I wonder if tippy will still play after retiring from his match today. I guess it will be a number of days before he has to play so he has time. If it's just a pull then he could recover.

Sad that paire went out to cilic today but fingers crossed that verdasco will knock cilic out in the next round. Also through is kei nishikori who plays Sousa in the next round.

Tippy will play tomorrow against Japanese daniel. Also back from injury is monfils who plays Japan's Sugita tomorrow.
I am hoping for wins from Simon, Goffin and bhaggy tomorrow.

Nishikori had to retire against Sousa at 4-3 in the first set with a back injury and reportedly was unable to walk upstairs after the match. Berdych lost to Muller 6-7(7) 1-6 so his chances of making the O2 will have taken a blow. Cilic beat Verdasco 4-6 7-5 7-5.

I was gutted about Berdy's loss, I don't want cilic to win anyway as I really like verdasco but berdy's loss makes its worse. If cilic went on to win the tournie he could take berdy's position as alternate. So though it goes against my judgment and my rational self, I will be cheering for his opponents this week lol. I suppose Berdy had a long week last week taking the title in Shenzhen and he played the week before that too. Wish he would have skipped the first week and just played the last two. I need Goffin to win his match to bring some good news.

How awful for Nishi. I simply hope Cilic does not win. Would far rather Berdy made it again than Cilic. Also Thiem not looking likely now; think he has just run out of steam. Should take a couple of weeks off before Basel/Vienna if he is playing in one of those.

Nishikori hasn't made any further decisions regarding other tournies. He said he is still gathering info but the pain doesn't seem to be related to any previous injury, it's unlike pain he has had before and he did feel rested coming in. He said that before the retirement he felt he was playing better tennis than he did in the previous one.

His retirement means Goffin plays Sousa in the quarter finals. Goffin os a favourite of mine so I will be cheering him on watching scores on my phone on Friday. Interesting matches tomorrow include tippy in action and an all French clash Simon vs monfils. I love them both so I'm not sure whose side I'm on for that one. Hoping for baggy against Miller and Stepanek against Nick. Stepanek is also playing doubles with Berdy.

Cilic plays another of my favourites, Monaco on Friday so I am looking forward to that and hoping for a win for Monaco not least to prevent cilic from taking the alternate spot in the WTF

Karlovic's five sets in Tokyo 7-6 6-7 7-6 7-6 7-6. Tipsarevic's response to playing & losing to Dr Ivo.

Janko Tipsarevic ‏@TipsarevicJanko
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Old man Steps withdrew from both singles & doubles with an injury.

So dissapointed with both of those results. Karlovic isn't any good to watch, that match went as you'd imagine it. It's a tough draw for any player, poor tippy needed the points, still trying to work his way back up. Stepy also withdrew from the doubles where he was due to play with Berdy. Though given what Berdy said yesterday maybe he could do with some time off

Monfils beat Simon 6-1 6-4 to get his second victory over him in their head to head. He looked likely to lose the second when he was down and had his ankle looked at on court but he came back and took it two. He plays karlovic in the next round so let's hope for a bad serving day for him. Having seen the result I realised I had wanted Simon to win, but monfils is good too.
The other match that didn't go my way was muller vs baggy. Muller took that one and plays Nick in the next round. Crossing my fingers as none of today's matches went my way. Hoping for Goffin v Monaco and muller v monfils semis with a Goffin v monfils final. Surely one day has to go my way lol :)

Goffin beat Cilic 7-5 6-4 and Kyrgios beat Monfils 6-4 6-4. Nick at his very best if this point is any indication.

Over the moon with the Goffin result but gutted about monfils. Though I guess it makes it easier for me to know who to cheer for on the final!! Come on Goffin!!

http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/kyrgios-to-face-goffin-in-tokyo-2016-f Goffin would move ahead of cilic into 10th place if he wins the title. This is his first final of the season.

Good for Goff who hasn't had the best of times recently, was looking a few months ago like he would make the top10 and now has his chance to get closer to it. Great for Nick, at his best virtually unstoppable apart from against the top two or three. Pity they both can't win.

Well it was a close match, Goff started well but Nick came through in 3 4-6 6-3 7-5. Well done Nick, did well to recover from a set down.

I thought Goffin played a blinder of a first set, then dipped in the second, but was just pipped in the third. Glad for Nick to get the win but was hoping Goffin would take it, good match to watch!!
