I'm afraid that with all the time-consuming business of buying and selling houses and moving, I hadn't created a spreadsheet yet for this year's competition, so unless anyone else has a record of all the entries this will have to be abandoned for this year. :crying:

Making use of what Master Yorkie did in the BG thread I was able to find a cached copy of the thread. I think everybody's entries are on it. Problem is I think it's an older copy as there are some bits of missing information since we were allowed to edit our entries until the deadline.

As an incentive for people to do all three of the tie-break points, instead of zero for any missing ones, I think I'll set the default values below! You can edit your entries up until the closing date.
1. 20,000
Andy 15,000
25. 3,000

I found the rules for this thread, you probably know them off by heart, but I thought I would post them anyway - before they disappeared from the cache!
Year End Top 8 Predictions for 2016

OK folks, time to put your thinking caps on!

Can you predict the unpredictable??
Will Djokovic dominate again?
Will a newcomer make it into the big time?
Where will Andy finish the year?

All you have to do (ho! ho! ho!) is:-
Predict the Top 8 players in the order you think they will finish in the ATP rankings as published on the Monday after the World Finals and Davis Cup Final are over, i.e. the year-end rankings
On top of this as a tie breaker you need to predict the total ranking points of the world number 1, world number 25 and our own Andy Murray. (NB If you have Andy as your number 1, you only have one guess at his points total, which will count twice). You don't have to predict who the number 25 is!
The scoring is as follows:-
1 point for each person you correctly guess who ends in the top 8
A 2nd point for that player if you have them positioned 1 place away from where they end up (eg you predict Andy as number 2 and he ends up as either number 1 or number 3 then you score 2 points for Andy) - you will also still score 1 point if the player you predicted in 8th spot ended up 9th despite missing out on the 1 point for that player not being in the top 8
You get the maximum 3 points for each player you predict in the right spot.
The maximum points are 24 for getting all 8 in the top 8 and getting them all in the correct order. Simples ...

If we end with a tie under this main scoring system then it will be the closest person to the correct total tie-break score. In the unlikely event that the tie-break is also tied then it will be the person predicting closest to Andy's ranking points, then the number 1's ranking points and if this has still not broken the tie break it will be a tied competition.

As an example, the perfect prediction for 2015 would have been:-

1. Djokovic (16585)
2. Murray (8945)
3. Federer
4. Wawrinka
5. Nadal
6. Berdych
7. Ferrer
8. Nishikori
25. 1480

However this year's contestants ranged from 7 to 17 points out of a possible 24 which shows how unpredictable tennis is. Go on, have a go!

The deadline for entry is start of the first men's singles match of the Australian Open. Play begins on Monday 18th January in Melbourne so for clarity that's likely to be 00.01 in the UK. Edits are allowed up until the closing time.

Good Luck everyone with your predictions for 2016!!

And another comment that I thought might be useful.

Popularity of the players among the 16 contestants is as follows:

16 Nole
16 Andy
16 Fed
16 Rafa

15 Nishikori
14 Wawrinka
10 Berdych
6 Ferrer
6 Raonic
6 Tsonga
3 Kyrgios
2 Gasquet
1 Dimitrov
1 Goffin

currently at 5 picked in the right position (Djoko, Andy, Stan, Nishi and Rafa) with Raonic a couple of places out of position. Anyone beating 16 points?

Mind you I hope there is still movement to come at least for number 1 and 2!!

jaysee

Despite being Andy's forum, only Genbrit went for him to be year end No 1!! However Yorkie is still just ahead at the moment.

Apologies to anybody who made revised entries which were lost, but here are the current placings based on the above entries. If Raonic withdraws from the O2 and Berdych gets enough points to get into the top 8, that could have a major effect on the final results.

Yes still plenty to play for though I'm most likely to lose points particularly if Rafa or Stan are passed. I hope I don't get extra points for 1 and 2 swapping places.

Apologies for the delay! Been catching up with work in between organising builders...

Here are the final placings. A low-scoring year with both Fed and Rafa outside the top 8 at the end of the year! Everybody lost one point with Rafa dropping to 9th, except Yorkie who lost two points. The other change which affected most people (some positively and some negatively) was Stan dropping from 3rd to 4th

Wow, that's close. :phew:

Congrats to Yorkie & Manaus for tying with me at 10 points :bravo: BUT

How AWESOME is it that the only person who had Andy as #1:trophy: at year end, won due to the tiebreaker. It does pay to have faith. :worship: :big grin:

Of course we all know this is purely luck!!!! Now, why can't I have the same luck with the lottery.

Thanks Jaysee for running this comp. :thanks::thumbup::flowers:

Second in a three way tie - well I think that's the best I've done on this.

Well done Genbrit and keep the faith and hopefully it will continue to pay off.

Well done Manaus but unlucky on the tie breaker so you stayed in third.

Thanks Jaysee for compiling the scores.
