03-07-2013, 16:39
No I don't think he has, well he hasn't from when I become available to watch it - missed the first set and half of the second.
Although if Andy wins this is 5, it is something Lendl will be having words with to Andy about in the next match I would think.
I think the problem at the beginning, besides probably nerves, was what I mentioned last night - Andy used to beat Verdasco by being passive and letting Verdasco beat himself by becoming ragged. He has a wiser head on his shoulders now. Andy was basically punting it into the backhand corner and waiting and waiting. He also was not ruthless in his BP opportunites.
But that is the past and ... next point please Andy!

Wahey - now we're cooking on gas!
Oh good, let's hope Nando wasn't just having a rest & Andy can keep the momentum going!
Every time I start watching he loses the point so my eyes firmly down right now
Haha, don't worry!
But just in case: :cauldron:

Well, that's a lot better! Andy's level has gone up and Nando's has gone down. :)

I think there is some truth to what you are saying here. Andy was shockingly passive like he was at times back in 07, 08, 09 etc and Andy owned Verdasco those years but andy should live in the present not the past and Lendl will give him a right tongue lashing after this match im sure.

Murray's won more points that Verdasco as it stands #Wimbledon
Yup, Andy has won 82 points and Verdasco 79 for the whole of the match.

Well, the fightback is in full flow but there is little room for error.
please, whoever it is who decides these things, let Andy win this match. I'm a good person, don't ask for much, am kind to animals, respect my elders and don't drop litter. Thank you.

Yes, good point! Although Andy has learnt from that now, he's pushing him harder now and I'm guessing (as well as hoping) he will continue that. Verdasco surely will be getting tired soon.

One down two to go and no leeway when it comes to any waywardness on his own serve. Andy needs to focus here. C'mon Andy!

That's a great point to make. Makes me feel much happier for these next two sets too. I'm just waiting to see Nando getting tired.
Shame - that was an important hold for Verdasco. Andy must hold now to keep the momentum going.

It would be good to have an easy hold now Andy.
OK Andy. Don't despair. I think you can WIN!
Janowicz has just won the battle of the Poles (no surprise there).
So winner of this has Janowicz next, rather tough opponent.

Nando looks slightly tired now to me, but maybe that's wishful thinking....
I like the way Verdasco is silent. Andy could do well to stop the groans that give him away a bit.
If Andy can break and take this fourth set, I very much fancy his chances in winning the match.
C'MON ANDY! Take this to a fifth!

If you say so feel free to quote me if JJ doesn't win. I would love to be proven wrong but if you think Andy is having problems with Verdasco then just waiting until JJ starts booming serves and massive forehands but along with droppers from both wings which Verdasco never does.

Ok, well I see where you are coming from. But after watching tennis for years my experience tells me to treat each match very differently, circumstances and mentality can change in a snap second, it's all about how one can control your brain and therefore your play (yet there's still an element of luck involved, although some would argue you make your own luck!)

Yes I have seen some of his matches. He is a very tough opponent, noone wants to have to play him, although Andy is known as one of the best returners in the game, surely that counts for something. Besides he will chat with Danni and Lendl about tactics and I'm sure they will have something to say in terms of game plan for that, question you should be asking though is can JJ break Andy, that's what'll make the difference.

Well he's broken Kubot a few times today and he's got a handy serve, yes Andy is a much better player than Kubot but then Andy is a much better player than Verdasco too and look what has happened here. Andy will have had a tactics for today as well but I cannot believe Lendl told him to be so passive so Andy does what he wants anyway on court regardless of what Ivan says.
Andy will have his chances against JJ for sure and he will take some of them it's whether he can take enough and I personally do not believe he is playing well enough to do so atm.

Well yes Andy is in a completely different league to Kubot, all respect for Kubot on getting to the quarterfinals though, that's amazing news for him and Poland! Yes I would say Andy is a better player than Verdasco (of course I'd say that though as I'm a Andy Murray fanatic, most of us here are!!) but situation and circumstance is what matters and to me Verdasco's 'nothing to lose' attitude mixed with Andy's poor choice of staying around the baseline is probably the most likely cause to Murray losing the first two sets. Yet Andy is currently showing he is a champion and I would say that is down to his mental strength in bringing his game out and changing his tactics around. Andy would do the same if he gets through to play JJ, yet the tactical talk will be more focused as JJ's strengths are much more obvious than Verdasco's. Besides the tactical talk with Verdasco was probably a little bit sheltered with playing a leftie as Andy hasn't played a lefty in 2013 yet.
If Andy wins this I have him as the favourite to beat JJ.

3-3. Really want Andy to get a break now. :sofa:
Looking at the stats, Verdasco is winning more of his second serves now. Verdasco won 86% of second serves in the fifth set and only around 10-50% in the first 4 sets.
That's right make very run around a bit more.
Verdy not very.

Hmmm, C'mon Andy! You can still win this, you've some back from 2 sets down and you're still in this fifth set. Keep the pressure up, we know you have the skills to beat him.
Nando's serving amazingly well - he has nothing to lose of course. From now on Andy has to serve to stay in it.

No tie-breaks in the fifth - we just keep going.
No, think they mean sudden death in the fact that once he's been broken he will lose (Nando served first in this fifth set)
