Watched the last two games live. Can't quite believe he has done it. Defended his Gold. Feel for Del Potro, but after all the heartbreak he has been through in the GS finals, so well deserved. Being able to find a way to win when all you can find is your B- game at best.

Why does it take SO long to get these medal ceremonies going??
Well everyone...wasn't that some experience!!! I have no words to express the joy I feel that Andy has won his second GOLD medal! Oh the emotion of it all. There is no need for any analysis of the match....it absolutely doesn't matter what he did or didn't do....he weathered the storm and he won!!! That's the only thing that matters. May not have been perfect match but with all at stake Andy was strong and impressive in most of the key moments, thrilled how he really turned it on at the end of the 4th to win the Gold medal for 2nd time.. Of course at times he put us through the mill but happy to take that along with the pleasure he gives as more often than not he gives us so many precious moments, immensely proud of him and the Cermony was both thrilling and emotional. Del Potro certainly gave him a hard time and he certainly put everything into it but with a determined and more varied and accomplished opponent he was always likely to come off 2nd best though was so dangerous at times. A special way to end the tournament, magical right now being a Murray Supporter.:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::chee r::clap::clap::gold::olympics::OGwave:

I can't get my head around it. Andy was a legend when his achievements began with the description "first British man in 70-something years to win...". But he's taken it to a whole new level with this "first player ever" win. The magnitude of this accomplishment is just mind-scrambling. And doesn't he deserve his unique spot in sporting immortality. So incredibly special.

There's this facebook video (https://www.facebook.com/Shane.Zerbe/videos/10154665823837697/) with a clip where Andy pays a fulsome tribute to Delpo.
The IOC have been very quick in clamping down on unauthorised videos of the Olympics, you'd think they had better things to do.

4 hours of torture. Made slightly more bearable after I switched the sound off after 3 games.

Do we think Judy was referring to the commentators? ;) Watching the highlights just now I notice Hand & Reed after he won talked more about Delpo than Andy other than to say "Murray coming over to a little band of English supporters". :big grin:
Absolutely wrecked, and I didn't have to get up and go to work. Awed by those of you that managed it. The Olympics have put paid to my swimming as well, too tired after a late night. Last night will be the Rio equivalent of London's Super Saturday - Super Sunday. It is mind boggling that this collection of islands are second only to the USA in the medal table. Do feel all the players who got through to the medals should be awarded a free pass on Cincinati. It's unfair. Does Mr M have to return to carry the flag at the closing ceremony?
He truly is a Braveheart, British Bulldog, Lionheart and has more than a dash of Churchillian defiance about him.

An amazing tournament with some really exciting matches especially both singles finals, it was a battle of strength in both of them at the end, mind and body (and in the rafa kei medal match) so many good games, some real shocks and feeling like the end of Wimbledon now but have to wait another 4 years instead of one. At least a few other sports for another week before the gap then the US Open

Going to rewatch it this morning. Have recorded Olympic Breakfast and The catch up prog.
Andy will be in the States and definitely won't be returning for the Closing cermony,in any case it's not always the same flag bearer-in 2012 it was Chris Hoy for the opening and Ben Ainslie for the closing one. I think it's a pity that the tennis players have to leave so soon after the event, crowded calendar whether Olympic year or not.

according to Simon Reed, Andy & Rafa were flying back to Europe on a private jet last night so it's sounds like 'he outta there' already.
Off to play Cinci I think though Andy sounded about as happy about that as a dose of zika.;)
Well done to Andy. His record is amazing. I didn't realise neither Serena nor Venus had defended a singles title. So he is the only one to win 2 single gold medals - what an achievement! And he's in the top 5 for total olympic tennis medals EVER won by a man.

when they hugged at the net, JM looks HUGE at the side of Andy. I can imagine Andy saying 'ok we can stop hugging now, its beginning to hurt'.
Lol what a sporting hug though be a true gent and a warrior In Del Potro. What a year for Murray which hopefully include more success incl sports personality of the year.

How us everyone doing today after our late night? I felt dizzy with fatigue when I went to bed after the medal ceremony. Still watched Usain Bolt though. Weird that he took seconds to win his gold and Andy took 4 hours or so. What a wonderful night we shared on the Murraycoaster. Hope Andy is ok, in his interview afterwards he did say he was very tired.
Tired for sure on my 3.5 hours sleep, but we have all been here before with the sleep deprivation haven't we?! And it was oh so worth it! Not sure how effective I am being at work though ... I have the attention span of a gnat today! ;)

I got back from holiday yesterday, having travelled most of the weekend and I just couldn't keep my eyes open! Drifted to sleep just as Andy won the third set feeling pretty hopeful he would win. Well done to all of you who managed to stay up and watch such an epic match!

I still feel like excrement. I suspect whilst he is physically knackered, I imagine he is more psychologically done. I think he felt an obligation to add a medal preferably a Gold to the mix, having been flag bearer. I hope he does what is right for him, be that not trying too hard at Cincinnati or deciding the absence of Djokovic gives him a chance to narrow the gap. He has got a lot ahead, with the US Open and DC. Whatever is right for him is ok for me.

I wouldn't even lend credence to his comments by commenting on them. His 'raison d'etre' is purely to get people talking about him, he has no standing in the sporting world any more since he lost his job on C4 racing.

I just don't get why the Beeb employ people like him and Hand (who seemed to always be supporting the opposition). I don't like radically biased reporting in either direction, but it seems really silly to have a reporter who dislikes the person they are supposed to be supporting in their commentary.
Don't be angry, it's his problem, not yours. :)

commentators should report on what is happening in front of them, their opinions they can keep to themselves. Alan Green is another fine example. Forever sounding off about players, because of the money they earn etc. US sports commentators don'y pass comment on players wages, what's the point cos they all get paid a lot anyway.

