Head to head is 14-6 in Andy's favour, including the last seven in a row, most recently in the Beijing semis 6-2 6-3.

Ferrer has withdrawn, he did not look good yesterday when he finished the match......so Andy playing an exhibition with Melzer....more to follow

Just heard that Ferrer has pulled out and Andy will play an exhibition match against Jurgen Melzer.

Ferrer has pulled out and Andy has agreed to play an exhibition match

Disappointing but suppose at least playing exhibition which will give him some practice against Melzer.

That's great news for Mr M, matches against Ferrer tend to be slug fests. Hope the Tsonga match goes to 3 now. Murray deserves a break. A light practice match against Melzer is just what the doctor ordered.

Not often Andy gets a walkover will be fresher for the final

A well deserved little breather space for Mr M!

So Andy to agree to an exhibition match when his body is probably screaming out for a day off . Remember him stepping in at O2 when Fed pulled out of final so as not to disappoint the fans.

Will the exhibition match be televised?

That's what I wondered. Just seen Ferrer has pulled out. Probably whacked out after his two previous matches.

Hopefully it will be. Sky 4 is covering tennis until 6pm. As it is an Andy exhibition I'm sure they will do so

Yes - a tie-break tens match

JAMES4578
29-10-2016, 13:52
Been announced exhibition is only a Tiebreak Ten- hoped for at least a set! With the amount of tennis he's played suppose will likely be an advantage but had he as expected beaten Ferrer, was clear favourite anyway!

Stell

Just found out about Ferrer pulling out. Brilliant news, as Tsonga and Karlovic have gone to a third set.

Teresa
29-10-2016, 13:53
A tiebreak 10's will be no more than a practice stroll for him.

As Andy gets a w/o, if he were to lose tomorrow, would he only get QF points or does he get SF points to add to his tally?
(Not wishing him to, of course, but just for the sake of knowing for the race to no. 1!)

He has won his semi final. The whys and wherefores are irrelevant.

Alis
29-10-2016, 13:59
I'm pretty sure he gets semi-final points. After all, it's not Andy's fault that they aren't playing.

Yes Andy will get the semifinal points :)
But there is something like this... is it the bye into the second round where you do not get the first round points if you lose, or am I having a bad brain day!

Not often Andy benefits from a walkover. Shame for Daveeed, but nice for Andy!

This 10 point TB with Melzer is another chance for us to speculate whether Andy's trying to win or not. ;)

Andy won 10-6 and other than a couple of loose FHs was fully committed although helped by Melzer's inability to keep the ball in court.

Yes brilliant news for Andy, but I hadn't realised Andy got the W/O and I nearly broke my neck to complete my gardening in time to watch the match!! I flew in just in time to get changed and was really looking forward to enjoying Andy's match. When JW won his match I couldn't understand why commie was so excited because Andy was going to play JW in the final. Hold on, I thought, Andy has to win yet, then penny dropped! :lightbulb: Although feeling a bit cheated out of a match, I really am pleased Andy has an easy day today. Really looking forward to final tomorrow. Maybe it's back to the garden now for me to complete some chores I had abandoned! Or maybe I will watch the TB first! Does the clock go back in Austria tonight as well...wondering that for the time of the match tomorrow?

JennieF

12.45 tomorrow - that's my Sunday lunchtime sorted then!

He! He! Can't believe it! Missed it! That was quick! Not meant to see Andy today!

It was very much a stroll in the park for Andy - hardly lasted 15 minutes - I'm sure he works a lot harder at his practice sessions.
Still, it was noble of him to come out and do it for the crowd even though he was there and ready to play he could have said No - typical of Andy.
Hope the day break works well for him, he didn't have too much of a challenge yesterday and a match against Ferrer could have been a killer stamina wise. Looking forward to tomorrow now

I have been checking time changes and it would seem clocks don't go back in Austria until 30th. If that is the case, that would mean we would be 2 hours behind Vienna tomorrow...yes? And therefore Andy's match would be not before 11.50 GMT?? Confused.com or not??!!

Tomorrow is the 30th. Europe changes clocks at the same time, that 12.45pm will be the time in the UK (after the hour change).

Just to put Ferrer's withdrawal into context (courtesy of ATP site):
Ferrer had conceded a walkover only one other time in an ATP World Tour tournament. In 2009, the Spaniard withdrew from his second-round match in Valencia. He's played 1,024 career matches.
