Andy will need to be on the ball tomorrow!!!
Raonic will be a stern test, and he's improving all the time.

Andy leads the H2H 8'3 including wins in Finals this year at Queens and Wimbledon and 3 other wins at the AO Open and Masters in Monte Carlo and Cincinnati.

Well, this year Andy beat Raonic to win his record 5th Queens title, beat Raonic to win his second Wimbledon, so it seems fitting that Andy complete the hat trick tomorrow(:peace:)Andy gets the number one spot and Raonic gets nominated for patsy of the year award. Sounds ok to me. Go Andy, I know you can do it - on your day, you've been the best player in the world for years, time to make it official mate :jitterbug::jitterbug::jitterbug:

Raonic has had a couple of surprising defeats recently like to Berankis in the first round of Basel but he was rock solid against Tsonga tonight. He said at the beginning of the week he's playing with a ligament tear in his ankle which can cause problems but he's waiting until the end of the season to sort it out.

In all this exhilarating and shattering excitement we are overlooking the fact that Andy has never done well in Paris ? Has he reached the semi final before ?
What an achievement , what a year this has been
I think Milos is intimidated by Andy so let's all send vibes for a good strong start and get the champagne on ice ! Just dreaming of the moment at the O2 when he is announced as WORLD NO ONE

Last night I had a couple of glasses of wine before the match - it helped to keep me calm from the off. Thinking it might be a bit early for more of the same this afternoon but ....

What a chance for Andy. Cilic was our hero yesterday, today it will be Andy. Can't wait.

This is just potentially such a massive moment for Andy. Winning a grand slam... winning Wimbledon... winning Olympic gold... winning the Davis Cup... getting to Number One in the rankings. Andy has fought so hard for every one of those triumphs but this one is the hardest of all.

Even with the fact that Djokovic has been out or out of form in recent months does not detract for a moment - Andy's form since May has been just incredible. Apart from the US Open and the titanic match with del Potro in the Davis Cup, has he lost another match since the Roland Garros final?

And, whatever happens today, Andy's got so many potential opportunities to pick up points in the next 5 months as well. If he can more or less match Djokovic over that period he will have quite a cushion by next spring.

Will be keeping everything crossed!

He did lose to Cilic in the Final of Cincinatti, but he was exhausted post Olympics.......which was largely the reason for all 3 defeats since June.

Can not say how delighted I am. I think he would have won, but stress and the pressure might have been a factor. He has had so many duff cards in his life, (mainly called Federer and Djokovic), that he so deserves a bit of luck. Don't care he didn't play. Nobody can ever take this away from him. When he retires he will always be a former No 1 player.

I think he will win the tournament now. A rested Murray v John Isner no contest.

Raonic has a tear in his right quad muscle to accompany the tear in his ankle ligament and is doubtful for London which would mean he's replaced by Berdych.

I am actually pleased for Berdych. He looked devastated yesterday. With our man being No 1, I can afford to be magnanimous. It's the fact he has achieved it, and like his Olympic Medals and Grand Slams, these achievements can never, ever be taken away from him.

I have not followed him as long as you folks, but I remember Mr M's comments after the US Open 2012 Final, that had injury struck him down after that final he could have retired happy. Little did he know then that that win was just the soup course....!!!

I doubt he cares, if anything there might be a bit of relief. He has nothing to prove. He doesn't need to demonstrate any mental strength. He did that after the Wimbledon Final in 2012, and during that nerve shredding game in the Wimbledon Final 2013. He has been there and got the T Shirts. I don't feel any anticlimax at all. There was so much resting on that match, I wasn't looking forward to it. I am just relieved he has got it. Anything could have happened, to prevent it ever happening. If he hadn't beaten Raonic, he might have tripped over one of the dogs, or tweeked his back getting out of the bath like Fed. :-), :-), :-), :-).

And I don't go with the 'not the way he would have wanted' theme....surely he has done all the hard work which has laid the foundation to get to this point? All that hard work WAS the way he wanted. Yes, in some ways it is better because I could not see even Andy getting to number 1and then being unaffected by that in the final. This gives him the chance to win in Paris as well.
Even if he does not, it does not matter.
It all means that he will be that bit less tired for the WTFs and ideally can recover to do well in those.

And in an interview after his defeat, Nole said that he finds it hard to get the focus to win a number of matches in a row at the moment and is still resetting his sights after achieving the career slam.
Which to my mind suggests even more positive things next year.

So proud of you Andy. Thank you for the privilege of being your fan! :)

Am a bit overwhelmed with the feels at the moment. I was expecting an evening of nerves and murraycoaster only to find out Milos saved us from this by pulling out. Once that sunk in I realised Andy is world number 1️⃣!!! Just wow! I could not be prouder of him. He has always been my number one. I always knew he was one of the best players ever and now he has proved it by sitting on top of the world!

I knew he was something special when I first watched him play. He had a style of play and heart about him that I hadn't seen before. Have followed him through the many years of jumping scoreboard to live streams, through the highs and lows, the tears of heartbreak and then finally happiness! Andy has shown that if you keep plugging away, keep fighting, keep improving, good things will come! No one deserves it more than Andy! His team around him is special, those from past and present! Long may his reign last!

