Also playing are Brydan and Cameron in Singles and Joe Salisbury in doubles
order of play (5 hours behind us) http://www.protennislive.com/posting/2016/7318/op.pdf
The perfect thread to recognise one of the nicest and most popular guys on tour James McGee who at age 29 won his first challenger title in North Carolina on Sunday and as a qualifier playing 8 matches in 8 days. The mark of the man is highlighted in the trophy presentation when the runner-up Escobedo was too emotional to speak. From about 6:40.

Interesting that Aljaz chose the Rome2 ch80 on clay when he could have got direct entry in Shenzhen or Chengdu ATP250's or Orleans ch100 all hard court
Interesting that Aljaz chose the Rome2 ch80 on clay when he could have got direct entry in Shenzhen or Chengdu ATP250's or Orleans ch100 all hard court
Maybe he feels he has to rekindle the winning feeling and he has more chance of doing that at a Challenger.

You just wonder if this is the start of a career blighted by injury which seems common with the giant players. Mind you it's not surprising given the serves he was booming down in Charlottesville.

Cameron won again 6-3 6-1, into the semi v Taro Daniel who has been in the top100. Cameron is zooming up the 200's now the GB #5 is at #237 in the live rankings and with only 5 points to drop before has every chance, but i'm not sure he knows what a clay court is...only played on hard courts all last year
According to Paul Newman of the Evening Standard, Cameron has been invited to join the GB Davis Cup team in Ottawa as a hitting partner which is fully deserved and should be a great experience for him. I wonder if he's considering quitting university and going full time on the circuit. Apparently as a student he's not entitled to accept prize money and with a Wimbledon wild card in the offing that might help him decide. ;)

Some very close games, deuces break points but Cameron couldn't quite manage it, he lost 4-6 4-6 to the more more experienced Daniel
The commentator during Cameron's match said he'd spoken to him and that he plans to play challengers for the next couple of months but then wants to help his university (Texas Christian University Horned Frogs!) win the NCAA trophy and doesn't plan to turn professional just yet. Maybe Leon can have a word when they meet up in Ottawa.
Horned Frogs? Sounds like an Only Connect team.

It would be fantastic if Liam could match Dan's win last year, he could certainly do with the points to get his ranking back up

A real shock to me in guadalajara challenger, Shapovalov beat pospisil in straight sets with the winner playing lloyd glasspool in the qf. Lloyd had a good win over 6th seed Rubin
Great effort by Glasspool (Hev's boyfriend) who narrowly lost to Shapovalov 6-4 3-6 5-7 in the QF. A couple of questionable calls in the game he was broken at 5-6 in the third.

Shapovalov was finally beaten in the final by Basic 6-4 6-4
Tremendous win by "lucky loser" Liam Broady over flavour of the month Shapovalov in the first round of the Leon Challenger 6-2 6-3. A feisty exchange at the net at the end after Shapovalov appeared to mock Liam's understandably exuberant celebration. Liam could be heard saying "I'm happy I won because you're a good player". Cocky Shapo.
Video of the handshake (https://twitter.com/CdnTennisNews/status/847205018046513153) and aftermath. Shapovalov showing the immaturity of someone who also might launch a ball into the crowd without care as to whom it might hit.
Luck loser Liam didn't have a lucky draw and has just lost in the 2nd round to #1 seed Estrella Burgos 2-6 2-6.

Better news is that Joe Salisbury has made the final at St Brieuc challenger with O'hare having beaten the Skupski's in the QF. They will face Begemann and Nielson
Bedene in action in Verrazano open in France. He won his first round match against Lopez-Perez 6-3 6-4 and plays krajinovic in the next round :)
Also does anyone else think it is weird that paire is playing that tournie even though he is ranked at 39? Surely a little high for the challenger circuit?

And it's only a 90, not a 125 like Irving which drew a lot of highly ranked players. First one of European clay season possibly a reason?

Brydan lost 63 64 to Sam Groth yesterday in very controversial umpiring. Was given a verbal warning, point penalty and finally a game penalty at 5-4 that lost him the match. Hi everyone, I'm off to the Ilkley Challenger on Saturday. Luckily this tournament is just a few miles up the road from where I live so I've gone the past couple of years. A good line up with Brits Marcus Willis, Jay Clarke, Luke Glasspool and Bryden Klein. Marcus and Jay are still alive in the singles so really hope one of them makes it through to the semis on Saturday. Some pretty big names in the draw; John Millman, Sam Groth, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Evgeny Donskoy and Taylor Fritz to name a few! Really lucky to have a challenger on my doorstep!

Had such a good day at Ilkley yesterday! Shame to see Jay lose in the quarter finals but Marton Fucsovic was too good and it looks like he is on his way to taking the title today. Saw promising play from Jay though
Watched both Sam Groth's matches; the quarter final held over from Friday, which he won and then his semi against fellow countryman, Alex Bolt. His serve really let him down in the semi and he got really frustrated. Was surprised to see him stropping at his team and venting his anger by hitting a ball about half a mile into the trees beyond (he got a code violation)! He lost the match between his ears from then on in and Alex Bolt, who was solid but not amazing took the match in straight sets.
Saw the doubles final and it was a shame for Brydan and Joe who got off to a quick start taking the first set. Paes and Shamisdin found their game and really played a smart match in the second set and match tiebreaker. Although disappointed that the British pair didn't win, I was pleased for Leander Paes cos I saw him lose in the doubles final last year and thought it was nice for him to get it this year. He's a bit of a legend too! Had a great day and will be booking my tickets for next year. Feel very lucky to have a challenger tournament so close to home.
Alex Ward has just knocked out Go Soeda in Wimbledon Qualifying- ranked about 750 places above him. Excellent.
