An early rematch between Rafa and Nole is in prospect if the seeded #1 and #2 reach the Final

It seems most of the top players have put their names down for this one - I wonder why Andy is playing Tokyo instead? Or why this one is more popular?

Perhaps the TD can't afford Andy as well ...
;)

... but the more obvious reason is SUSHI ... Andy loves it and Tokyo probably has some of the best in the world so it might well be the reason he goes.

Ah, an excellent reason! http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd287/Granny_Linda/Smileys/Eats.gif

Andy hasn't played there for a few years, he finds the conditions difficult, which is why he isn't playing there.

Beijing and Tokyo threads have been merged and both now in Tour Tennis since Andy won't be at either ...

Laura loses in straight sets 6-1 6-2. I s suffering with a cold, coughing and sneezing most of the time. Some good play at the beginning of the second set but ran out of steam.

Laura was obviously suffering physically. Although she did play really well in parts, Kerber was just too solid for her.

I was disappointed with the crushing scoreline but looks like Laura really was under the weather and Kerber obviously took advantage. Hopefully Laura more of a threat with a top 10 player the next time. Well done Colin/Jonny!

I've heard that Laura has chronic bronchitis which probably isn't helped by playing in Beijing, one of the most poluted cities in the world where locals habitually wear smog masks in their everyday life!!!

Hope she can regroup and be healthy and positive from the start of 2014.

The 6-1, 6-2 score line makes it look more one-sided than it actually was. Given the circumstances, Laura played very well in parts - she just couldn't sustain the effort.
