My dad is desperate to go to wimbledon this year and wants to queue to get in. Only day I can go is Magic Monday but what time would we need to get there to get a chance to get a groundpass??

Just tried for returns to no avail. I don't want to click any more street signs!..

And sometimes we get to draw round them! Ugh!

Lol! My least favourite is the store front one.

I went on that day 2 years ago, got there at about half 5 and got a grounds pass. :)

My mum and I stayed in a hotel and then got the tube to get there that early. I think about 6am is the time you're looking at to be sure of a grounds pass going from tweets I've seen - I'm not sure how late you can get away with.

Hope you're having a great day Jerry! Glad you got to see Andy win.

We Kept checking back but it didn't update in hours so we left at about 5.30 and headed back to the queue. Had the choice of 1 or 2 when they came with the wristbands but picked 2. Delpo is playing. Lots must have done the same as they had lots of 1 and not many 2s and we were 1097 + in the queue. Also a bunch waiting for Murray tomorrows and even fed on Thursday. Saw Gill this morning. Last day for us. Back to normal life tomorrow . Enjoy the tennis from home or here guys :)

Hey guys. I'm based nearish to Wimbledon tomorrow and Thursday. Thinking to join the queue and just getting a ground pass for a couple of hours. What would you expect it to be like at around 5pm?

I did it last year for the QFs, and the queue was empty, but with it being second round and therefore play on the outdoor courts, I imagine it will be busier.

Won't get to see much, but had a nice couple of hours last time last year and wouldn't mind bringing a mate along as they're interested.

Naomi
04-07-2017, 10:31
Hi! Someone asked the queue Twitter that today (https://twitter.com/ViewFromTheQ/status/882162906296614912) and they said there would be a bit of a wait but not that long. Best to keep checking Twitter on the days you're thinking though as Wimbledon have said it's currently over capacity for today.

saivet
04-07-2017, 10:43
Thanks. Will play it by ear then. If when I finish the queue is fine then will try to get in, if not, then just go out and eat. Turns out I should finish earlier than that though could play in my favour.

Had a wonderful time today with my centre court tickets- the Konta match worth it alone but so special to finally see Andy win at Wimbledon- on previous visits he's been on another court, not paying or lost to dimitrov or rained off v civic. Met Murray Tocks when leaving, sorry to miss Caro and Gill but hope to see Angie Saturday.

Where did you check/found out. The view from the q twitter page only seems to mention people queueing in the morning.

The tweet was from Wimbledon. Sometimes the Q responds to questions about capacity in the day but this year they have been really bad about responding to anything. Vast majority of updates are just a number posted by someone in the Q with a time.

JerryD
06-07-2017, 11:39
A little note about resales for anyone who hasn't done that before (we hadn't either), you can only leave the line for 29 minutes for food/loos not 30 like in the Q.
There is no shelter at all so you may want to bring some. I treated myself to a wimble brolly to hide from the intense heat.
It's mainly sitting on the grass so you might want a picnic blanket. The couple on benches fill very quickly.
It's £10 for a centre resale, but Court 2 is £5. I'm not sure about Court 1
It's cash or card unlike the main ticket turnstiles (and they prefer card)
There is free wifi
Tickets don't start selling until 3pm

Yeah number were given to everyone. Just told to you not written on a card or anything. Then every so often a guy would com a do a sort of register to make sure every number was still there and if they had gone to the loonor something check with those around where they were. Then come back a bit later to make sure they were back.
Oh right OK. When I was there, there was one guy in particular in the queue who sort of took it upon himself to keep an eye on the queue so that was quite handy haha. There was no register though, unless there was someone checking without us realising!

Edit: I just had a look at train prices and they are good aren't they!..

Just home from a wonderful 3 days at Wimby. Spent time with quite a few forummers. Yesterday queued from 3.50am in main queue! Did it mainly to get pole position for resales queue ... then got in wrong holding queue so ended up at 31 and 32 in resales queue! so we were behind people who got to main queue an hour after us! :grrr: The heat was brutal, we queued for over 12 hours in total but we got to see all of Andy and Rafa's matches so we were happy, happy, happy. Would do it all again in a heartbeat ... I want to go back now!!

The first couple of days we just did the outside courts and watched Andy on the hill on Monday. Was hoping for no 2 court on Tuesday to see DelPo but unlike last year 4.45am was not early enough for show courts. Ironically yesterday, when we didn't want them, we were offered both no 1 and no 2 court! We have learnt so much as queue amateurs, have absorbed it all and can't wait to put it into practice next year! May even camp ...

goldfish
06-07-2017, 21:27
Off to join the queue in the morning. Hope to get in (won't arrive till 6.30/7) but will spend most of the day on the hill, maybe a little on the outside courts to stretch the legs. Picnic ready, 2 alarms set.

06-07-2017, 21:27

JerryD
06-07-2017, 23:11
I will Naomi. It would be great if a number of us could get there around the same time and camp together. Murray of course will be on as defending champ. I also now have a lead on showers :)

Naomi
06-07-2017, 23:12
Yeah that would be great! :) Here's hoping. ;) And oh that sounds good! It definitely sounds handy camping with people who've camped before!

