I go every year with my friend and my partner. Usually just 4 days but last year we had all of the round robin and then won tickets for the evening semi final and the final in the crystal maze type competition in the fanzone! It does actually happen. As I imagine that we have now had all our luck winning anything to last forever this year we got tickets for everyday including the semis and final in the presales. I'm excited. Though saddened as I doubt ferrer will get enough points to make it there again and I always love seeing him

I imagine Federer might but, unfortunately, not Ferrer.

JerryD

Yes I think there is time for federer to turn it around but it seems unlikely with ferrer he's been plagued with injuries and I don't think his game style ages well

Great to do it but I normally only do one session per day as can be boring between sessions.

Last year I was saving to get a car so I saved money not buying one this year. It is expensive but I'm not a big spender on anything much other than tennis and it won't be on for many more years in London. Though me and my friend have said that the year after it leaves London we'll be so rich from not going we will be able to go to the Aussie open!

WimbledonWestie

JerryD
03-08-2016, 20:25
He said he wasn't 100% and it wasn't ideal but it didn't feel worse after 6 hours of practice so he was going to see how it goes. I guess playing with any injury is always a risk though.

What site do you use to buy tickets?
You can buy them off the world tour finals website there is a link there that takes you to the page. If you are an LTA member log on there first then you will get a discount code

JerryD
04-08-2016, 16:20
I've never had a problem getting any days so thought it just worked like the normal site. The access code gives you a 10% discount, which is handy if you want a couple of days

JerryD
04-08-2016, 16:21
The £25 annual LTA fee quickly pays for itself in these discounts for me. I spend too much on tennis tickets, clearly.

Depending what happens with DC, I may end up selling my semis tickets again like last year! I just can't afford to do everything sadly. Cursed mortgage and cursed government for not giving us poor nurses a pay rise in goodness knows how many years! (I've lost count!)

themass15
05-08-2016, 09:22
Got to do both. S.. the expense.

JerryD
05-08-2016, 09:58
What we did last year was scaled back Christmas lol. Me and the other half got each other Davis cup tickets for Christmas. We didn't go out over Christmas period or for new year. We didn't have a Christmas party or do our Christmas cinema trip or theatre one. And we drove to Ghent and used booking.com to keep the costs down. When we go to the wtf we stay in barking and tube it in, it is insanely cheap especially when you book it April. Normally about £35 a night! A quiet Christmas watching movies and wearing pjs was actually nice. So this year with mortgage and bills etc if we make the final we'll be doing the hermit Christmas again. Who needs parties, presents and night out in Liverpool when you can have a Christmas tree and tennis. Lol

Caro
05-08-2016, 14:02
Great idea JerryD .... except my husband doesn't like tennis or any sport for that matter so I do all my tennis trips with a friend. Means it's me spending all the money and he spends very little on himself really so I feel dead guilty. He always says he doesn't mind and I earn my own money but we're a team so it feels a bit much sometimes. It was fine when DC was cheap and we didn't have a big mortgage!

WimbledonWestie
05-08-2016, 14:37
The friends I was away with during the DC quarters think I'm mad- one enjoys watching tennis on tv but would never pay out a fraction of what I spend on tickets for tennis. The other has zero interest in sport. So they were highly entertained/ horrified by my endless wifi searches to follow the scores from Serbia and my telling them that it was vital I knew the result as it would impact on my holiday spending- no splurges if we won as I needed to budget for DC. Which benefitted them anyway as it meant they could use some of my luggage allowance.

JerryD
05-08-2016, 15:27
I can't deny that I'm lucky I'm that way Caro - he's not as big a fan as me, so sometimes like with the world tour finals he only does a few days and then spends the saving on his other hobbies, where as I do as many as I can afford, even if it restricts other things, but he is a big enough fan that he's happy to do most of it. He loves DC more than the general events. So we always do that, queens at the world tour finals together. This year's Wimbledon was a huge success for me and my friend Liv in the queue (who always comes to all the tennis Kev or no Kev), so he's coming to that next year. If he wasn't as big a fan we'd go to a lot less tennis. He hasn't dragged me to the rugby yet which I'm grateful for lol luckily moving from the south coast to Liverpool means I find the house prices here insanely cheap. Being from St. Helens my partner thinks it's expensive lol

Tickets are expensive £150 for 2 full price sessions a day + hotel + train, Queens and Wimbledon as well, not cheap to follow these days. I must admit the seats were non existent but I liked the price in Serbia!

Caro

Going to the tennis in the London area is expensive, but whilst Andy is around, it needs to be done. Need? No, some people just can't do it! I do as much as I can which is quite a lot really and I am grateful to be able to do it. Cant be greedy, I already spend a LOT more than my husband, mostly on tennis!

