View Full Version : CANADIAN MASTERS 2013, R2: Murray gets his man - 6'4, 7'6 2 win over Granollers

Andy's back in action!!! That's good news ...
:boogie:

He's playing for the first time since his Wimbledon triumph on 7th July so here's hoping that number 7 continues to bring him luck. In theory luck need not come into it in this R2 match against Marcel Granollers of Spain because Andy leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=G710) 2-1 (and the loss was a retirement by Muzzah) on the ATP main tour and by 3-2 including Challengers and Futures.

However, the 27yr old Spanish player is on a bit of a roll having won a title last week in Kitzbuhel - on clay which he considers to be his favourite surface. Other than that Marcel hasn't beaten any top 20 players so far this year and a fit Murray could have carved out a win in Rome but for a back problem.

Granollers is clearly confident at the moment, having notched up a win over Dimitrov just 24hrs after flying from Austria to Canada, but fingers crossed Andy will make it past him to R3.

The match is due to be played on Wednesday 7th August - time tbc.

Bit surprised to see the result - I thought Baby Fed would win that one. However, also relieved. I really don't think Marcel has enough to take on a focused Muzzah

Never really understand the scheduling especially where Andy is concerned. Nadal played doubles yesterday and Nole had the night match in the singles and Andy has to play first match when it could be half-full and play his doubles match later. Wish him good luck and am really looking forward to seeing him in action again.

I expect the organisers think the seats will fill rapidly to see Andy. and it gives him time to recover etc and warm-up with Colin before their game

Had to watch this recorded - great win. That 1-4 score always looks more horrible than it is - after all it's "only" 1 break. He left it to the last minute to get the kitkat but gave himself a good workout without being overtaxed. He said in the post match interview that the last thing to come back to him after a break is the movement. Not so much not being able to move but being able to get to a shot and time it so as to do something useful with it. He gave the example of that passing shot in the tiebreaker as evidence that he's starting to get it right again, whereas he'd missed quite a few earlier on.

Ernie next *gulp*.
