Andy leads the H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/andy-murray-vs-gilles-simon/MC10/SD32) by by 15-2.
;)
He has 2 wins over Gillou already this year, both in straight sets, at the Shanghai Masters a couple of weeks ago (6'3, 6'4) and at the Madrid Masters on clay (6'4, 6'2). Here's hoping for three in a row.
:boogie::boogie::boogie:
I beat you to it, posting at the same time :p but yours had more info in so you win.

This will be a far sterner test for Andy and he will need to step up from tonight's performance.

It was some years ago that Simon really challenged Andy.

Should be another win for Andy.
All the best of luck, Andy

I don't think we can dismiss Gilles that easily...he can still be a very tricky opponent when he gets his game on song. Now that Andy has had a bit more experience of the court and is well aware how to play Simon he should be fine - but despite a few days rest I thought he definitely looked a bit 'out of sorts' yesterday. All fingers crossed
Josephine
27-10-2016, 12:32
Don't think Andy looked all that comfortable yesterday and the slow court doesn't madly suit him. Simon could be very difficult on a court like that.
Hoping not too difficult!
The 6-0 final set yesterday will be a positive reminder I'm sure, even if Gilles can be quite a threat.
david1610
27-10-2016, 14:40
Actually some of yesterday's defence was stunning - in a couple of cases, unbelievable, even by Andy's standards.
Perhaps the concentration was not quite 100% given the walkabout service games, but his opponent was hitting the ball so hard at times.
Nothing particularly worrying given it was a first match of the week.
I agree Andy has to step up in terms of consistency - yesterday his opponent helped to bring about his own defeat as he blew hot and cold. C'mon Andy!

I sometimes think the lower ranked players go out for all it's worth to try to beat the top seeds. Towards the end of the 2nd set Andy still looked fresh - the other guy didn't! Simon is a step up though, no doubt.

Let's gooo Andy. Gillou is one tough little scrapper, but hopefully no dog fight tonight. C'mon Andy a short and sweet straight setter! :cheer:
Good timing. Just back from walkies.
I like it when Andy takes his first BP in a match. 1-0
Good lad quick start early break
1-0
Andy obviously after a compedative match hands the break straight back
1-1
Alas, not what we wanted.

Just tuning in. Love a Simon v Andy match
Really want this done in 2. Too tired for the stress of 3.
Andy looking to his box for an explanation. ;) 1-3
Always confident Andy can break Simon just gotta hold the odd service game ;)
ok now let's get going please Andy
This is going back to the old Murray :coaster: days.
Now Andy a hold would be nice
Cmon
Just tuning in. Love a Simon v Andy match
I'm sure there's a support group you could join. ;)
1 - 4. Andy is much better than this.
Eeek - that husky annoucer's voice is well creepy.
C'mon Andy!he did sound a bit ruff :shamed:
If he was a golfer he'd give her a signed glove. ;)

Certainly not best of starts but Andy can turn it around, Simon though with some impressive shots-come on!
Much better, love hold. 2-4

27-10-2016, 17:31
Come on Andy...you can do this!
If he was a golfer he'd give her a signed glove. ;) Tiger would certainly have given her one
Pity, did well to get back to deuce. 2-5
One last chance to save the set
Cmon
Scrappy tennis from both just Simon less scrappy than Andy. 3-5
Not a great start for Andy but I still don't think he's going to lose this match.
That looked out & it was. 15-30

Andy's so funny, he's in a really huffy mood tonight, but when he decides to turn it on, bam - break. Oh the power.
david1610
27-10-2016, 17:48
focus. don't give it back. C'mon Andy!
24 unforced errors in a set for Andy and only 29% of 2nd serves won to Giles 61% - not good reading.
And Simon serves first in the 2nd. Hopefully he can do what he did in the 3rd yesterday.
RosieBear
27-10-2016, 17:53
Oh Andy  Broken 3 times in a set. Never mind, Andy can raise his level again (for more than just one game) and take this. Well, he'll have to because Gillou sure as heck won't go away. C'mon Andy, you can do it!!!
I think Andy's decided the court is so blinking slow that there's no point trying to hit through it, just get the ball back.
I'm wondering what it is that makes a court 'slow'.

Sand in the paint I think.

