We'll soon find out as he would be heading around there about now if he was playing. Still that's another 500 points off Djokovic's tally.

It's the same injury from the US. While it's sad it is certainly expected. I hope he recovers in time for Shanghai :)

Have seen a Chinese journalist has reported Andy will arrive in Bejing on Sunday. Presumably that means he won't have to play until Wednesday. Not sure if some of the seeds get byes in the first round.

He said that he has been advised not to play and that he is continuing rehabilitation hoping to return to the tour "soon" if he is still rehabbing it then it doesn't look good for Shanghai. Perhaps he will miss the Asian swing and return in the euro indoor hard courts.

29-09-2016, 11:46
You start to wonder whether he might be better off just taking a break till January. Whilst Andy and Rafa have had various injury breaks over the last few years and now Roger too, I don't recall Novak ever taking a period off. This might just be his body sending him a message.

The only time I have ever been to the WTF I saw Djoko v Berdy and it was the most boring match ever. To be fair that was in 2010 - things have changed a lot since then!

QF: Bautista Agut

Some quotes from Andy's press conference in Beijing.

“I think obviously trying to reach No. 1 is a goal...I’ve never been there, It’s something I would like to do for the first time, which is maybe more of a motivation for me than some of the guys that have been there before. I want to just try and finish this year strong from a personal point of view. It’s been my best season to date, and I want to try to finish it as best as I can,”

“I needed to take quite a few days off after the Davis Cup to try and let my injury heal and to rest. I needed a break anyway, I haven’t been able to practice as much as usual coming into an event like this, but I feel healthy. My leg feels good.”

“It was a very long summer with Cincinnati and the Olympics, and coming off Wimbledon and Queen’s as well. I played a lot of tennis. What I needed after that stretch was a break. I needed some time away from the court to rest and recover and freshen up a bit.”

“I think this week I need to be realistic with maybe how I’m going to play, but… there’s no reason why I can’t finish the year strong if I keep my body healthy, stay motivated and have a strong, strong finish to the year.”

“I have very few days of practice coming in here. I'm not putting too much pressure on myself right now. I need to get a few good days of training in here, try and get used to the conditions. If I can get through my first match or so, I'll start to feel better, then reevaluate my chances of going far in the event.”

Thiem plays every week basically, can never recover

This is the reason before the match I was certain that Zverev would take it. Theim has played so much though he will be sad now I'm certain that he is better off. He can have a rest and ready himself for Shanghai. I was expecting and going for a Zverev win so I was happy with this result.

Hoping that gasguet pulls through in the continuation of his match, but if a shame for him and (hopefully) raonic as they will have to play twice in one. I guess they'd sooner play twice on quarters day than semis day though. It shouldn't be too much of a challange for raonic but I could see gasguet suffering in his second match of he wins the first.

JAMES4578

A good win for nadal, great to see his confidence in the tough moments in the tie break. Here is what he had to say about it

“I think I played a fantastic first set. Great level of tennis, serving very good, hitting so good. During the second set, I slowed the rhythm a little bit and he played very well,” said Nadal. “I feel very happy that I won that tie-break. I think I played with the right amount of determination in the tie-break. It’s very important for my confidence to pass through these tough moments.”

He plays Dimitrov next.http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/dimitrov-nadal-gasquet-raonic-beijing-2016-thursday

Certainly seemingly in good form even if bit of challenge in 2nd, hoping for good match with Dimi but wouldn't count on it.

Are you expecting nadal or Dimitrov to go through that one? Or do you think they will both be poor. I thought for nadal, the wobble in the second set would show him he can win the big points, hold his nerve. Could be wishful thinking though