JerryD
06-08-2016, 18:39
It can be cheaper if you buy a full price ticket rather than two seasons and get your LTA discount. But it's expensive. I'm lucky my other half is happy to go instead of Christmas or holidays. But many don't have that option. Last year I was lucky enough to win tickets for the semi and the final, I didn't have any for those days because I couldn't afford them. We stayed in a service station hotel that night to save money as we hadn't booked anywhere and didn't expect to be going to the semis. Then drove back in the next day. The world tour finals is a great event but it's expensive. especially with food and hotels and travel

It's the same in the private sector! We actually got 3 per cent this year but after so many years with zero it doesn't make it up. We probably wouldn't have got anything again if it were not for so many employees leaving because the pay is rubbish.

Also shouldn't wish what is left of the Summer away. I am off to Italy for 4 nights on Thursday, then a friend in Germany later in the month, ten days in Lanzarote in September and then a week in Las Palmas before the WTF starts. Don't have pets to worry about. Just a very elderly mother.

14 weeks! Is that all! No idea where this year is going. My brother will be starting uni next month, so once he's found out his timetable, we are crossing our fingers that we will be able to FINALLY get some WTF tickets booked :boogie:

Although if we are going, I'm going to invest in a 4 wheel suit case! After the last few trips down there lugging a 2 wheel behind me through the hot tube stations, picking it up for escalators and getting it stuck in the barriers...I said never again

Stan guarantees his place in London, wonder who the other 5 will be.

JerryD
12-09-2016, 12:40
My guess would be raonic, nishikori and nadal. But I'm not sure about theim, he's played a lot of tennis and has injuries, same as monfils. Berdych's points over the next few months will depend on how long recovery for his appendicitis takes. Having had a serious infection when I had mine out, I'm not a good judge. If his went that way he might not make it back to playing for the rest of season. These guys are hugely fit though and it sounds like it was caught early enough. I'm just hoping whoever it is, it isn't cilic or isner. They are two of my least favourite players to watch

JimmyG
12-09-2016, 13:35
In the ATP race rankings Monfils(6th) and Thiem(7th) are quite a bit ahead of Berdych(9th), Cilic(10th) and the rest so there is a good chance both of them will qualify

Snap, but still not overly keen on Raonic, although he will deserve his place if he makes it.

JerryD
12-09-2016, 14:39
Yeah hopefully they can both stay injury free for the the next month. Theim said he had played too much tennis so was going to be looking at his schedule. They do have a bunch of points on the others but probably not enough if they don't play much for the next 6 weeks and others do. I don't think berdych will make it, so many points behind and an op to recover from. But I've seen him at the WTF a number of times a change would be good :)

Do any of StubHub/Viagogo/Ticketmaster etc. have a ticket collection point in or near The O2 during the event?
Might do a few days on a last-minute basis.

JerryD
14-09-2016, 15:24
Yes they do. Tickets purchased from viagogo or seatwave can be picked up from their offices minutes from the arena. My partner was suddenly able to make an evening tie last year at the last minute. He got the tickets at the start of Jamiesdoy les (sadly the match they lost) and got there just in time to see it go south :( and all of the singles. He was a couple of rows from the front and they were really cheap!

No it's both and when it's last minute you can pick them up from these offices. That's what Kev D did last year, (see my earlier post), he picked up normal tickets on the day. Depends on the timing and the seller. You will see the offices on your way towards the o2 by the restaurants.

It definitely is. Kev D is doing the same again this year, it's hard for him to know what time he can get there when he drives down after work so he gets a couple (weekend ones) in advance and then if he can make it down in the week we'll have another look. Especially when for some sessions in advance you only have level 4 seats available. Although I'd imagine that it's not possible even on the day of, to get tickets for the final. Last year we won two tickets for the semi (Roger v Stan) and even minutes before the match began that one hadn't gone down in price. So yellowlivi and I watched from the second row and KevD watched on the big screen in the fan zone lol

Who knows lol could be either! I know Andy usually plays the Sunday afternoon but think it was Monday last year as he had been doing lots of practice on clay for DC.

We picked the wrong day last year but ended up buying tickets for the Andy v Ferrer match at the last minute.

Can't afford to do that again this year so I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed he plays the Sunday afternoon :)

I could be wrong but a number of times in the past we've seen him Sunday, Tuesday. I've always been luckily with my guesses. Last year we were able to go to all the round robin sessions, so no guess work involved. This year we binned off a trip to Iceland and cut the length of our summer holiday down to go to every day, including semis and finals. As next year I'll only be able to do two RR days, I'm hoping this is the year Andy wins it lol :)

You are right about Sunday afternoons, seen him a few times on those, but i think that was before he was no2 and in a different group to the no1? is there any convention that put the no1's group on Sunday or is it plain chance or even tv scheduling?

