I believe Laura has a WC into the main draw?

Tara's in qualies too.

No men as far as I know as our main four are straight into the MD :) Now I never thought I'd post that!

When was he on track ?

When was he on track ?

When he got himself into the top 100, and when he beat Isner in that epic DC match.

When he got himself into the top 100, and when he beat Isner in that epic DC match.sadly those are highs in an otherwise uninspiring career

A few more DC highs as well, california Coventry etc

But not against the likes of Isner.

Admittedly he may not have reached the level hoped for, but I do think he had some good times. This year sadly is not one of them

Beating Querrey twice, but esp in San Diego, were other highligts. And definitely agree with you, Jerry - Wardy may not have reached the greatest heights but he makes a living from doing what he loves, which is awesome in itself.

I'm sure we would all happily swap places with him

I'm not sure everyone would but plenty would - Wardy's done really well to come from an ordinary background, with no tennis coach in the family, or wealthy parents to pay for coaching, to crack in to a sport that is sadly still very elitist. I respect that, as I do with Evo, but each to their own views.

Also remember (and no I'm not making excuses for him) but he had a hell of a bad time at the end of last year, what with Darren and everything (which those posts will all have now been lost when we had to "restore" to an earlier session <sticks daggers in the eyes of the hackers> )
With how close they were, it will still take time to get over when something "reminds" him of Darren - geez its over 9 years since my dad died and every now and then I still get upset cos of "something" that will remind me of him

Annoyingly, I still get upset about Darren, and I don't know the bloke, I was fortunate enough to meet him at the R1 tie in Glasgow last year and I did interview him for Tennis Atlantic, but why it hit me as hard as it did when I heard I still can't fathom

Wardy has done well, his father still drives a London cabbie to earn his crust, Wardy is not in the superstar league, but can say he was a top 100 player and was part of the DC winning team when he eventually retires.
With Evo, when he is buckling down and actually wanting to play, I respect him for that, sadly sometimes it's not always the way with him

I just think it's been a rough year. Even the best have those. His confidence seems low which makes it worse. At least it doesn't seem to ruin his love of the game. Which it can. He has more time ahead of him yet I'm crossing my fingers for him.

teaching the top 100 was an achievement. But getting anywhere is. Even for those in the top 300, it's the top 300 in the world. Not sure there's anything I'm in the top 1000 in the world for :)

Tara and Laura won their respective 1st Rds yesterday. Well done girls! Later today Tara plays Lottner (Ger) who is ranked fairly close to her and Laura plays Shinikova (Bul) who is ranked about 100 places ahead of her but that doesn't mean much at the moment. GL to both of them.

Have always liked and admired James. No, he hasn't made it to the top as many journeyman don't but he obviously loves tennis, has contributed in no small way to our Davis Cup triumph and did respectability well in the rankings. He is also a lovely young man and I know as have had many conversations with him. I wish him well for the future in a very tough competitive sport. GO WARDY!! #BacktheBrits

Given that whilst the DC triumph last year couldn't have happened without Mr M, it is a fact that if James Ward hadn't done his David and Goliath act against Isner in the first round we might not have got any further. Winning when you are expected to win is one thing, winning when the bookies would have given you no chance is quite another. I imagine there are very few journeymen who can claim such a decisive win.

That's not even considering him, Evans and Flemming and Hutchins work to get us into the World Group.
