We saw this event at the Albert Hall last year - quite exciting but at the same time the players seemed pretty relaxed so I suppose its a good way for Andy to have a bit of practice....presumably its on the same surface as the coming event ?

Is it on TV?

Can't see that it is unless Sky decides to show it.

I too saw it at the Albert Hall last year. I was amused to see Andy stretching and warming up whilst waiting to play whilst others were sitting on the benches! He was taking it very seriously!

My guess is he just didn't want to injure himself by playing cold - sensible Andy.

Brilliant it will be on Sky. It wasn't listed in the Radio Times so they must have changed their minds.

The two groups seem to be slightly lopsided to me - Goran, Marcus and Andy in one team - Tommy, Jo and Dominic in the other! It was interesting watching Andy trying to win without making Marcus look an absolute idiot.

Crofty & Miles constant talk about the slow court and light balls isn't a great advert for the rest of the week.

Andy against the local hero in the final. Will Andy play like he did against Kyle in the first TBT final? ;)

The two presenters are a bit Eurovision aren't they. I keep expecting them to say nil points

JAMES4578

Enjoyable but not to be taken too seriously, nonetheless hoping Andy takes the title this time and quite happy it's against Dominic rather than Goran. Wasn't best best against Tsonga, final maybe higher quality though. Marcus didn't look too comfortable but at least he fought back against Goran.

Bardot
23-10-2016, 19:22
I think Goran deserves the $250K. He gauged it right with the perfect mix of entertainment and effort.

Bardot

Keep it social Domi. 0-5

JAMES4578
23-10-2016, 19:30
Domi certainly impressing but Andy awol, 3-8 down now. Andy exerted a bit of pressure to make it 5-8 with two serves to come but error ridden at the end. Still suppose he can live without the prize!

Bardot
23-10-2016, 19:35
Andy forever the TBT bridesmaid. :crying: ;)

One of Andy's on-off team members (Steve Kotz?) seems to be working with Thiem.

Andy certainly wasn't playing his best in the final. I felt some of the shots were shanked on purpose.

Dominic Thiem today - $250k

Dominic Thiem for playing 12 matches to win BA, Nice and Stuttgart - $251k

Not a bad night.

Can see why Andy thought it was the runner-up trophy. What the heck?

The reason Andy lost from the Tie Break Ten's media mouthpiece who's keeping it real. ;)

DavidLaw ‏@DavidLawTennis
Thiem is an awesome player when he rips through the ball. One of the few that can pierce the Murray defence. Goran says Thiem will be No.1.

A pretty good Sunday nights entertainment...as James said, not to be taken too seriously. Would love to see Andy and Thiem play a proper match, although I have no doubt about the outcome. Andy could handle him no problem. Did Andy think that weird trophy was his? The look on his face was so funny (and probably relief too) when he found out it was for the winner!! Maybe he just wanted a closer look at it?? ;)

Andy and Thiem could face each other in the semis of the proper tournament, wouldn't discount Dominic but if transpires should be different result!

I think so, probably

Bardot
23-10-2016, 20:30
I would say it was played for real in the same way as the IPTL in that players want to win but losing is insignificant and there's not that pressure.

Josephine
24-10-2016, 00:10
Watched recording fast forwarding through all the padding. None of the matches were very close. Lots of errors and double faults. Not nearly as much fun as IPTL.

Disappointed Andy didn't win. But I had a feeling Thiem would beat him. He was playing the best in that format. No way Andy let him win. Theim won that convincingly. Doesn't mean anything in real scheme of things.

Andy didn't serve very well the whole way through.

I defo thought Andy wasn't playing in the final to win.

Josephine
24-10-2016, 18:33
Why? Thiem out hit him clearly. I can't imagine any reason Andy would not play to win. He could have given the prize money to Unicef for Refugees as he has supported in the past.

MurrayAOne
24-10-2016, 21:13
Playing to win? Of course he was. It's what he does. Where has this doubt come from? Don't understand this at all.

Silverdee
25-10-2016, 07:43
Nor me. This is the man we have been told who hates to lose at anything. Even scrabble. A comment was made about whether he would let Sophia win!

Alis
25-10-2016, 12:35
Playing to win? Of course he was. It's what he does. Where has this doubt come from? Don't understand this at all.
It comes from the final of the TBT last year in London - quite a few of us thought that Andy engineered to lose the final there so that Kyle would win the £250,000. I'm still convinced that he did. There's no reason really why he should do that in Vienna though, other than it is Thiem's home ground. Would he be so magnanimous? Maybe - maybe not.

Josephine
25-10-2016, 13:12
Andy lost to Kyle and lost to Thiem because in one ten point tie break, they played better than he did. Quite insulting to them both to suggest Andy, who wouldn't even let Mark Pertchey's children beat him, would suddenly throw a game. Both Kyle & Thiem have quite powerful games and in such a short format, that can be an advantage.

Why on earth would Andy choose to lose to Thiem, whom he might face in the semi-final soon?

And I watched the Kyle set and he won that - no way Andy deliberately lost it.

Alis
25-10-2016, 13:42
Okay - have it your way. I didn't see the Thiem tie break but you're probably right anyway.

JAMES4578
25-10-2016, 13:49
There was bit of a "debate" after Kyle won the Tie break Tens at the Albert Hall and I remain unconvinced that Andy let Kyle win let alone Dominic,it is well documented that Andy is so competitive whether it really matters or not or whether the winnings would mean more to another player. There were a few wild errors this time round but no way do I believe Murray simply gave it away. Of course possibly not being as motivated as a regular match is another matter, though the short format may not favour him against certain players.