JerryD
07-07-2017, 01:34
Infact neither of you have to wait til next year if your are off next Monday as on Saturday we are going back down and camping again for Monday. Then coming home Monday night. Yes we are all mental :) :) we just knew we could fit in as me and Liv are off so why not :)

after failing in the general ballot, reserve ballot, LTA members ballot and even our Tennis Club ballot (of which I'm administrator !), I wasn't holding out much hope of getting anything on TM. I've been 'testing' the website all week and not been successful with either the returns or reserved. I was really hoping to go on Saturday so yesterday was the key day for returns. I logged on and amazingly got a ticket. HOWEVER, about a month ago my computer was hacked and as a precaution I cancelled all my debit and credit cards. I got new ones straight away, but don't carry them with me unless I actually need to, and keep a note of my card details at work, where I was logged on when I got the ticket. BUT, I suddenly realised I hadn't updated the note I keep at work with my new card details, so I was floundering for 5 mins hoping the old cards were still usable, but of course they weren't, so after 4 attempts I got thrown out of TM site, and lost the ticket ! So I'm pinning my hopes on the reserved sale at 9am today. My head is still sore from after I banged it on the wall when I realised my mistake !!

Oh no! Very bad luck. That seem too cruel.

I worrier type so I usually prepare all stuff ready even I probably don't need it but cos I worrier think bad luck stuff happen. So I have my credit card, ticketmaster website password, credit card secure password, address written down, mobile number written down, date I want go written down, etc. Cos ticketmaster tough and if get through and there timer mean pressure and I don't do pressure very well so have all that there my desk so if ask I won't panic cos it there.

Only needed my credit card for 3 digit number at back. Other stuff wasn't asked.

If anyone wants a queue update, BBC Sport have just posted on instagram that there are enough people in the queue to fill Court 1 today and tomorrow.

Jerry - ooh wow! I'm busy Sunday morning but I'm still gonna be bearing that in mind when I watch Andy's match today. :')

That's what you would expect but Djoko may have something to say he's already been on Court No. 1. I was in 4th row on Centre yesterday and we didn't see anyone new come in. That's the Federer effect. Chris Evans sat very close to us; he even put a RF cap on for a short while.

A potential djoko monfils match seems like it would draw the crowds. Maybe fed and djoko will have centre. If that's the case you will easily swap you centre for a court 1. I'm still dreaming that Murray and djoko will be on centre :) :) wait and see I guess

No Monfils so djoko will be on court1 .....or court2? Reckon Rafa v Muller could make centre with Fed if they are brave and put the defending champ on #1

Just been to the first week of Wimbledon. Had a great time but all the queing just to get on Centre court for Andys matches. 12 hours I spent on Wednesday and Friday but managed to get on for both. So incredible on Friday the atmosphere and the way he fought back. It totally saved my Wimbledon as I was starting to feel very disulishioned with it all esp after feeling very unwell in the resale queue on Wednesday. I did get lucky with ticket master for Wednesday on tues morning could see seat numbers and everything but it timed me out I was devastated!!! I did get on thro resales but any one of you who has been up to resales and stood there for 4 or 5 hours obv knows in the hot weather it's unbearable up there no shade. I had to take the day off Wimbledon Thursday I just felt so awful.
While I was recovering Thursday I just felt so angry with the way it is at Wimbledon how much effort it takes for a normal person to get in even. All I want to do is go into Wimbledon sit on Centre and watch tennis not take 12 hours in queing to achieve that. I know it will never change but it's so wrong. More tickets should be available to the public for sure!! I was do sing when I finally got on centre I was soooo tired I was dropping off! So before Andys match on Friday I ate a whole bag of sweets to keep me awake lol!!
Was worth every second of queing that match I love Andy and he restored my faith in Wimbledon totally!!

Does anyone, by any chance, know of an ardent Rafa fan with tickets for Centre who would be prepared to swap?

So before Andys match on Friday I ate a whole bag of sweets to keep me awake lol!!
Was worth every second of queing that match I love Andy and he restored my faith in Wimbledon totally!!

Sorry to hear about all your queuing tribulations and hope you are feeling better. I'm not surprised you felt unwell on Wed, it was a killer!

I'm not sure how the AELTC could make more tickets available to the public. On Centre there are roughly 2500 Debenture seats, probably 500 for members (the block immediately to the right of the Royal Box and 3 or 4 rows behind] and maybe another 500 or so for players' family and friends, visiting tennis federations etc. So that leaves at a conservative estimate at least 11000 for the public through ballots and queuing. Would you advocate more online sales? That's a nightmare for those with dodgy broadband and those not as computer savvy and would require ID checks like at Roland Garros. Unfortunately it's become a victim of its own success - I haven't queued for 15 years but it used to be much easier. I know I'm extremely fortunate to have Debentures and do get annoyed when people I have sold to don't turn up for all the matches, but I've come to realise that for many who are there for one day only it's not just watching the tennis, it's the whole experience of walking around the beautiful grounds, shopping, having afternoon tea etc - that's why there are empty seats.