Service breaks are almost inevitable with these two players on this surface - but the amount of unforced errors is a bit concerning.
To be honest I think Andy has got his sights on the 02 - although he hates losing and could well step it up. Gilles playing very well though
JAMES4578
27-10-2016, 17:59
Giles certainly up for it,whilst Andy fought couldn't quite do enough in 1st-can step up but going to be bit of slog today!
Another double fault - Andy is cream crackered methinks.
I think perhaps the pressure to become No 1 could be getting to Andy, just like the pressure to win Wimbledon did.
There will be a winner of this match but it won't be tennis.
I don't think I've ever seen Andy make so many errors. Perhaps this is just a tournament too far.
He is looking knackered. I wasn't looking forward to this one for that reason.
Gillis is making it look much easier than Andy is.
Some hold, saves 6 BPs. 1-1

Well done Andy for hanging in on that game!

Well done Andy - dug so deep there - keep going
It's a funny old game. 2-1
14 min 30 sec and he finally gets the game. He needs a break pretty soon and not sure it's on the cards. Simon's no pushover.
............ and then he breaks - yay!!!!!
RosieBear
27-10-2016, 18:16
Well done Andy! Huzzah - rush up the court and a quick point to get the job done. *That's* the way to beat relentless Gillou esp when Andy's having an offish day. Own the net Andy! Let's go!
Spoke too soon, let's hope this service game is quicker than the last and ends in Andy's favour!

27-10-2016, 18:18
Go Andy!!!!!
One BP too many to save. 2-2

Andy breaks to hold. ;) 3-2

He is looking very weary. In all honesty he would be better letting this one go (with John Isner next) and concentrating on Paris and WTF at the O2.
I think the strain has caught up with him a little - although I sort of trust him to pull it out of the bag.
RosieBear
27-10-2016, 18:29
Yay - well done Andy  Not been a pretty match but he's hanging in

Please hold this time Andy!!
Now, please hold - it doesn't have to be pretty.
Fantastic! A love hold - how precious is that?
Now a love break and Andy's serving for the set - what a strange match.
Wow - Andy never ceases to amaze me!
This is like one of those Sci Fi films where people swap bodies......!!!
Second set to Andy :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
We're going a third, buckle up. 6-2

and break
"Does Simon have anything left?" asks the commentator. Err...No.
Andy on fire! Come on Andy!!
What a man - what a player!!!
Really don't think Andy looks knackered. Am hoping the drop in service quality during this and the last match (and apparently the tie break tens which I didn't see)is not down to tinkering with what had become very effective first and second serves.

PHEW.... That caused some problems but he made it through like the fighter he is
I'd forgotten how hard it was to watch one of Andy's roller coasters!! Well done Andy!
:phew::phew: Sheer winning desire from Andy!!
During the match one of the commentators (Lee ?) said he'd been talking to Mark Bender (Andy's physio this week) who told him it's a miracle what Andy is able to do now as many athletes don't recover to be able to play after the type of back surgery he underwent.
Everything crossed for a less traumatic win tomorrow!
Wow - what a match! I think it's called winning ugly - Brad Gilbert would be proud. Poor Gilles, he must wonder what he has to do to beat Andy.

I am glad we didn't know that at the time........ Just getting to No 1, and the two missing GS's will do me. I actually think him getting to No 1 is my top wish.

I did not see most of the match as I have been out this evening but I was convinced Andy was going to lose after that first set. So pleased he managed to get the W in the end but what has he got left in the tank?
:phew: Just finished watching the replay of Andy's match. I have had my nieces staying all week and had to leave them to the airport this evening. I was sad to see them go, but cheered myself up with the prospect of coming home to watch the replay. Well....never a dull moment! Andy had to find his way through the undergrowth in the first set, but when he finally emerged in the clearing, he was up up and away! Some very exciting rallies, some head in hands moments and some moments of sheer genius, but overall a tough, well fought match with both players refusing to give in at times. Love watching how Andy finally breaks down the opposition. Good one Andy! Well done.:clap:
Well done Andy for battling through. :swingin:
Never doubted he'd win even though it wasn't pretty. Hope his serve returns soon. He's clearly on a mission and was it at the Olympics against Del Po where he was heard to say "there's no way I'm losing this match"? Think that pretty much sums things up at the moment.

Completely agree pabbers. There is no way Andy will give up on a match to concentrate on next week or WTF. It's just not what he does.
I was also watching recording. Hubby on earlys this week so only fair to let him have the choice for a couple of hours .... so we watched dramas we can watch together and I watched Andy without knowing the score after he went to bed #compromise. Might have to watch live on the ipad tonight though. Good thing about catch up is fast forwarding through the adverts and replays!

I tend to watch recorded as well - unless really big match.
I fast forward through the ads and the gaps in play between each point -takes about half the time to watch. Last night I did find myself fastforwarding x 2 during some of the rallies! Some were interminable!
Still well done Andy - got through again. Hope he will not be too tired next week. I think Novak will come back refreshed.
