On to Round 2 and Andy's forthcoming match against Leonardo Mayer.

Murray leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MD56&oId=MC10) by 1-0 with a 3 sets win in R2 at the Valencia Open in 2009.
Andy went on to win the title for the first time.

The Argentinian is currently ranked #81 with a career high of #51 in 2010.
He prefers clay to other surfaces but hasn't had a good time anywhere in 2013 having lost in R1 or R2 at almost every event entered except for Kitzbuhel and Acapulco (l to Nadal) where he reached the QFs and Indian Wells a week later losing to Nadal again in R32.

He has one thing in common with Andy Murray - they were born on the same day!!!
(approx 7000 miles apart)
Andy's 2lbs heavier, 1" taller and has 28 titles to Mayer's 0.
:p

The match is likely to be played on Friday 30th August - time tbc!!!
(schedulers and rain permitting ...)

Andy is 3rd on Armstrong Court tomorrow - so approx 3/4pm local, 8/9pm UK time.
Much better ...

30-08-2013, 12:57
So the reigning champion gets the rawest of deals and shoddiest of treatment with his first round scheduling and now he's shoved out onto his least favourite court whilst Nadal, Federer & Djokovic remain on Ashe. It's easy to say Andy shouldn't let the scheduling affect him but it's clear from this quote that he's not happy with the situation, "Anyone that knows sport knows that playing seven matches over 13 days is harder than playing seven matches over 15 days".

cazza99
30-08-2013, 13:04
At least Andy is playing earlier. Andy does not like playing on the court much though.

Sallydaisy

Berdych has just started v Kudla and it's 1 game all in the first set.
Going to be a couple of hours I should think so Andy probably won't be on court until
nearer 20.45 our time (15.45pm in NYC).

Sallydaisy
30-08-2013, 18:33
OK, so Tomas is in muppet mode tonight. He was up 5-1, but now it's 6-5.
Credit to Kudla but Berdy's hitting quite a few errors.
This could go to 4 or 5 sets folks if Berdy doesn't buck up!!!

Jan
30-08-2013, 18:35
oh for goodness sake - I thought Berdy was breezing through. Come on one of you, please win!!

Don't forget livescorehunter time is European time, so UK has to take an hour off that. Mind you the way the Berdy match is going it might well be 10pm anyway!

Andy knows full well that 'followed by' on an OOP means the match could be on anytime!!!
It's the same for all the players.
;)
So, it's not about the livestream peeps dictating to Andy; they're just doing as we do (on this thread and in FTM deadlines) and editing his estimated time of play as the prior match unfolds. Andy and his team will be keeping an eye on how the Berdych match progresses and take a view as to when he eats/warms up etc.

Kudla must be playing very well to keep Berdy at bay like this.
A 2nd tie-breaker and Tomas has only just got his nose in front in this set.

If he can win in 3 I'm revising my ETA for Andy to 9.45pm ... if it goes to 4 it'll be 10.30 and if it goes to 5 sets we'll be waiting another 2 hrs!!!

Listened to 5Live whilst watching the match. I'm not impressed with Dom Inglot who's clearly a graduate of the "Bouncy Lloyd School of Commentating". All the cliches about Andy's body language were present including a statement that it's the worst he's seen since Andy worked with Ivan Lendl and he believes it may have prevented him winning a 3rd slam. Martina Navratilova the other night was brilliant. Full of empathy for the players and understanding of what they're doing. You'd hope being a tennis player Inglot would have the same insight but it's a narrative which doesn't get challenged.

Yay. Glad to get up to find Andy won! I never doubted and as I went to bed at the end of the second set so was completely oblivious to the third set thank goodness!!!

You and me both. I decided that there was no way Andy was going to lose 3 sets so succumbed to sleep after a long day with a lively 7-year old. Bit surprised to see a set lost but a win is a win and he looked pretty comfortable to me once the early stages were over.
Let's hope the authorities now decide that the defending champion deserves the main court

I settled down to watch my first USO match this year but I was so tired after my long drive home that I fell asleep at 2-2 in the first. I woke up briefly and saw that Andy had won the first set, and thought it was the beginning of the second, but no, it was the end of the second. The next time I woke up they were shaking hands so I thought one of them must have retired - I didn't realise I'd been asleep for so long! Hopefully I will be able to stay awake for his next match.

Well done Andy. :swingin:

Good match with some great tennis played by both players.

Stayed up to watch it - relieved he got the win. All praise to Mayer who did play some lights out tennis but still couldn't get past the wall that was Andy (who played far from lights out tennis!).
