View Full Version : RIO OLYMPICS - Semis - Andy vs Nishikori Saturday 4.00 pm
Oh lord that's a tough match. I hope Andy gets a better grip of his nerves and tensions. Doesn't over think it. Though kei is a great player on any other day Murray is a better one. But then there is the stress of the Olympics and the gold looking in the background casting a shadow. Crossing my fingers and toes and preparing for high bp lol
All the best Andy Play well and get the win!
6:1 H2H to Mr M.
The one he lost was the WTF in 2014, when he was completely knackered having almost killed himself to get there.
Does anyone have any idea what time it's likely to be?
The Very, Very Best of Luck Andy!!!:thumbup:

The pressure of the gold is on Kei too. Andy dislikes that court and hasn't been at his best but he dislikes losing more ! I believe a better opponent will focus him.. He will find a way
I'm glad Andy is on court first as he should not have the hassle of low sun and shadows on the court.
I wish him all the very best of luck :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
My only concern is that the Beeb seem to have only been showing tennis later on in their schedule, so won't show it. I hope they show Delop/Rafa too as that has the potential to be a great match.

Actually thought court 1 was worse because of all the movement/distraction. Hadn't seen Andy chunter on centre like he did on court 1 yesterday.

I agree with the comments saying that Andy hasn't been at his best in Rio, but personally I don't think it's nerves. Everything, not just the court, is unfamiliar to him - apparently, although the court is very slow the balls are fast, in quite an unusual combination, plus the swirling wind has been devilish. I just think it's taking Andy a little time to fully settle in to a tournament that's completely new. He's found a way each time so far, and I'm confident that he will only get more comfortable and better. Good luck Andy, I know you can do it - looking forward to watching you guarantee yourself a medal later this afternoon (:peace:) - :GBflag::GBflag::GBflag:

The disrespect from the spectators and the attendants who let people in at completely inappropriate times is shocking! I'm not surprised he's chuntering!
Not only am I hoping the BBC will show it, but also hoping for a straight sets win for Andy.
I just watched the Olympic breakfast, and not a mention of Andy in their preview of the day. You'd think they'd add the RBs for us normal folk at the weekend.
I've watched the Olympic roundup every day when they set out the timetable of things to watch that day and I don't think they've mentioned the tennis once!

I don't expect the BEEB to show Andy or tennis anymore.
I agree Rosie, I don't think it's nerves with Andy but I don't know how much it could be conditions as the minute he seems to concentrate to get himself out of a hole he breaks surprisingly well.
Maybe he will show us today by coming out at his best for Kei. I think he will.
I hope e does! :)
I will be catching up after shopping :)

I agree, the red button and internet coverage over all sports has been excellent. I expect Andy will get more of a build up if he gets through to the final.

I've had to resort to watching tennis on tablet via BBC app. I do think its bad not showing any at all on BBC1 or 2 seeing as he is defending champion but there is so much going on its hard to keep up!
Very best of luck Andy!!!
:OGwave: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
They are much more likely to show Andy when it is a medal match, or at least the last half.
There is also a red button option for tennis scheduled from 4.00 pm for Saturday and Sunday.
Ore Oduba has claimed BBC 4 will be showing Andy's match from 4pm (16.00pm). He claimed it was going to be shown on BBC 4, yesterday, but they showed the golf instead. I wouldn't be surprised if I have to watch it yet again on the BBC website as they would rather show something else instead.
The best commentator, so far, is the Australian or New Zealander who did the athletics on the Red Button 1 during the early hours of this morning. He seriously knew what he was talking about and didn't go off and start talking a lot of rubbish (like some other BBC tennis commentators we know).
Maybe I'm very lucky but I have been able to watch every tennis match I have wanted too....either red button or online. And I don't think there is any need to record...it's too complicated not knowing which channel etc...but the iplayer is great! Every match played is on there. I have just re-watched Andy's match against Johnston! Enjoyed it better this time(!) and it's confirmed my belief Andy will come up trumps when he has to today against Kei. I believe....let's go Andy! :GBflag:

I agree with you Pat, I have watched online mostly as I only have the very basic red button 1 (and that only occasionally) so gave up with BBC1 and 4 and once I had sussed how the BBC Sport website worked I have happily watched lots of tennis matches untroubled by channel changes or interruptions for "updates" on other sports. (Sorry, off topic, but I also caught the whole of GB's fantastic team table tennis win over France in the early hours of this morning on ipad) I think the BBC do an excellent job of trying to cater for all fans of a multi sports event like Olympics - and if a commentator annoys me I simply turn the sound down so I don't hear them!
Although Andy has struggled in his last 2 matches he continues to find a way to win as he so often does and I am sure today will be no different - hopefully without the struggle!

