What a spectacular match! Amazing rallies, and Lorenzi...wow! The forecasted hurricane hit NY earlier than expected! But through it all I never doubted Andy would win....as usual he found a way to weather the storm. It's such a joy to watch a player craft a win out of a very tricky situation. That's what makes tennis, and Andy, so special. But take a bow both men...you were both amazing. :clap: :clap: So, so happy Andy is through. :superman:

Well while I'm sure Andy will be disappointed with that performances (too many errors, too few serves in), at the end of the day it's all about the W. A win is a win. It wasn't too long a match so shouldn't make a difference next week and at the end of the day winning when you're not near your best for a lot of the match has to bring confidence. Murray said he had rushed it at points, so he knew the problem. He got a handle on it and got it done. Needs a better performance against dimitrov but I'm certain he'll have one!! Go Andy, well done.

to me, Andy never really invested properly in the match, almost as if Lorenzi should be grateful that Andy's playing him. Early on he looked for the quick finish to the point instead of working his opponent around. He played more sensibly on the bigger points, first set tie break and 3rd and 4th set. Overall a disappointing match but one which he'll learn from and move on.
Lorenzi played well, but probably no different to how he plays every match. He doesn't possess the game to win cheap points, so gets everything back and makes life really awkward for his opponents.

Whereas I thought Dan could beat Stan, I never felt Lorenzi would beat Andy yesterday. Nevertheless, weird playing from Andy. Not good enough to beat the top players like that but there again, he usually finds a way!
I listened to it on radio five live sports extra. Russell Fuller claimed Andy made 63 unforced errors, which isn't like him.

Only just getting to reflect on this match as switched straight over to Dan's match once Andy won. What can you say about the first tẃo sets? It wasn't Andy's finest moment but as usual he was able to find a way to win. Once his first serve turned up he was a different player. Certainly played better with the restrung racquets arrived, maybe the cooler conditions affected his strings. Anyway onward to Dimitrov (and Dani) so all to play for :GBflag:

Andy put his gremlins to bed and came through to win the match. I did suggest Lorenzi was a difficult customer, like a dog with a bone but skill and a tennis brain will always win

These unknown players are always a banana skin I feel and Andy takes his time sometimes in figuring them out. Never in doubt
