Andy v Kev.

Andy leads the H2H by 5-2 ... but he might be looking forward to this particular match because Big Kev booted 'oor Muzzah 'oot of the US Open 2015 in R16.

It's at 00.01 Friday 19th August ... perhaps a bit late for some AMFF'ers. Including me.

This 3rd round encounter with Anderson is likely to be much tougher than the Monaco match, just hope Andy is in form and that the shoulder issue is not too serious. Peaking for the Us Open though is a bigger priority.

Andy's having a great year against serve-bots like Anderson. My only concern is that he's still knackered from his magnificent exploits in Rio.

JerryD
18-08-2016, 10:56
I'm hoping that the shoulder thing was just some stiffness during the match. Then it could be better for later today. Anderson is a tough opponent and returning his serve won't be great for Andy's tiredness. However he is a much better player than Anderson so I think he will get the win regardless.

Me too- first day of pupils tomorrow so probably not a great start to their year if I'm sleep deprived- still trying to recover from several late nights (well early mornings) of Olympic viewing.

Another who won't be able to stay up for this one. Andy should be able to see off Anderson and his big serve, and of course I always want Andy to win but I won't be devastated if he doesn't. A little recovery time before USO would be good. Hope the shoulder is ok

Andy has Mark "the back whisperer" Bender with him this week so I'm sure he will be able to sort any issue with Andy's shoulder and advice what is best.

Kevin Anderson missed 3 months with a shoulder and ankle injuries and returned at the beginning of the clay court season. Last week he lost in the first round of Atlanta to the even bigger serving Reilly Opelka but did reach the QF in Toronto before losing to Wawrinka. He has a win/loss of 10-13 for the year.

Andy got 2 serves in before they had to go back to locker room. It's absolutely pelting down now with rain. Did anyone see the replay of his serves? He was grasping his shoulder and grimacing. Or was that a replay of his previous match? I really hope he puts his body first.

there seem to be some shoulder twinges. Really hope nothing serious.
Meanwhile court more suitable for Adam Peaty right now..... I'm going to have to watch on catchup tomorrow morning. night all

Bardot
18-08-2016, 23:35
He did have a stretch of his shoulder but it didn't stop him serving an ace first ball. When they sat waiting for the rain to stop he did some self-manipulation of his shoulder. In his press conference he blamed the change of balls here for the stiffness, says they react differently on his racquet. Hopes it gets better as the week goes on.

I think when the result is pain, "blamed" is appropriate. I can imagine Andy used much stronger language, ******* balls. ;)

As a result of a sick dog, I found myself downstairs and watching this at 2.30am. Andy looked in better form than last week, so much for fatigue. The Cincy courts have always suited him and look to be again. One astonishing shot is worth trying to find, a cross court pass off an Anderson smash at 3-2 in the second set.

Well you can expect cake after your first Gold Medal, but if they had to give the lad goodies after every record he has broken over the years, particularly for British Tennis it would wipe out an awful lot of their profits.,....

Once again, had to watch the recording............WOW..........delighted that it puts paid to my FTM big time, but I didn't want to jinx him. Wonderful tennis, great win and apart from a little bit at the outset, it looked as though he forgot about his shoulder. Haven't had time to look around in the last 48 hours but hope he's said somewhere that it's nothing significant. Can't believe the field that's left and of course, of that field, he just has to have Raonic in his half rather than any of the 4 in the other half .......not that that's necessarily a problem but it can be frustrating for him and take away from his mental reserves. Mind you, fully appreciate he's got to get past Tomic first, so in traditional Pabbers style:

:cauldron: :cauldron: :cauldron:

sir coolerking
19-08-2016, 08:53
With this field he was always going to have to beat Raonic at some point, may as well do it in the semi. You can bet that Raonic is wishing a whole lot more he was in the other half from Andy.

Wow, that was fun to watch, or at least the 2nd set which was where I came in. Glad to see that by that time he was only self-manipulating his shoulder and his movement was great. Congrats, Champ on your 600th win and good to see that you are the last man standing of the Rio Musketeers!