Yup, the tennis was rained off at 4.00 pm so they had to show something else instead.
GOOD LUCK to Andy :cheer::cheer:
(Our Olympic coverage here in Canada has been amazing !!! 6 channels of coverage everyday , and 1 devoted to the tennis )

Maybe the fault isn't with Beeb but to providers- if I could get it on virgin but sky / free view viewers couldn't then BBC were clearly showing but- question is who is at fault if it's not available to all. BBC or tv companies? Genuinely curious.
I am feeling sick already. If he gets into the final I promise not to be greedy. I just want him to have a guaranteed medal in his kitbag. It does seem as though these courts don't really suit him. I do wonder as well how much he is missing Kim and Sophia - is this the longest he has been away from them?
So where are we going to find this match today then

Those who are praising the red button obviously have Sky. My one red button channel was not showing anything yesterday, just a black screen. And the BBC website has been so confusing that I have struggled to find the matches I want to watch. Generally I have missed the first set of matches until some kind person has sent me a link. I think it is disgraceful that I, a licence payer, cannot view all the BBC output.

Was everyone else waiting for Ramos to give Andy another time violation after that incredible penultimate point? :grrr:;)
How very odd!
It is Andys match beig repeated on BBC1.
Was everyone else waiting for Ramos to give Andy another time violation after that incredible penultimate point? :grrr:;)
It did cross my mind but, surely, not even Ramos would be that stupid.
:GBflag: :GBflag: Just awesome Andy You can go the whole way now!!! :GBflag: :GBflag:

Amazing Awesome Andy! No problem today. First serve stats brilliant! And the penultimate rally.... best I've seen!! It wasn't the wind or the rain today causing problems, just Ramos. What on earth was the second warning for? I will check on iplayer later to see if I can pick anything up. But, bottom line, he is going to win another medal...how amazing is that! So so happy for him. :olympics::OGwave::yahoo::dance::GBflag:
It was for unsporting behaviour - as he said it was stupid umpiring! I liked the retort by Andy re Ramos wanting to be "the star" and when the commentator said of Ramos "he's been itching to get involved." Also said that a lot of the players think this of Ramos.
Ramos gave Venus Williams a warning for "coaching" at the French Open, arguably the most ridiculous warning ever given her wealth of experience and she is one of the fairest players on tour. She was rightly furious.

May Dep P and Rafa still being going at it at 10pm!
Great imperious win. Just what was needed at this stage. Got back from golf just in time and now had shower in time for the next match while Mr P cooks dinner....spag bol.....one of 2 dishes in his repertoire :big grin:

Andy's match gets shown on BBC 4, Rafa and Juan Martin's match about to be shown on BBC 1.
Well, Usain Bolt was running at the same time! ;)

Fantastic win for Andy. I do think he thrives on being the one not cheered loudly and loved his retort to Carlos who was a bit of a numpty. Guaranteed an Olympic medal now but we hope for and he wants the GOLD. Good luck Andy, we're all rooting for you. You are our CHAMPION!:OGwave::gold::GBflag:

I thought they made a real mess (**** up) last night having the first set of Andy's quarter only available on the net even though it was showing as tennis on my rb guide
I think the BEEB have been great at showing all of the tennis but it's how they are changing channels again that is annoying. I went out shopping this morning and set sky to record channel 472 which had said tennis, then rang home to check and it was showing on 477 :grrr: and it like why?? Now tomorrow night I'm out from 6:30 and will have to hope the channel they state is where the final will stay........but who knows!?
It said 477 on my sky guide well before the tennis started today banskogirl.

I watch BBC on Virgin so get the 7 extra BBC channels. It's quite a game to guess what the BBC will actually be showing when it comes up on screen (for example) Channel 561 - live Basketball, and they are showing Badminton, or 562 = Weightlifting, and you see some-one on a trampoline. I guess that's live sport for you. You never know whether a match will be Murray v Troicki length, or Rafa v Del Potro length

Much better match from Andy. Needs to focus on Delpos' backhand today.
This match wasn't the match I thought it would, it was easier for Andy than I expected. It's still a great win though and a fabulous achievement. So glad gold is Murrays. Kei did well to earn the bronze
