No tie-breaks in the fifth - we just keep going.

I meant that we keep going until someone breaks and holds - sorry didn't explain it well.
So here we go. :sofa:

Alis

No, think they mean sudden death in the fact that once he's been broken he will lose (Nando served first in this fifth set)

Oh, OK.

I am slightly worried that there is no tie break and we just keep going if it gets to that stage.

Going to be tough as Andy said in stupid interview its not easy getting into semis, even though he has done it 5 years in a row its hard so getting into final is even harder whoever he played.
I do think he is the most dangerous opponent andy has faced this tournament though

Alis

He may well be, but Andy has the easiest opponent of the 4 left, and anybody would have taken Janovic in the semi over Fed or Rafa at the start of the event

The difference being that Janowicz has nothing to lose. He's made a GS semi for the first time - anything more is a bonus - he will feel he can swing freely. Whereas Fed and Rafa would have had much more pressure.

david1610
03-07-2013, 18:55
I do think he is the most dangerous opponent andy has faced this tournament though
I agree. But I also think one advantage Andy has is the match-after-extreme-elation. Another big, big, big advantage is the fact that JJ played another Pole today. Both of them made history for their country in the all Polish QF.
That could help Andy if any part of JJ is celebrating rather than looking forward. Yes, free swinging, but also potentially loss of concentration. Andy has to get off to a good start. Serve first if he can win the toss. Normally I do not like Andy doing this in case he is not "fully there" but I do not want him having to serve at 4-5 in the first set when he has his nerves - we saw what happened today. Or does he run the risk of being broken in the first game?? Tricky, tricky....
Finally, rather JJ than Fed or Rafa. And of course recovery vital, especially if there are any back twinges. Andy might have to think about a different strategy as well for match if he has to win points more quickly.
Lots to mull over.... but for now relief!

Wow what a match! :GBflag: Have to say Nando played a blinder, his serve and forehand were on fire! I was definitely nervous! Huge credit to Andy for coming through, just shows how mentally tough he is. Even final set Nando was playing well yet Andy found a way through, so happy :boogie: Just shows that it really is one match at a time. I thought Nando would be tricky but not to that degree. So pleased he made it  As for that interviewer - horrendous, what a joke! Think Andy took it in his stride but you could tell he was irritated by some of the poor questions. Very best of luck for Friday Andy

Has one of yous been at Garry Richardsons wiki page?

'After Andy Murray's 5 set win against Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2013, this after coming from 2-0 down, Gary decided that he wanted to be the centre of attention. Asking Murray if coach Lendl would give him the 'hairdryer' treatment just because Sir Alex Ferguson was in the crowd, then asking Murray "if [he] knew it all?". Murray couldn't hide his contempt for Richardson as he finished the interview and walked off. It was admirable that Murray did not punch him afterwards.'

Just made my first ever complaint to the BBC (proud). Here it is:

I find myself in absolute disgust at the way Garry Richardson interviewed Andy Murray after his win against Fernando Verdasco. The crass & inane questions were an embarrassment to the BBC, a world leader in broadcasting. Just what Mr Richardson was trying to achieve by asking such idiotic questions, I do not know. I expect & demand better from the BBC. You have plenty of excellent sports reporters like Kheredine Idessane who have a much more informed & engaging style for doing these types of interview.

Just watched the recording :phew: :phew: :phew:

Lovely moment at the net at the end.

I too felt deep down he'd win even at 2 sets down but he could have done with not expending all that energy ahead of Friday's match, particularly if he does get past JJ - I have a feeling DP may withdraw and leave a very fresh Nole awaiting the outcome on Sunday.

If Andy was average the other day (and IMHO he was) then the first set today was even worse. I can't remember the last time I saw him play so badly - and it wasn't all down to FerVer playing well - he was making way too many UEs and poor shot choices - drop shots of old. The difference? In his demeanour and his head. Bar a couple of mutterings here and there, he looked fairly cool, calm and collected. By the end of the 5th set normal service (sorry - no pun intended) was resumed and we were seeing the tennis of which we know he's capable.

That said, I fear he'll need his A game from the outset on Friday and I hope he didn't peak earlier in the tournie and I also hope his back is not a problem. Most people seem to think JJ is preferable to Rafa or Fed but there's the old saying "better the devil you know". At least Andy knows how to tackle those 2 but he's not nearly so familiar with the new version of JJ. He can't afford to lose serve. Saying that, I'm not sure how great JJ's opponents have been as returners - Andy is the master and you could see today that he started to read Nando's serve pretty well after a while.

Ah well, what will be will be. Just hope Andy comes out swinging and gives it his all. I'm sure he will.

Wow! That was EXHAUSTING to watch. Cried at the end. So relieved he won.

Re: the post match interview ESPN (Brad and Darrin) both gave the interviewer two red cards - each!!!

I had to go out at 1-1 in the 5th. Very glad to find that Andy won. Have to feel sorry for Nando of course. Who is this Gary Richardson that you are all complaining about?

God that was horribly stressy.
So stressed my husband has taken me out for a drink to calm down!!
Andy was very lucky there - that was so close.
What an insensitive person Richardson is - he really is offensive.

I hope Andy can up his game for Friday. I hope his hip is okay too cause that seemed to be troubling him.

I must admit John McEnroe (who was ESPN commie) did say he thought Andy would come back to win after he lost the second set. I clung on to that for the rest of the match. Plus the thought that he won vs Gasquet from two sets down.

Btw: I swear Nando`s hair didn`t move at all! How does he do that.

He must use glue instead of hair gel. Or maybe it's a wig :rolling:

Yes, that gets a big fat 0 in my book! He`s lucky to have a fine head of hair tho`- and if you look at his dad you know it`ll be with him when he gets old, lucky thing. Altho`he may need to dip into some hair dye. And I don`t know how he gets it to look quite so glossy.

Oh my flippin life!! What a murraycoaster of a match that was!! I haven't seen Andy play as badly as he did in parts of those first 2 sets for a long long time. BUT I still had faith that he would pull it out, he has done it so many times before and obviously knew he could play much, much better.

I was sobbing at the end! So much pent up emotion and relief. Jerzy is a scary prospect but I'm backing our boy, he can do this folks.

Hey all I was there today had court one tickets and then sneaked out to henman hill to watch last bit of Andy I couldn't have watched the first two sets! Jerzy played good.. But I always had an uneasy feeling about Andy playing nando I knew he would be big trouble.. But I have a good feeling about Fri match.. He's a huge strong player but I really think Andy will be able to out manoeuvre him from what I saw today. One of the commies said jj was shaking after his match.. I think he has invested a lot emotionally so far and think Andy will capitalise on his lack of experience. Anyway.. That's my thoughts hehe. Annnddd sleep!

Pfft Andy cannot be serious. If it was a one off I could forgive but he does it time after time and year after year, he is a dreadful reporter and is a textbook lazy journalist, who clearly does not do any research for his job if he did he would ask better questions.

The only good thing I can say about THAT interview is that it showed Andy at his best - calm, dignified and very mature with his responses.

I am now extremely nervous about JJ and agree with pabbers...better the devil you know! Yesterday I did think he would recover and win but hope it didn't take too much out of him. Mind you, if his back is ok we know he is very fit and should be all right. But he has to start well and serve well. JJ has an enormous serve. I'm going to shut up as I'm making myself nervous.:nailbiter:

Well I had fun on Centre! Always felt that Andy would get it back to 2 all, but the fifth was anybody's really, I think we carried him through! :big grin:

Kudos to Verdasco, his second serve in particular was giving me the heebie jeebies!
