Bubble Gap Championship 2016
A new year, a new tennis season which means of course a new bubble gap season! Welcome back everyone, hopefully we have a great year ahead filled with exciting races.

Rules of the competition
The competition was created and originally run by Rondun. The aim is to guess the 'bubble gap' at the end of a tournament which is either:

The no. of points between Andy and the player in 9th place in the rankings (if Andy is in the top 8) or
The no. of points between Andy and the player in 8th place (if Andy is outside the top 8).

Note that race rankings are used for this competition not the ATP rankings. These are rankings based on current year results unlike the normal ATP rankings which is based on results from the last 12 months.

With each competition you have to guess what you think the bubble gap will be and the person closest to the correct answer is the winner. Only positive numbers are allowed – there's no need to guess negative values. For example if you think Andy will be 500 points behind the 8th ranked player then your guess is 500, not -500. If Andy ends up 500 points ahead of the 9th ranked player then you still win.

Note that no 2 entrants can guess the same number and you can't change your guess once you've posted it.

Bubble Gap competitions run at all the Slams and Master tournaments, so a total of 13.

Scoring
The scoring used for this competition is the same as the one used in F1 racing. The top 10 entrants will get the following points:

1st

25

2nd

18

3rd

15

4th

12

5th

10

6th

8

7th

6

8th

4

9th

2

10th

1

There is also an additional 10 points given to the person who correctly guesses the exact bubble gap. In the event of a tie, the one who posted first gets higher precedence.

The overall winner of the Bubble Gap Championship will be the player who has the most points at the end of the year. Tiebreaks in the leaderboard are settled by the following:
1st place finishes -> Exact bubble gap guesses -> 2nd place finishes -> 3rd place finishes -> Points earned in slams -> No. tournaments scored

General deadlines
The first bubble gap will be for the Australian Open which starts on the 19th January. Deadline for entries will be just before the 1st match of the tournament. You're free to enter as many of the competitions as you like so join in at any time!

The Bubble Gap Constructor's Championship 2016
The Bubble Gap Constructor’s Championship is also back. Which team will get bragging rights this year? Or will Golden Yorkie Car retain their title?.

The rules for this are straight forward. Find another person to team up with and come up with a fancy name for your team. Enter the BG comps as you normally would. When you earn points in a race not only do you get points for the individual championship but you also earn points for your team. Team with the highest score at the end wins.

When you've formed a team post on this thread. If you wish to keep the team you had from last year or change your team name post on this thread as well.
Note that this is optional – if you only want to play in the individual comp then that is fine.

Best of luck to all who take part and may the best driver (and team) win!:trophy:

Gradually getting the thread back up to date again, charts should be up sometime this weekend.
Apologies but I won't be able to do a BG for Toronto. I've been really busy and combine this with what's happened to the site over the last week and Andy not playing in it I think I'll skip this one and start up again with Cincinnati in mid August.

Thanks to everyone who's taken part so far!

I wanted to test a theory I had about how some forum threads may still be avalible on caching services so I have had a go at a rather long winded method I know, Below is an archived version of last years bubble gap results (you cannot navigate to other pages on these links, they will take you back to the live website, hence page 1, 2 and 3 all have separate links)
Bubble Gap 2016 Results Thread:

Unfortunantly I can only find the first 2 pages of the thread - not page 3

Hay that's brilliant Master Yorkie. :thanks: Are they going to remain on these links or will they disappear?

No idea (probably for a bit - but I would doubt google keeps them forever), this method is a bit hit and miss, for instance I just realised I can't find page 3 of this thread (annoying as that was the most recent one).
I can use this method to find page one of most of the more recent threads, but what use is page 1?

After concentrating on the Olympics and making sure all the GB team got their required supplements of caramel and chocolate - particularly those great Yorkshire brothers the Brownlees - it seems we forgot to have the right attention on an event happening in Cincinnati and a certain Red Bull team have taken full advantage. Well that will just drive the focus for the last 3 events for the year. Socks have been pulled up ready for the US Open. Game on.

The combination of Linda placing in the top 3 and Yorkie not gaining enough points in Shanghai means that Linda can not be caught as we head to Paris. So a premature congratulations to Linda for her emphatic win.

In addition her team has topped the Constructor's Championship too so well done to Red Bull and Helen40 as well.

To the rest of us, 2nd and 3rd place are still up for grabs. ;)

After 12 races, Linda tops the leaderboard with an impressive 43 point buffer to take the 2016 championship. Congratulations Linda! :cheer:

Her commanding lead also helps her team top the Constructor's Championship, so congratulations to team Red Bull, Linda and Helen. :cheer:

Well at least I pipped Master Yorkie but good to see two of the podium spots filled by Yorkies. Well done Linda your form of late has been astounding and easily enough to run away with the title with a race to go and with your team mate take the constructors title.

GL I am sure your time will come again next year so no worries.

Thanks Manaus for your usual work running this as I agree with Linda in this being the best competition we have.
