Is looking good :D
It certainly does! In addition to Dan's great win last night, Lloyd Glasspool and Bryden had good wins at Binghampton against seeds and Naomi also won in Washington.

Lloyd is thro' to Quarters in Lexington after a fairly comfortable straight sets win. Well done him! I also see from the draw list that Wardy retired from his match v Lloyd due to a sinus infection. Poor James, life is tough for him at the moment.

Wardy is due to play a challenger next week in Granby - tough field, but he's entered so hopefully he's feeling better and can get somewhere

It's been a great tournament for British players so far with both Dan and Kyle making big moves up the rankings but still, on Tuesday of the second week, we are down to the Murray brothers carrying the flag for GB once again! What will we do without them?

Sallydaisy
12-09-2016, 10:30
Dan up to a career high #53, Kyle at a career high of #55.
Not far to the top 50 for either of them!

That's interesting.

Why? Is there something I have missed?

Alis
29-11-2016, 15:40
No, I didn't mean that there was anything odd about the choice - just that I probably expected someone older, like Sam Smith perhaps. I'm sure Anne will make a good job of it - after all she has been in the team fairly recently.

patmoren
29-11-2016, 22:29
Also Anne is much more au fait with what has been going on in the current game. The others are out of touch and opinionated

Think Anne is a good choice,a while ago Annabel Croft seemed to think she was in the running.

Well done Maia Lumsden who has just won her first 15k title at Wirral in straights against a very promising 15 year old Polish girl. Maia doesn't play many tourneys at the moment as she is at Uni so this win will push her present ranking in the low 800s to about the 580s a week on Monday. Good luck to Marcus Wiilis who also is playing a final at Shrewsbury this pm. Make it a double for the Brits, Marcus! :cauldron:

Pushed the top seeds all the way to a MTB - so close, and the likely DC doubles opponents ;) gave em a scare there

I can see myself watching him after Andy's retired because as Andy has said, he really is box office, and the quality of tennis just keeps getting better.
Totally. I know he's controversial now, but he's good fun to watch. My fear is that as he grows up he'll lose that freedom and love of life and become another boring tennis player.

Don't forget we'll have Kyle and hopefully Jay to watch when Andy's gone.
Maybe Laura will have got her act together on the women's side too and Katie will be up there.

Jay???? ......... and where does Jo Konta come into this - she's just won in Miami for goodness sake!
Wow, keep your hair on! I'm well aware of how Jo's been doing.

However, the point I was making was that we have younger players coming through who will still be around for a significant time - and in their prime when Andy retires..

Alis
01-04-2017, 20:18

Helen40
02-04-2017, 09:10
No, I meant Jay. He's an up and coming 18 year old. 195 in the race this year.

A lot of us who try and follow the players through (not only when they become big time) have noticed him. He should get at least a QWC if not a WC for Wimby this year depending on how he plays up until then.

Jay who?

It must be Jay Clarke GB Rankings (http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25m/current.htm) though have to admit I'd never heard of him before either.

anor
02-04-2017, 12:42
Jay has been doing really well in the Futures tourneys this year and is the youngest player in British top 25 (currently 11th) but of course has still to be tested in higher level events.

It is Leon's job to be aware of young players developing. Forumites might appreciate postings re young players below challenger level as information not easy to find.

That's nasty and un-necessary; an apology to all is called for.

Helen40
02-04-2017, 23:37
No need for that. Consider yourself warned.
With all due respect - I agree that the word idiots was abit strong, and for that I apologise, but I would also like to point out that it was in response to people who were making fun of me first because of their ignorance. I don't expect everyone to know who the up and coming players are, but I also don't expect to get made fun of if I reference them and these people haven't.
I don't see why I should get 'warned' and they shouldn't because I am reacting t their initial jibes.

Alis
03-04-2017, 02:44
It was certainly not my intention to make fun of you, Helen40, and I apologise if you have taken offence at any of my comments - they were definitely not meant to be offensive. I am more than happy to admit to my ignorance of up and coming players and was merely asking for more information. I don't think that makes me an idiot though!

Teresa
03-04-2017, 07:26
There used to be a brilliant app where you could mark all the British Players and any others you were interested in and it would notify you when any matches involving them were about to start. However it stopped working in the U.K. for some reason.

Thanks to the mods for shifting my posts to the correct location.

P.S. no Alis you are definitely not an idiot. You are one of the truly sensible people on here. Me on the other hand............:-)

For anyone who wants to follow the weekly progress of British tennis players, this is invaluable -

Steven was too busy to keep it up last year but has recently caught up and moved it to a new host. It's an amazing resource for which I, and many journalists, are very appreciative.

She is presently 12th ranked Brit but has had back issues this year and retired from her most recent tourney in South Korea earlier this month. However she won 2 15Ks in Egypt in March.