It's good to hear that a few people who have tried ticketmaster have been successful, including people who have never had any luck before. I can't go again until the semis when tickets will be more sought after but I'll still give it a go. I had given up after so many years of trying without success but if you don't try you don't get ....

It would be great if a number of us could get there around the same time and camp together. Murray of course will be on as defending champ. I also now have a lead on showers :)
Gill and I are definitely thinking about doing it next year. We also now have a shower option with our B&B lady from this year. It's so much more fun in the queue when there's a group of us.

It is a shame that so many people don't get tickets but the BBC coverage is so good, better than any other Slam, that with a large screen TV it is almost like being there. You haven't someone tall sitting in front of you either and get close looks at the line calls. Also with Wimbledon there are not long gaps between the matches and you can get food and drink without missing anything. Positive thoughts!! I have been lucky recently but went for 40years+ with nothing at all.

Know exactly what you mean MR, we were in the resale queue too on Friday and got tickets for CC and got on for Andy's match, so worth the wait and great to see him fight through a really tough opponent, will be back there on Monday....

There are showers in the yacht club too. £5 for a shower open at 5am but if you want hot water get there before 6.30. People gradually use it up. They close at 8am. It's really not bad at all. Just £5 for your large bag/tent in left luggage too. I love the queue you meet great people and there's a nice feeling plus you get great tickets :)

I'm so interested to hear the stories of people's queuing and ticket experiences. I haven't been and try to rationalize with the sleeping in my own bed, no queues for toilet philosophy but would in truth really love to be there on Centre at the Andy matches . It seems so unfair that all the fans who attend so many of the other tournaments and watch every match on TV are deprived the best in their own backyard or have to queue in the hot sun for 12 hours etc whilst the Corporate mob swan up.Because my working hours have coincided with ticket internet sales, that hasn't been an option either this year.

As I said in an earlier post the number of Debenture seats is only 2500. Many of these are sold to actual tennis fans who have made the trip of a lifetime to be there - I know because in my 14 years of going every day I've met a lot of them. Yes there are Corporate people, but these are less and less. I estimate that approx 11000 seats go to the public, in various ballots and internet sales. Centre Court only seats 15000 and so there will never be enough seats for everyone who wants to go. And let's not forget it's the Debenture sales that help fund the roof :)

For those who want to see Andy, I can't see the point of resales today as they don't start selling till 3pm ... it will be overrun with Fed fans too. Might be worth it for those who fancy no 1 court.

Can't believe you only started queuing yesterday at 12.30 themass and got in at 3.30! How is that possible for 50 people to get tickets in the first half hour?! With the weather no one would have wanted court 1 or 2. Amazing! Well done. Nope. most were shouting for Raffa and one for muller or g-man as he called him. From the laughing they did when there was no more play after Raffa I'm guessing not djoko fans at all. Just yobs who had too much to drink I think. They were trying on different accents but with the exception of one they were English.

Bit like the British young men who sat in front of me last Friday. They weren't in any way obnoxious, but they were supporting Fabio - not in a way that they were really supporting him - just calling for Andy's opponent. Guess they can't wait for Andy to lose so they can feel superior again and have a few digs, but really it is only hard feelings because he is not who they want to be supporting - for obvious reasons.

I've nearly always heard things said against Andy when I have seen him play live - not at Davis Cup at Wimbledon - but I even picked up on it a bit at DC at Queens - sitting with the crowd not as part of organised group.

Packing my bags this morning for our weekend trip to the Men's Final. Hubby is coming to the tennis with me and our daughters coming for the trip and to do some sightseeing while we're at the tennis. Travelling down by train tomorrow morning, off to a Star Wars exhibition at the O2 on Saturday afternoon (for the 3 Star Wars geeks in the family - but I'll be reminiscing about seeing Andy win the WTF there last year). Daughters going to see Mamma Mia on Saturday night, while we dine in Covent Garden. Then it's the big day, still slightly gutted Andy won't be in it, but will still enjoy - a Wimbledon Final is special afterall. Treated ourselves to one the posh picnics you can book at the grounds, so hoping to sit on the hill to eat that then have a leisurely stroll around the grounds. Hubby has never done Wimby before so he is looking forward to seeing it all. I can't wait for that moment where you go up the steps and come out into the Centre Court stand - the first sight of that court in real life always gives me goosebumps and a lump in my throat
We have fab seats, row H in block 114, so will be on the baseline at the Royal Box end, not too far from the player's box. Look out for us - very good chance of screen-time where we are sitting. Just hope it is a good match and not just a Fed procession, though think he will win it. Really hoping we get some British interest in the Mixed Final - would be great if Jamie could get us a Murray victory but if not a win for Hev would be nice too. Hoping they both win their SF today to give us a guaranteed Brit winner
Off to pack my bags so I can watch the SFs this afternoon

The rule states a 2 man tent I'm afraid, although this year there were only a handful of them. Most seemed to be 4 man and there were even a lot of tall 6-8 men ones with bedrooms etc. Others had inflatable mattresses and battery pumps, full stoves. Most people were doing a more luxury version of camping than we were.
