Perhaps that's what he's hoping too!
Gilles Muller could well be a tricky second round opponent for Djoko - he's looking good in Basel.

Tough draw for Novak for once, Muller, Dimitrov, Cilic/Goffin and Wawrinka is not easy at all.
Is JMDP still to be inserted into this draw?
I don't think Delpo's playing Paris, is he? I thought Basel was to be his last tournament for this season.

I was worried about Andy for Paris after the first two hard fought matches in Vienna, from the exhaustion point of view, but am so pleased the rest of the tournament was not so tiring and he had come in to Paris pretty much as fresh as anybody can be given the run he has had in his last three tournaments!
oop for Monday - http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/paris/352/daily-schedule
Haase retires with a hip injury with the score at 2-6 2-3 so Andy will play Verdasco in the 2nd round.

Simon has just beaten Benneteau in 3 but he didn't play with the same relentless accuracy that he produced against Andy in Vienna.
It appears that Djoko isn't the only one to be coachless in Paris - seemingly, Jamie isn't with Andy either.

Now we know who to blame for Djok's cheesy gestures to the crowd. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-3891218/Novak-Djokovic-hopes-love-peace-return-imperious-best-world-No-1-turns-ex-journeyman-player-spiritual-guru-Pepe-Imaz.html
Whatever floats your boat I suppose, but Djok's recent results hardly endorse his guru's influence

Berdych must beat Sousa or he's not going to London. He's leading 3-2 on serve in the final set.

As it looks, Sky are only showing the afternoon session today (til 6.30). No sign of anyone showing the evening session (which includes Baghdatis v Dimitrov).
A nervous Berdych served 2 DFs and faced 2BPs at 4-4 but he held firm and wins 7-5 in the third.

I watched part of the Fel Lopez match today. The guy has been on tour since 1997. He is a world class player, has regulary been in the top twenty and had good seedings in so many tournaments.
Yet in nearly twenty years he has won 5 titles.
It makes me realise just how lucky we have been with Andy!

Oh good I won't have to dodge all the media tomorrow to avoid hearing the score of Andy's match! Will be home in time to watch it live. I see they have only given him an hour to do the job!! ;)

I've just come in to see that Djoko has beaten Muller in straight sets. Was anyone watching the match - how did Djoko play?
I've just come in to see that Djoko has beaten Muller in straight sets. Was anyone watching the match - how did Djoko play?
I watched the match..or most of it. Djok certainly didn't play his best but then neither did Muller. If he had had more opposition (no disrespect to Muller) Djok might have struggled. But then again, the top players find a way to win matches when not at their best and eventually play their way into the tournament. We shall see.
IMO not a very engaging match. The crowd seemed to ignore Djok's usual 'love sending' thingy after he won. Saw his 'guru' in his box. Did anyone notice who else was there?
I also watched a part of the match between RBA and Gilou. RBA served for the match, couldn't get the job done and eventually Gilou came thru on the TB. (by the skin of his teeth really). Gilou lost his rag sometimes during that match which was very up and down.
oop for Thursday - http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/paris/352/daily-schedule
Struff has just knocked out Wawrinka in 3 sets.
Can only think the reason Wawrinka is not getting booed is there's so few left in the crowd. Great win for Struff but poor effort from Stan. It means one of Struff, Isner, Gasquet or Sock will be in the SF. It's up to Dimitrov or Cilic to remove Djokovic before then.
So Wawrinka keeps the strange thing going!!

i'm not so sure. He is improving but seems lacklustre to me. Dimi has dropped off since winning the first
Dimi is getting more and more frustrated with himself. He really needs this service game - c'monnnnn!
Dimi seems to have lost his forehand. He did everything right in that point and then put the easy shot out.

Yeah I noticed that too
Yeah I was going to comment on that too. Saw the first set, had to go out then but back in time for latter half of third. So I gather Dimi dropped a level rather than Djok raise his game? Commie seemed to think Djok found a better level? A long match...can he sustain another long struggle tomorrow I wonder when he faces Cilic?
Tsonga just been dished a bagel by Nishi! He was booed by the crowd. For once I agree with the commie who reckons the French crowd are harsh. Have they no loyalty? Commie also quoted Tony Nadal...."There is only one crowd worse than a French crowd and that's a Parisian One". Back to Tsonga...I don't know what's going on there...he can only get better.

That is a definite advantage
Berdych and Simon have still to come onto court. If the match goes long, whoever wins won't have a lot of time to recover before a 6.30 p.m. start tomorrow. Definitely an advantage for Andy I think.
This match has turned into a bit of a cliffhanger! Compelling viewing now!

Watching it. Crossing my fingers for Tsonga - he has fought so hard for this.
And Tsonga takes it. A great match. Well done Tsonga. In this instance his little dance is a joy to see. Good for the French crowd as well.
Who would have thought!! At last (for the French) a French man wins a match today!!
ge Tsonga, what a terrific game, really enjoyed that
An amazing comeback from Jo - really pleased for him. I feel sorry for Kei though - he must wonder how he managed to lose that match.
Oh Kei! One heck of a choke with 2 DFs after missing 2 MPs.
Feel sorry for Berdych, there should a rule about matches involving Simon always being first on the schedule. ;)

Talk of this match finishing in the wee small hours may be premature as Simon has an MTO for a knee injury at 2-5 down in the first set.
Berdych playing like a man on a mission. Match over in 68 minutes 6-4 6-3.