Will be counting down the weeks to this event now that DC & AM live are over! We have a few tourneys to watch on tv b4 this but nothing beats being there live. Tennis & Andy are seriously addictive! Im there friday evening session & both semis so will look forward to seeing a few of ya there.

Myself and yellowlivi are there all week, Kev D is with us on the first Sunday and thurs - second Sunday. Hope to see you there!! I can't wait now. It will also help with the withdrawal from not ending able to get to Canada next year!

I had another one of those weird dreams, last night, and it was a bit grisly. I dreamt we were all sitting in the stadium, when Djokovic walked onto the court pulling the number one (in a digit) over his shoulder and was being whipped by Becker. For some reason, there were two Andy Murrays. The first one stood on a platform and Djokovic knelt before him. Then, Andy took a sword and cut Novak's head off and gave it to Lendl, who was standing beside him. Novak's head then turned into the number one figure and Lendl then passed it on to the other Andy Murray, who was wearing the Wimbledon crown and the gold medal. We heard Lendl say "behold, the new world number one".

When will we know when Andy is playing and whether afternoon or evening sessions?

The draw and which players play on what day isn't announced until a few days before the tournament starts. Who will play which session (often players play both) is usually announced 1 or 2 days before hand. So for example though on the first Sunday you will know which four singles players will be in action on the following Friday you won't know the order of play.

 the dream story had me laughing however I do feel that Andy cutting off Novak's head to get to number 1 might actually cause me to go off him.

Regarding when Andy playing, the first year that I went I spent a lot on a viagogo ticket once I knew when Andy was playing. It all worked out fine but ever more, I've not bothered to wait - I get two full days to cover all the players. Now I know I will see him and Jamie and as a bonus, I get to see everyone else as well. It doesn't work out much different in cost compared to waiting for the schedule to be announced and the Andy match prices rocketing. I will be there all day on the first Sunday and also the Wednesday. It's actually really enjoyable to see all the top quality tennis, be a neutral and not be cheering and shouting for either of them.

I'm tempted to get more tickets! Would love to see the final if Andy was in it but don't want to fork out to see Novak vs Someone Boring, so I've not gone for a final ticket as yet.... which sort of contradicts what I've just said of course!

We used to do the two alternate day thing, I always wanted to make sure I saw everyone. In the whole time I've been going, there has been very few matches that I haven't enjoyed. I generally manage to find a side to shout for.

Having said that last year when I went for 6 days for the first time there matches I didn't enjoy and couldn't get into, which is really unusual for me. A couple were Nishikori matches. In the past I've sat there through a cilic match thinking it's the most bored I've ever been at a live tennis event. Personally I'm glad that it's unlikely cilic will make it.

Crossing my fingers for Goffin to run ahead, win lots and at least make alternate. Unlikely from 11th but hey, who wishes for things that are likely to happen ? ;)

Couldn't agree more. Most boring match at the 02 was Cilic v Berdych and so many empty seats. The guy next to me in the front row told me he couldn't sell a ticket even at £30!

It's not all day then though. Just for a number hours. Discovered this last year when other half was only coming to meet us for dinner but didn't go to the tennis. We had to go to the office and show the receipt from the meal to sort the parking. So they did check. I pre book online.

Certainly the World Tour Finals has been great event to go to and good for the doubles players as well as the singles stars (though a few occasions when round robin matches didn't live to billing) A few times I went to semis/final but more often was at round robin matches so I could see everyone (once missed Andy when he didn't qualify for latter stages but certainly still enjoyed it. However alas don't think I'll be making this time (haven't been for a few years now)

The race will be on hold a little for some players now. Nishikori has qualified despite his absence this week because of some of the loses. When theim pulled out to rest there was room for some of the other players to make a run for his spot. Cilic went out yesterday so his bid was already on hold but today both nadal and berdy have gone out putting their bids on hold too. Monfils is currently in the top 8 in the race so he could qualify this week. Goffin is also still in action so he could move higher into an alternate slot.

RosieBear

I always love this event but extra excited this year, as so many of my real faves are on the brink of making it. Love Kei, who is now safely qualified, but also massive fan of Goff, Monf and Domi 'baby Stan' Thiem - would be made up for any/all those guys to make it. I love Andy to bits, but he's not the be and end all of the whole sport for me (nor would he expect to be!), so I love this event whereby I can get any ticket for any session knowing I'm going to see two immensely brilliantly players - we all have our particular faves but if they are there, and have qualified, that's enough for me, they deserve their spot and I'm happy to watch whoever! So lucky to have this event in the UK - hope it stays permanently.

