Looking forward to this event. Vienna is beautiful and the venue looks lovely with its plush red velvet seats and plants. Would love to go one year.
Me too RB; this is one City I would love go to (during the tennis tournament of course). Supposed to be very expensive though.
It is on my list too, both the tournie and the city. Would be fantastic. Berdy, Theim and ferrer are slow down to play this event. With some of the other guys heading to Basel instead. Ferrer would be hoping to defend as many points from last year as possible but with Murray the 2014 champion playing, ferrer probably isn't expecting to defend his 2015 title.
Maybe we could organise a forum trip to this one year. Seems a popular choice, and it would be nice to go to other tournaments as well as DC together. But as tm15 says, Vienna is pricey so better start saving.

Hi guys :) yes a lovely city. We went for Sachertorte just before Andy went! We flew to Bratislava first as it's only an hours bus journey away.

This is a great idea. I would be up for it. My friend went recently, they flew to Bratislava with Ryan air to get it cheaper and then took the train to Vienna. They said it was a beautiful city. I will start saving. Lol. It would be good to do more forum trips than just the DC. I know Bats are headed to Antwerp this year.

I fancy that Rosie B  vienna & monte carlo are 2 that are top of my list to do outside the slams. Also like the idea of forum get togethers at other tourneys other than DC

I have been to Monte Carlo but not the tournie. That's on my list too :)
I would also like to go to Austria, as that's where my grandmother's family (on my dad's side) came from.
I'd also love to go to Vienna, and was thinking about the tournament this year but never quite got round to saving the money! Would definitely be up for a Forum trip to Vienna, Monte Carlo or anywhere really. When I win the lottery (might take some effort as I don't do it.....), my fantasy is to spend 2 years following the ATP tour round the globe - concentrate on the far flung one year and Europe the next. Sorry, gone right off topic. Apologies :)

Would be happy to visit with the group, went to Vienna Christmas markets etc last year and stayed in the middle of old town so could walk to most places. It's quite expensive there but much cheaper to stay away from the centre and can also save if you fly to Bratislava which is doable by taxi or train.
This sounds a great idea. By chance, I had an email from Jet2 yesterday and they do reasonable city breaks to Vienna over various number of days. It also would be good to get Odds' input as she lives there. Haven't seen her on the forum for a while but I'm sure that she is getting excited about Andy playing there next week.
I would love to go but have to limit tennis trips or risk divorce .... ;)
If there's been limited DC to go to one year I would definitely consider it though. And I agree, it's a great idea to have other forum trips outside of DC. There will always be times that everyone can't do as with DC but the more trips, the more opportunity to get together which is great.
As someone who has lived in Vienna for over 30 years, I can highly recommend a visit. It's a truly beautiful city: magnificent architecture, well-maintained parks (lots of them - it has a greater ratio of green space than any other capital city in the world); music; opera; the list is endless. And, actually it's not nearly as expensive as the majority of UK cities (although the weak pound makes any overseas trip costly, I suppose). I go every year to the Erste Bank Open (Tuesday is "Frauentag" with free entry for women) and yes, I was there for "that" final against Ferrer a couple of years ago. Sadly, will miss it this year, as it coincides with our son's wedding in Malaysia. There aren't many things that would trump an opportunity to see Andy play, but this is one of them. I'd be more than happy to act as a guide if the forum managed a trip here. Maybe for next year's tournament?

Good to see plenty of interest in a forum trip. As others have said, BATS organise trips to events besides DC, so should we! Vienna seems a popular choice, and it gives us plenty of time to work out how to go about things, so let's start here. We would all want to sit together, so is the first thing to contact the event and see if they accommodate block bookings? Anyone familiar with the event and/or speak German? ...Odds?
Also, we would want to make sure Andy's playing...
Advice anyone..? How do we get forum trips up and running?
You can count on me for any German language needs, including block bookings. Tickets are valid for a full day's play and give access to both the singles (specific seats) and doubles (open seating) arenas. Tickets normally include free use of the public transport system (tube, trams and buses), and the venue is a 2-minute walk from the tube station.
Had a quick look at the website.... Can't tell if they do group sales nor whether that option is available at other ATP events, only having been to Wimbie and DC myself. This year Andy wasn't named as playing until beginning of June.
For groups of 12 and over, there's a discount of five euros per ticket. And I would say there's no need to rush and book until we know if Andy's playing. I've never had any problems getting tickets right up until the last minute. The venue is never full until the weekend. I've bought good seats for the Saturday and Sunday the same week as the tournament before now. Of course it might be harder for a block booking, but I'd still say July/August is plenty early enough.
Cant do this next year - already doing Nottingham and hoping to catch some of an ITF etc in Romania (see thread)
I'd be interested too.
I don't know if anyone would find this helpful, but this is what we do on VB when we go to tournaments such as Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome. We decide the rough area where we want to sit and book our tickets either in small groups or individually in that area so we are all sitting near each other (I don't know about Vienna, but for most tournaments it's very easy to buy your tickets and pick your seats online). We don't stay in hotels, but book apartments, in twos or threes or whatever, again all in the same area of town so it's easy to meet up (in Monte Carlo we all book apartments in the one massive apartment building). We then don't need to eat out at restaurants every night (but normally do at least one night) but can self-cater which works out cheaper. It makes it easier to make up packed lunches, too, and of course there's no need to have a hotel breakfast either.

This sounds like a great idea. With the flag too. All the details for tickets, including travel, very positive. What a great idea.
Could be the start of a lot of extra fun!

With talk of a forum meetup in September is there still enough members keen on this tournament in October?

Not me I'm afraid, not this year anyway. The meet up will be somewhere a lot cheaper!

I could be tempted by Vienna but would have to see.
I think I would struggle with Vienna this year with this tie, Peru, wimbie, wtf and some walking weekends. I would be interested next year but just don't think I could stretch that far this time.