I had to go out last night and started watching my recording after 12!!! Finished after 4so pretty zonked today but how amazing was Andy :) there's no smile big enough :)
Brilliant, just brilliant! What a match and I had said before it that at worst Andy was getting a silver and I really like Delpo but it didn't take me long to realise I was not wanting Andy to get silver, even a tiny wee bit!! I ate my way through the fridge, made tea, even filled a hot water bottle  ?? and even laughed out loud realising how blessed we are to have him..........
WELL DONE ANDY..........THANK YOU!! I HAVE NO OTHER WORDS!!
Just back from a 6 mile walk with my walking group and been reading through the thread and it has brought back all the emotions from last night. I don't know how you guys can post during an Andy match, so impressive! Bursting with pride for our boy and his achievement. By his own admission he didn't play his best tennis but his sheer will to win was awesome to behold and that he did it against a stubborn Delpo serving bombs and smashing forehands was so exhilarating. I was wide awake at the end and couldn't sleep even after the medal ceremony, finally switching the light out at 2.00 and woke before 6. Flagging a bit now though. Can I stay up again tonight? Not too sure but hey, it's only once every 4 years, so I'll give it a go.

But you must have found it useful to have those bags to put something in...........:getcoat:
Well I'm wrecked today, goodness only knows how Andy is! I was out with family for dinner, distinctly bad timing but it had to be done. So I was really pleased that the previous 2 matches took so long. It meant when I got home it was still the first set so I hadn't missed much. Andy really is an unbelievable fighter. Delpo threw everything at him but Andy just kept battling and found a way through. Some of the shots were ridiculous - in a good way - and some were infuriating. The number of times Andy hit into the net seemed insane.
I have been worth nothing today but fortunately I had the good sense to have arranged to work from home today. Think I'm going to have to redo everything tomorrow though!
But my goodness, it was worth the late night to see our boy win his 2nd Olympic gold. What an unbelievable achievement. So proud of him, and I believe he's only really getting going.

Just caught up on this thread, after a very late night/early morning and then up at 6.45am to prepare for work. What a night of tennis, that match was incredible in every way. Both players throwing everything at each other, truly amazing how they both managed to keep it up for so long. But well done Andy, an incredible win and made the lack of sleep very worth it. I wouldn't have been able to sleep anyway for wondering how he was doing, so best remedy for that was to watch.
People at work seemed surprised that I would have stayed up so late to watch, but wouldn't have missed it for the world. Will definitely be having an early night tonight though!
Pretty knackered now, so lazy evening and probably a wee nap if needs be, lol.
WELL DONE ANDY MURRAY - YOU ARE INCREDIBLE.

Urghhh McCririck is horrible. Andy's fingernail has achieved more than that old windbag. I know we're biased on here (and why not!) but the whole country should celebrate this fabulous sportsman. Some of my work colleagues have been a bit dubious before this year but today when I got into work they were unanimous in their admiration for him (and laughing at my boggy eyes, saying "we know there's no way you didn't watch it to the very end")
McCririck's hatred for Andy is well known so why did Radio 2 book him or more likely that's why they did. He's been offensive about him for years. Before he was kicked off Channel 4's The Morning Line he did a newspaper review and whenever Andy featured he would just let rip and also about Judy. When Andy plays he's always on twitter supporting his opponent against the "snarling anti-English uncouth yob". It's a deliberate tactic to get noticed and probably earned him a 100 quid for his appearance on Radio 2 today.

Apparently it's a medal holder based on the Rio logo. To me it looks like a McDonalds Happy Meal toy. Not sure if Andy broke his but it has caused me endless amusement seeing medal recipients look at it, obviously thinking "what the **** is this?" and not knoẃing what to do with it while the national anthem is played. Just watch a few more medal ceremonies, you'll see what I mean :big grin:

Just catching up on some of your posts. A late night, couldn't sleep and actually have to fit in a day job! That McCririck bloke is gross. I had no idea about any of this but I met someone today who mentioned it and agreed with him!!! They are basically just thick. If someone keeps on believing the same garbage despite the contrary being proved to them over and over, they have, shall we say "issues". Moving on...
That little present they give out does look like a plastic happy meal toy! That is a good description. Personally I have been thinking that the logo it is based on looks like a baby's dummy.
My thoughts on last night, 24 hours on: for me Andy has moved up a notch in the last few months. Based on his results in the last few months, he is number one in the world at the moment. He has gone from someone who had achieved some very good wins to someone who has achieved a significant number. Winning two Olympic golds means he has a record all of his own. I know I'm stating the obvious but it's great - wonderful for him and wonderful for his fans. As a consequence, I suddenly feel calm about things - he has little to prove now.
Listening to the interview was interesting - I noticed that the Del Potro interview had the headline in Italian that he had no toenails left. What they put themselves through!
Well, I just managed to finish reading through all of the posts here.
How AMazing was Andy, 2 Gold medals and first tennis player to win back to back Gold medals. It was a great match and my stomach was churning although deep down I knew Andy was going to win. I'm pleased for DelPo after all he's gone through.
In the on court interview after the match with the US interviewer Andy was full of praise for DelPo and so happy that he has managed to come back after three years and said he didn't know how he had done it and that a lot of players would have given up. He obviously has a lot of respect for him, even halting the interview while DelPo walked past in the background.
All of my friends know how long I have been supporting him and are so pleased, not only for him but for me as well.

A fantastic win for Murray :) I felt that it would be his, but Delpo was great. My partner asked what I wanted for my birthday (the day after the gold medal match) before the quarters and my answer was a gold for Murray and a silver for Delpo. I thought the gold was in the bag, but the silver for Delpo was just dreaming. Great outcome :)