I am really hoping to see monfil there this year :) it nice to have a change in the line up. In my head Goffin is already a definite alternate lol. I'm glad kei and Dom were able to take time off this week to recover without it changing their chances. The one downside to the WTF is that sometimes players can turn up burnt out after the long year and fight to get there. I'm glad they are taking the time now t avoid that. I really hope nadal is able to qualify. What days are you there RB? (Sorry if you have already said lol)

I know at the moment it is only agreed until 2018 i think that includes the one in 2018 but I'm not certain. I know it's fair for other tennis fans if it moves and I'll be better off financially but I'm going to really miss it.

It has been there since 2009. That year i was working in London and got to both Sundays and Mon - Thurs evenings. I remember in the first tie there, Andy beat DelPo in three sets, then Federer Won against Verdasco. Also remember seeing Nestor/Zimmo losing can't remember who to. Tuesday I saw Andy v Roger, I was sat in the 2nd row right behind Roger's mum and dad. Andy won the first set but then Roger came through winning in 3. Next day was a shock Davydenko (remember him?) beat Rafa. Thursday Andy played in the afternoon and won so I got to see DelPo beat Roger in three, leaving them and Andy all with two wins, everyone knew Roger had qualified but had Andy, nobody knew and went home uncertain. Later on heard Andy had been eliminated by 1 game and that if Roger had won an extra game in the final set Andy would have been through, can anyone remember anything like it?
Went home Friday rather unhappy but traveled back Sunday for the final which was a real surprise package No Federer (1) no Nadal no Djok no Andy, it was Davydenko who beat DelPotro to win an unlikely victory. Think the Bryans won the Doubles.
Been to many more matches since then, great to have it in the UK for so long!

I used to go every day for the first 3 or 4 years but I actually HATE the O2 as a venue, can't stand the North Greenwich peninsula (or whatever the whole Godforsaken windswept area is called) and really don't like all the razzmatazz. I remember one year coming out at the end of the evening and it was snowing and I thought to myself "WHAT am I doing here?". I am going this year on the first Sunday but only because we've been invited to a Corporate Box :wino:

Think people watching that match on tv understood a bit more about what was going on than people there, but everyone knew Fed had to win a set to qualify and that Andy really should have won in 2 earlier to be sure, because it was possible to manipulate the result so that both qualified. If the organisers were stumped, doubt if Roger knew exactly what, he was just happy to qualify but then got ko'd in the sf.

I don't have an AMFF badge but I will look out for those who are wearing them. I am in the lower tier for all my sessions in Block 106 and 107. Quite far back for the first semi on the Friday but otherwise most of my seats are in 1st/2nd rows. In about the 7th with my partner for the first Sunday afternoon session.

Please also note that no food or drink is allowed into the arena, with the exception of food for babies, for specific medical needs or religious reasons

Lynne and I would have to tell them that our religion is the Cheese ham and tomato sandwich with lots of salad cream, and a bag of crisps every four hours at least.
Pentecostal.
You reckon it would work?

Hospitality/sponsors - it certainly looks that way - also happened at Ghent. I saw quite a few empty corporate boxes on the beeb afternoon coverage yesterday. The website seems to be offering these to the general public as 'deck seats' (I don't recall seeing that before) - you get the bar stool but without the bar unfortunately. I'm off there tomorrow (Thurs) evening block 107 near the front.

Andy has practiced and signed on the main court up to 15 mins before the doubles both days so far. It is pretty hot especially if you are jumping up and down. The first two days I walked in past the external bag checks in crowds but they also check bags again going in and was keys wallets phones into an airport like tray and machine. Queues have been variable someone moaned on first day took them and hour and missed a set of doubles. In the practice before the doubles a lot of people bluff their way in and even watch the doubles in other peoples seats, we had to turf some out of ours on sunday.

Thanks Roy. Hoping I can get there early enough to take a look at the practice courts. Train gets into Euston at 12.30 and just dropping hubby and bag off at Ibis Canary Wharf then straight onto the arena. Going to keep bag contents to a minimum to try to speed up security.

We were thinking Andy would play in the afternoon because kei hadn't had an evening match yet. Friday would be his only opportunity. We thought the same about djoko tomorrow because theim hadn't played an evening one. Also I guess Murray will play the second semi when he gets through at the top of his group, so playing Friday afternoon gives him more rest.

My advice is: yes it seems hot. I have been near the court so can't comment on upper level. Layers I reckon is the way to go. Outside in the walkways to the restaurant areas, it is not hot. Security is a bag search at the entrance to the building - where you can pass with food and drink. There is a second check on way into the actual arena where no food or drink is allowed. However, I have smuggled in snacks - fruit/chocolate bars in pockets of bags as the check is not so thorough. If you take in an empty water bottle, you can have it filled once inside by asking at the bars. There are plenty of places to eat at the arena although queues can be long at times. Queues at certain times at security are long but it has never taken me much time as there are lots of staff. It is all well organised I would say.
