don't want to get carried away, after seeing Darcis knock out Rafa today I'm careful not to take anything for granted here. Grass is so unpredictable and that's why it is such a great surface IMO.

harriet
25-06-2013, 08:17
well, I was annoyed with Ward for not taking any of his many chances, but Lu is very tenacious, Andy had better not switch off as he did when playing Becker.

I think the talk that this will be difficult, because Murray lost in straight sets in the 2008 Olympics, is a dumb way to look at it! Andy is 5 years older and 10x more talented. 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 Murray me thinks.

Andy v Lu is 2nd on Court 1 after Verdasco v Benneteau.
Could be anytime between 3pm and 5pm start .....

I really am stunned. Why is he on court 1 ? You think we would give him the best opportunity to win it . Tsgona and Gulbis ? Obv i can see why Feds there. Ridiculous scheduling , hes a home hope and hes put on court 1 .

Wimbledon normally try to balance the top seeds between CC and court 1. I don't think it matters all that much if Andy is on CC or court 1, it's the same for both players. And likely Fed will be on court 1 for the next round anyway (assuming he goes through).
Will have to miss this unfortunately unless it starts late. All the best Andy. :cheer:

Andy has played one match on court 1 for a few years now. Think the only problem with court 1 is of course you can have rain delays but forecast seems fine for tomorrow.

Yes, am sure Andy cannot go the whole tournament on centre and let's get that match out of the way!
If I was a neutral, in terms of a good possible tennis match, the Tsonga Gulbis could be a much more open match (having said that Gulbis won't turn up) so I also understand that.
And who knows - maybe Roger will have to be on number 1 at an inappropriate time!

Why can't Andy be on centre court for every match? Does Rafa play a match on a lesser court at the French? Andy should be on centre every time, it's called home advantage.

Perhaps the previous year's champion gets to be on centre Court all the time? Next year I'm sure Andy will be on Centre all the time because he'll be the champion!!

The top players expect to have to play at least one of their early round matches on Court 1. I would rather Andy got it out of the way today, with a fine weather forecast, than later in the week. Let's leave the risk of showers to be coped with by Fed - would be v.funny if he was on No.1 and got a rain delay......

Really hope Andy is on nearer to 3pm than 5pm - 5 really is the worst time, just as people are getting ready to leave work and travel home, thereby missing most of it. 3pm means I can keep sneaking a look......

Anyway, very best of luck Andy - expecting another nice straightforward win please!

26-06-2013, 10:18
Wimbledon always try to put each of the top players on court one at least once - even the saint Fed takes his turn.

This afternoon should be fairly straightforward - if Lu was a bit unconvincing at times against James, Andy should be able to get a 3-setter. The Olympic result really means nothing now.
I am more concerned what will be happening between Robredo and Mahut - both could give Andy a serious work-out in the next round

They changed 1/2 way through the match from 1 to 2, this is so typical of the BBC i dont know why they cant just leave a whole match on one station
especially as they show the whole match but just jump back and forth between 1,2 and red button

What format do you watch it on, BBC have Wimbledon specific channels on now, on Virgin they are channels 991 through 994 they are the red button options without having to press the red button. You can V plus them and I'm sure Sky offer the same option, not sure about free view but give it a look and don't just rely on BBC 1 or 2.
