Dan's comments about Bedene being possibly picked for the GB Davis Cup team didn't go down well with some who still won't forgive him and call him a little Englander and xenophobic when arguably he was just looking out for himself and his position in the team. His comment at the time "But I’d say I’m a better player anyway so it shouldn’t be a selection issue." is unarguably true now. ;)

In the Times today it said that there are only 3 players in the current top 100 who went from 750 to the top 100 faster than Dan who did it in 308 days. Surprisingly they are John Isner, Taylor Fritz and Pablo Carreno Busta. Not even Federer or Rafa or Nole rose so quickly.

Hi all just finished playing poker at Genting Resorts world Birmingham (started at 2pm) Lynne and I both finished in the prizes 5th and 6th :dance:
Been thinking about Dan, his commitment and his subscribing to my mantra.
"Do it like you mean it"
Now I don't think I ever mentioned it on the forum but cast your minds back to Andys 5 setter against kie in the D C here in Dans home town of Brum, last year
Remember at the tail end of the last set when Andy couldn't seem to shake kie off no matter what and then the point when Andy suddenly hit another gear and found a way to get the job done.
There was a very important point he won that turned it all around and he looked up to where Lynne and I were standing shouting and cheering along with a bunch of other GB flag wavers.
And just at the moment he caught my eyes I shouted at the top of my voice.
NOW. LET THE ?*%/$#! LION ROAR and to my amazement he roared at me as I roared at him.
A certain Greg R was just to my right well within ear shot. He was laughing as he looked at me then he put his thumb up and clapped.
Anyway this is all leading up to after watching Dan de man roar like a lion too. In his last few matches.
It brought back those wonderful memories and how I was going to have Tee shirts made with Andys roaring expression along with my slogan, maybe with a little doctoring. Lol :whistle:;)
So if it's alright with everyone. From now on.
I'm calling him Dan de Lion. Alright flower?

So do I - he really is a joy to watch when he "feels" it. Such a natural talent and a beautiful all-court game. Some may argue no big weapons, but no big weaknesses either.

Dan was great, watching his interviews there seems to be a change in him too. He was talking about changing his diet and working harder to avoid the cramps and lack of energy that built up. I'm sure he can only improve, and he has such a great talent who knows how high he could go with better training and fitness. He also talked about the idea of moving away from Birmingham to really focus on his tennis. If he thinks it will help then it's worth a try, it surprised me though, from a guy who feels homesick when on tour. Hopefully he can get some rest and play his best tennis for team GB in Canada

Yes, very proud of him, really looking forward to seeing Dan in Ottawa. After that he is down for 3 ATP250's the following 3 weeks Montpellier, Memphis and Delray Beach but I can't see him making Montpellier directly after Ottawa with 1st round Mon/Tues

20 Mar: Miami (Mens event starts on Wed 22nd March to 2nd April)
3rd Apr: Davis Cup week, players involved head to venue anytime from Mon 3rd, tie played Fri 7th - Sun 9th April

No further public information as far as I can see.
Entry Lists are published 6 weeks in advance except Monte Carlo which is 4 weeks ahead (20/3/17 for 17/4/17).
If he's planning to play Marrakech w/c 10th April (unlikely given DC commitment) we'd know on 27th Feb.

Dan is also down for Irving ch125 next week (together with Kyle and about 30 other top100 players), so could well take up that option if he loses before then. He will be dropping 90 points from his Drummondville win in 2 weeks time, so any extra points would be welcome.

Nishikori has struggled in his first match in all tournaments he's played this year and arguably Dan will be the toughest player based on current form he's faced at this stage. Taken to a final set in Brisbane(Donaldson), AO(Kuztnetsov), Buenos Aires(Schwartzman) and really struggled in Rio where he lost in straight sets to Bellucci. Keith should have played doubles to get court time. :p

Well said Evo, well said indeed. Such a shame about the match but he's right.

As for the "audible" obcenity and the linesperson .... it is in the rules that if a linesperson hears it, even if it's not loud and unlikely to have been heard by anyone else, you are supposed to tell the umpire! I think it's ridiculous and I never did unless they actually swore at me. We were encouraged to learn foreign swear words so we would know what players were saying. There are "jobsworths" in every profession and there were a fair few linespeople I worked with who thought they were uber important and would do everything absolutely by the book rather than using common sense. Lots of them didn't seem to like many of the players and it was part of the reason I decided it wasn't for me. I am too much of a fan girl ;) :big grin:
