Andy's through to meet his buddy Pico Monaco.
H2H is 3-2 in Andy's favour ... details to come ... but its 6yrs since Juan last beat Andy.
Andy would probably beat Pico on clay this year ...

Well at least we all know, dumb commentator!
Monaco is very changeable. It's hard to know what level he will come out with. But I'm certain Andy will get the win again regardless.
Murray rocks

Good luck Andy x
I'm going for an Andy win.
Best of luck Andy. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Pretty confident on this one .....but need to beware of Argentinians with protected rankings

Monaco is persistent but Andy should be OK if he has got over the doubles defeat. At least he has a day in between poor Delpo has doubles and singles today. That will test his wrist!!
When Novak lost in the third round at Wimbledon, Andy became the favourite to win it. No doubt, the BBC have now made Andy the favourite to win the gold medal. I'm going for a straight sets win for him against Monaco.

As I put on another thread I like Pico but not against Andy, so go Andy!!!!!
Hoping this will be at a reasonable time. Andy looked so in control in the first round. Go Andeeeee!!

Hoping for a comfortable win for our champ. Go Andy!!!:OGwave::GBflag:
Fingers crossed. Andy seems to be struggling a little with the surface - he can't get easy points. Felt he wasn't sharp off the blocks against Troicki even though the score line would say otherwise.
I hope the result in the doubles doesn't throw him off his game
I hope the result in the doubles doesn't throw him off his game
My concern too. He cares sooo much and he's bound to feel he let Jamie down, whether or not it's so.
Pico won Houston on clay in April and reached the QF of the Rome Masters beating Johnson, Anderson & Wawrinka on the way but then withdrew with a hip injury. He's only played 6 matches since then winning 2 in reaching second round of French & Wimbledon.
The Very Best of Luck Andy!!!:thumbup:

Any ideas on timing for this match?
Andy is second on centre after a women's singles which starts at 2.45pm UK.
I don't finish work till 5.30 today so will likely miss this

London Andy went out first round with Jamie I think. Sad - actually really horrible - but no reason he can't go on to the end and.... don't like to say it but ... no reason he'll do badly :olympics:
I have to go out so I'll probably miss this.
All the best Andy! :GBflag:

Well, once the no. 1 seed goes out in anything, everybody normally tends to make the no. 2 seed the favourite to win! And I think the doubles loss was mainly the result of the inspiration the opponents got playing in their home Olympics!

Yes I think that's a good point about the Brazilians playing at home (though they are now out, beaten by Italy!) However, the number1 seed going out has no effect whatsoever on Andy (favourite or otherwise) until the final...he still has to play his way through the draw to get there. He's made a good start and I'm hopeful he will follow that up today with a win. Let's go Andy! You are our favourite always...everytime! :GBflag:
All the very best of luck, Andy :thumbup::thumbup::GBflag::GBflag::olympi cs:
Madison Keys has just won. Andy coming out very soon.
:GBflag:WooHoo! Andy Andy Andy!! :olympics:
Andy has just walked onto the court. A very sparse crowd again.
Good grief. I can't believe the number of empty seats! How is Rio going to pay for the games? Weren't the London games pretty much a sell out? Guess Brazil is poor so folk can't afford time off/tickets.
Not used to seeing Pico in a cap. Looks very different.
Nice roar for Andy.
My nerves are shaking already. Go Mr M. Another brutal, short one please.

Mon Andy! :tennis::cheer::GBflag:
Having to watch it on the BBC website, as usual. Match about to start.
Donskoy and Ferrer gone to a deciding set.
Is it the security that is stopping the crowds getting to these events or have they just not sold the tickets?
The crowd could be revolting, hope so. ;) 1-0

Haha listen to the Brazilians quash the Argies' celebrations.:rolling:
I hope Monaco doesn't do a Troicki and come back.
Hmmm this court really is slow. A couple of Andy's shots were brilliant and should have ended the rally on any normal court but Pico had time to play good shots.
............ and Andy breaks again. This court must be hugely frustrating to play on, it is soooo slow.
JAMES4578
09-08-2016, 16:14
Andy restores the break easily with some great play and will hopefully keep in the ascendancy this time!
One thing I will say is that the slowness of the court produces some scintillating rallies.
Good break of serve from Andy.
4 - 4 in the Donskoy and Ferrer match.
Hearing Simon Reed makes me miss Frew McMillan. ;)
First set to Andy - 6-3 :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
Andy 57% first serves but he's winning 83% points on his 2nd serve.
First set to Andy, while Donskoy saves two match points.

Andy pretty much in control of the set and hopefully continues in a similar vein, come on!
Andy gets an early break in the second - keep it going Champ!
Daveeed's been knocked out by Donskoy! 7-5 in the third.
After hitting each other off the court, Donskoy wins. It now means Konta's about to come on to the court.
Just back from the dog walk. So far, very good.

David not been in best form but still surprise Donsky got the bettter of him here,Andy with a double break and and Monaco just can't come close to matching him now.
Andy has been looking good :) shame about ferrer though :( I was expecting a win from Andy but you can never be certain
Poor old Pico can't get anything right at the moment. Not that I'm complaining :cauldron:
Daveed had 2MPs, beginning of the end?
Paire or Fognini? Should be another, hopefully, easy match for Andy.

That's if they don't murder each other first. ;) You never know what you're going to get with either of them, brilliant or bust.
Andy gets the win :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::GBflag::GBflag: Well done
That last point summed up the match, Andy had an answer to everything Pico threw at him. :boogie::yahoo::boogie:

Totally tremendous from Andy, focused and utterly effcient. He really means business. 2 down 4 to go for one of the greatest achievements ever witnessed in the sport. You can do it, Andy!:GBflag:
Can't express how much I want gold for Andy - to live in an era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic and achieve something none of them have achieved, that no male player has achieved.... would be indescribable. GO ANDY!!!! :GBflag::GBflag::GBflag::superman: #alwaysbelieve

Andy emphatic and in some commanding form though Monaco's resistance didn't last too long, well done!:clap::clap:

What a class act!! Andy is the best!! Gold, gold, gold - here we come!! Fab seeing how popular he is with the foreign fans. And didn't we just know these days would come - we who have loved and understood him since that first Wimbledon when he was a skinny 18 year old. And after th gold, the No 1 spot! Way to go Andeeeeee!!!
Blink and you missed it. Quick work Andy. :olympics:

Pico gave EVERYTHING to the crowd: his racquets (all of them!) and even his shirt! Left the court shirtless (and really angry for the loss).

The only remedy I have found if this happens is to reduce the zoom level which makes the picture smaller but you can then see all of it.
Fantastic, well done Andy. Loved seeing him with the crowd after. He really seems to be enjoying this Olympics, so happy for him. :)
