Lovely news. I saw that Marcus tweeted the Daily Fail again though asking if they could introduce him to the lovely dental nurse they mentioned in the article as she looked gorgeous!!! His fiancee is a dentist..... but of course the Mail described her during Wimbledon as a dental nurse and will just have copied bits of the previous article....

Also from his local paper.

I love that he's promoting his club while he's not playing. He's down as an alternate for a challenger in Turkey in a few weeks, so looks like he is making the most of his opportunity :-)

From the article ...
;)

"We have wondered if we should call the baby Roger or something Wimbledon related.
But we thought no, we'll stick to a normal name."

I suspect there's been the usual journalistic tweaking done to whatever was said.

He is directly quoted as saying it was conceived after Berankis match. Too much information.

Think he is eking out his 15 minutes of fame. Don't like it much.

Ah, I think he is quite cute, and fairly harmless. At least it wasn't a cupboard under the stairs. Let him have his moments. We hear very little about him relatively speaking.

Josephine

Yes I am probably being a bit harsh. Just think the hype was so Wimbledon typical. Plucky Brit in David and Goliath match. But now we have some really good British players to hype so the OTT nature of the hoopla around someone who is not even on the tour, and probably never will be, got on my nerves a bit.

roytennisfan
07-09-2016, 13:19
Let's give the guy some credit, achieving the second round at wimbledon for #772 without any wildcard was against all odds. Even getting in the qualification for the qualifiers was a stroke of luck, then he won 7 matches including against not one but two top hundred players and got to appear on centre court ranked#772. It will never happen like that again. The only other guy to win 7 matches was Andy, that's how many most players needed to win to become champion.

Josephine

And to beat the best!! Which he clearly could not do.

And in the past now - he's not even on the Tour.

Helen40

What do you mean by not even on the tour?

He's been injured since then, played World Team tennis for the bank balance and is in qualies for a challenger next week.

Never mind what Andy Murray's done today, Willis has just won the Kuwait Futures in both singles and doubles with German Daniel Altmaier.
Strangely, Willis also beat Daniel Altmaier to win the singles final.
Congratulations!

After a three-set loss in Vienna qualifying, the British 26 year-old came back to the Itf circuit with a title in Kuwait.

Marcus Willis, who had played just three tournaments this year, came back this week in a 10,000$ futures in Meshref (Kuwait). After winning three matches easily, he defeated first seed Perez-Sanz 6-3 6-3 in the semifinals and third seed Daniel Altmaier 6-3 7-6(8) in the final. This is his first singles title since May 2015.

During his nice week, the “Cartman” did not lose a set, dropping his serve only once. Though, he needed an impressive turnaround in the final, where he was 6-3 down in the second set tie-break, before saving four set points and converting his second match point on 9-8. He also won the the doubles tournament with Altmaier, beating De Valk and Joncour 6-1 6-1 in the last round.

Willis will earn 18 atp points and will come back into the top 450 in the singles ranking. He might play another tournament before the end of the year, as he has entered an Itf in Egypt (scheduled in two weeks).

He used his wedding and baby as excuse for not doing more in his tennis career last year. Well, we all know that doesn't need to be the case. He does look a bit out of shape for an athlete and I'm quite glad we won't have the same daft fuss made over him as there was last year!

What is nonsense about it? He and Jay Clarke (who I think will be the next great British player) were given Wild Cards into the Doubles, and unlike some of our other Wild Cards have got, not just beyond Round One, but into R3 knocking out the defending Champions in the process. It's a great story.

Josephine

The fuss last year was ridiculous! He can play well on grass every so often. It doesn't make him a superstar!

I did put the wink - I'm not entirely serious - but in my view the fuss is all a bit of Wimbledon daftness.

Aw, c'mon Josephine you know you love it deep down - Wimbledon isn't Wimbledon without hyping up the underdog Brits - highlights for me were Luke Milligan's "run" to R3 in 1996 and Chris Bailey's unconverted mps against Goran in 1993....oooooh the drama :big grin:.....you never know though the loveable chubster Willbomb and Jay might just repeat Marray and Nielson's heroics - now that would be genuinely brilliant :peace:

Josephine
09-07-2017, 10:47
Of course Marray - whatever happened to him???

Who was the one they went mad for when everyone hated Andy in 2006? Lasted a couple of rounds. Had a very pretty girlfriend too - that always seems to help for some reason....

OK it is Wimbledon madness and sometimes I like it but it was a bit OTT for Willis!
