Ouch! Tough loss for Fleming/Marray ... but a good win for Dom!

That'd be Alex Ward; James Ward is in Vancouver.

Thanks for the welcome cazza.

I doubt I'll make it to the tournament this week but I am managing to keep up with it despite being at work. Sam Murray is looking good against Date-Krumm right now!

Unfortunately Kimiko proved too much for Sam Murray with a 3-6 7-5 6-7(4) win.

However, Jo Konta has reached the Semi-Final ... where she'll play 5th seed Kurumi Nara WR110.
Konta beat Nara in Qualifying at the USO last year and again at Edgbaston this year.
Go Jo!!!
:cheer:

AND EVO!!
Great win for Dan Evans. 6-4, 6-2 over Olivier Rochus. @Evo151216 (https://twitter.com/Evo151216) into the Vancouver semifinals.
Unfortunately, he has to play that later today and is up against Bobby Reynolds.
Fingers crossed ...

As a result of their exploits this week both Dan and Jo (currently the British #3's respectively) will make strides up the rankings on Monday.
Jo will rise to around the 120's and almost certainly be seeded in the USO Qualifying.
Dan is into the top 200 on the mens side; exactly where will depend on the Final today.

From Steven on BT.net:

It's very hard to check stats that cross ATP/WTA boundaries, but I would venture a guess that this is the first time this century that Brits have made men's and women's singles finals at the same Challenger-level event, certainly outside the UK - though someone with a better memory than mine might be able to correct me on that!

Dan is the first Brit other than James (Ward) to reach a Challenger singles final since Boggo in Kolding in October 2009.
... and of course since Andy Murray who won a couple of Challenger events too (Aptos & Binghamton 2005)
;)

OOP (http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/254/op.pdf) for the Vancouver Challenger:-

Johanna Konta GBR v (7) Sharon Fichman CAN, starts around 1.30pm after the doubles final.
Dan Evans GBR v (2) Vasek Pospisil CAN, to follow.

8hr time difference so probably 9.30pm onwards in the UK and there'll be a livestream!

Nice to see the BBC keeping up with British progress ...

Dan Evans & Johanna Konta reach finals of the Vancouver Open

British number three players Dan Evans and Johanna Konta are through to the singles finals at the Vancouver Open.

Rain delays at the second-tier Pro Circuit event meant the quarter-finals and semi-finals had to be played back-to-back on Saturday.

Konta defeated Marina Zanevska of Ukraine 6-1 6-3 and Japan's Kurumi Nama 7-6 6-0.
Both will face Canadian opposition in Sunday's finals, with Evans up against Vasek Pospisil and Konta facing Sharon Fichman.

Konta, the world number 147, is on a run of nine matches unbeaten after winning the title in Winnipeg last week, but the bigger Vancouver tournament would represent her best victory should she win on Sunday.

The same goes for Evans, who is currently ranked 248 but will be close to breaking into the world's top 200 for the first time next week. Evans beat Belgian Olivier Rochus 6-4 6-2 before seeing off American Bobby Reynolds 6-3 6-4 in the semis.

His progress on Saturday was closely followed online by Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, who is in Montreal preparing for the Rogers Cup

Separated out the Van Chally from the rest of the British Tennis thread.

Nice win for Jo Konta, sadly Evo lost but it was a very good week for him against many higher ranked players.