............. and served a drug ban.
So we hold this against someone for the rest of their career do we?! Even though it was inadvertently ingested .... "The ITF acknowledges that the nikethamide came in a packet of Coramine glucose tablets, a dietary supplement that Cilic had been using regularly and which in the form he normally took did not contravene the Wada code". Yes, of course he should have checked for new additives and he alone is to blame for not doing so but IMO this does not make him a "drugs cheat", it just makes him unprofessional at that time .... 3 years ago now and I am sure he checks everything to the n'th degree now.
I am not a massive fan of Cilic but neither do I dislike him to the degree many people on here appear to .... and I certainly don't hold this grudge against him. He served his ban, end of.

So do I.:clap::clap: Very, very well said Caro - I echo your post 100%. Would also add that Cilic's ban was reduced to 4 months because the panel (i.e. the people with the individual facts of the case in front of them, not 'armchair experts' who love to indulge in trial by media), unanimously agreed that there would have been absolutely no trace of anything in his system by the time he was scheduled to play again and thus was in no way seeking an advantage. Unprofessional yes, but he paid the price and should be allowed to move on. But many posts on here (not just about Cilic e.g Troicki) don't seem to care for proportionality or detail, just sweeping statements and grudge holding. I'm no particular Cilic fan either, esp now he's taken my lovely Goff's O2 spot, but one doesn't have to be a fan to show basic fairness towards someone.
I am the first to accept that my dislike of Cilic may be totally irrational and, just to show how very fickle I am, I will be whole-heartedly supporting him in his match this afternoon!;)

Thanks MP :) was beginning to panic, in case I miss Andy!
15-40 - second serve - and he's broken back!
2 DFs! Would you believe it? Don't waste it Cilic. 5-5
wow pair of DFs from nole to give back the break
The question is does Cilic believe he can win this?
Cilic's best chance is probably breaking to win the match, I'd be worried about him serving it out. ;)

You're much more highly principled than I am, J - on an occasion such as this I can compromise mine! ;)

Brave second serve on MP.
What a point to save the second! Deuce

Get in! :yahoo: Hvala Marin!!! :thanks: Literally the only time I have ever cheered Croatia over Serbia ;) Now keep your head Andy boy and take your rightful place at the very top of the game #alwaysbelieve. :superman::jitterbug:
Nobody beats Marin Cilic 15 times in a row.
Thank you Marin!
Long way to go yet - one step at a time.

Berdych has almost as much as Andy to play for, this is going to be a tough one.
Two more matches Andy, just 2 teeny weeny little matches ..... which I won't be able to watch! Waaahhh!! Typical eh? Flippin typical. Will be madly checking live scores and driving everyone I'm with crazy!
Cilic!!!! Yayyyy! I cheered as loudly in that match as I do when Andy is playing!!! Blood pressure match! Fantastic result...not only for Andy but just as much for Cilic too. This is so exciting!!

Very true...but might mean Berdy will be equally nervous
Well done Cilic. Some great play. (Still not keen on him though)
I have to watch Andy on replay later as I have a friend coming in for supper at 6.30!! How did I manage that! This poor friend going thru a bad time though, so I don't really mind. Will still enjoy Andy's match later as I won't know the result.
Everything crossed for Andy to redress that loss to Cilic in Cincinnati should he meet him in the final.

Well done to Cilic.
I will be very nervous for Andy now. I think it is a lot of pressure for him. Not sure he was really expecting this to happen this week. And he only has half an hour to come to terms with it.
Anyway GO ANDY!!
Was in the park, and following the live scores. Following the same theme, don't like Cillic, but delighted he has knocked Djokovic out.
Gap 425 - not counting today's match for Murray.
I would really like Andy to meet Novak before the Aus open to get into his head a bit now that he's not as invincible as he once was. May happen at the O2 although they'll probably be in different round robin groups.
Well I could take or leave Cilic...no strong feelings but at the moment I am very much taking him!! (That is unless or until he meets Andy in the final but a way to go there.)
Wow - didn't expect that, but Andy would have beaten Novak on current form (sorry, no fan of Cilic). Tremendous pressure on Andy as I don't think realistically he thought he would be in this position right now ; never like his matches with Berdych at the best of times!
When this happened at Wimby Andy just carried on saying that he will take one match at a time and that it did not affect his side of the draw. He has a very sensible attitude to all this

I think Andy might have been playing it down by saying that but I'm sure he was hoping it would and was prepared that it might!

I'm not nervous at all...because if Andy doesn't do it here, it's only a matter of time. It *is* going to happen, so I'm happy to kickback and enjoy the ride for however long (or not) it takes. That said...GOOOOOOOOO ANDY!!!!! :GBflag::GBflag::GBflag::GBflag::GBflag:

Certainly was a great performance from Cilic as Djokovic upset again, looks as if Nole's mind not quite in the right place but Marian still had to earn it-looked as if it might turn earlier though. Andy has a good shot of the top ranking this week particularly after coming through tough first set with Berdy, however not taking anything for granted!

But still slower than it's quoted ranking of medium fast, should be over 40
Raonic was so impressive on his serve, Tsonga didn't get a look-in, 6-2 7-6(4). It means Thiem is on his way to London.
So it's Raonic. Felt for Tsonga, but he did his best. I imagine Raonic is going to be out for blood, and wanting to spoil Mr M's party after Mr M spoilt his at Queen's and Wimbledon.

Isner leads the 2nd set 4-3 with the break ...

Isner is into the Final in Paris with a 6'4, 6'3 win over Cilic.
First American to make the Final since Sampras!!!
Mightily impressive from Isner who as well as serving up to his high standard was moving so well. Those blisters on his hand must have healed quickly.
Let's hope Bambi on ice is back in action tomorrow!