I still cannot believe I faced a shot off the current world number one! https://youtu.be/y0653LDk8pI

Just checked.... if Andy were to win tomorrow that would be his seventh different Masters title (his 14th in total) with only Indian Wells and Monte Carlo left to complete the Career Master Slam, achieved by only one person so far: Ivan Lendl! (Nole is one short).
In the last six years (except for tomorrow of course) the big 4 have won 50 of the 53 Masters titles. Worth repeating. 50 out of 53. The only others being Stan, Tsonga and Cilic with one each. Unbelievable really!

So some incentive there as well.

AND if he wins tomorrow he can no longer say that Paris Bercy is a tournament he has never done so well at! Another record and achievement!

Thanks Lynne, I've been trying to find it. Sky Sports News is preoccupied with football, and the BBC news coverage was, well, a little underwhelming.

It's better now. Took them a while to get something together. Try again. I have videoed the TV. If anyone not in UK wants it. I could try to send it, although it's a bit shaky. There is also a compilation on u tube.

Absolutely ecstatic for Andy, his team and for us! We've always believed he could do it one day, and the wait makes it all the sweeter. No one deserves this more, he has worked so so hard for this. Enjoy the celebrations everyone 😁💪👊🍷

This doesn't seem to give me the interview, just a clip of him hitting the ball. Is there a video clip of the interview anywhere?

It is wonderful in a way that Andy has achieved this today and in the interview posted below points out that it is the result of twelve months and Jamie has been with him every step of the way.
No mention of Ivan as coach yet!

Will be happy to see Ivan at the WTF and I still think he helps Andy, but I am glad Andy (and Jamie) get to do this without it having the "see the difference Lendl makes" comments!

Hi everyone. I don't know what was shown on TV but this is how events unfolded in the Arena:

We heard about Raonic after Isner won his match and were told that the doubles semi final would be brought forward by 45 minutes. About 40 minutes later Andy was announced with a fanfare as he entered the Arena unexpectedly - a lot of the crowd had left for refreshments. What was happening? Was it some sort of cobbled together exhibition match? No umpire in evidence, only ball boys Or was it to get congratulations on becoming Number One? Bizarrely, Andy then stood alone on court with his racquet. Who was his opponent we all wondered? Up stepped a bald guy not recognised by Parisians alongside me until I told them it was Jamie D! They had a good knockabout - good court time for tomorrow. Then Andy, bless him, played doubles with 3 of the ball boys and even gave them 3 of his racquets to play with. He won a lot of French hearts and minds then! He was such a good sport with the youngsters, the crowd loved it.
Judy was sitting there taking pictures of the overhead TV screen proclaiming Andy as Number One!

He has always been Number One to us all on here but now he is NUMBER ONE TO THE WHOLE WORLD!

Having won for the second time last year, I didn't really think Andy had a chance of winning SPOTY again this year but now I'm not so sure. There really can't be anyone more deserving, particularly if he finishes the year as world number 1.

It's all been said..no more to say except 'well done Andy...so very very proud of you and to have been a fan of yours for 10 happy, nail biting , frustrating, exhilarating years'. Thank you for the pleasure you have given.

I do think tomorrow is going to be special, there is no way he will let this go by without a trophy to flourish at the end of it all.

I think Mo Farah is deserving as well - interestingly enough he is only third favourite, behind our boy and Alistair Brownlee, the triathlete.

Mo has been nominated several times but, for some unknown reason, he doesn't seem to harness the public vote - well not in sufficient quantity anyway.

Well what an afternoon, I've just about come down to terra firma again. I was slightly in shock when I saw on Twitter that Raonic had pulled out. After all the build up to this afternoon's match it was strange to suddenly realise Andy had become no.1. But actually it it isn't sudden at all, this is what he has been working for and building up to for years. No-one deserves it more, what a man and what a champion he is. And better yet, he is OUR champion. Tomorrow I feel sure he will cement that no.1 spot by winning the tournament. Overcome by excitement I've just booked a ticket for the WTF Final on the 20th. No pressure Andy but I want to see you in that final.:excited: When I tentatively mentioned to hubby should I go he said "you love Andy don't you, well what you waiting for, book it". Anyway let's just savour this weekend and our amazing Andy getting to the top of the world

Hope the op goes well for you, Pat. Like you I've been reading all the posts and retweets on all the threads and just lapping it all up. I hope Andy is getting the message that so many people, including his peers, are so pleased for him and appreciate all the effort, pain and disappointment that he has gone through to achieve today's fantastic place in history. Can't wait for the final tomorrow. Having spent this morning feverishly gardening and cleaning the house to keep myself occupied until 3.30 kick off, I don't fancy repeating that so will just have to troll all the papers to reread how wonderful our boy is. Hint hint Bardot.;)
One poignant moment - I happened to land on an earlier page of Andy's Ranking thread and saw a post of Madeline's. How proud she would have been of Andy's triumph today.

Wow - congratulations to Andy - a great achievement- shame he didn't get to play today but tomorrow will see him in action and we can all recall all the ups and downs we have shared together on this forum over the years!
Never thought we'd get to see this day!
Proud proud proud!

Speak for yourself, HG!! :) Always thought this day would come, even back in the dark days of 2014 and even worse through the well-meaning but thoroughly depressing posts about how he's apparently going to lose his drive after fatherhood.. The fire that burns deep inside Andy, that drives him on relentlessly, never goes out and the number one ranking was never in doubt for me - always just a matter of when, not if.

Gosh yes remember earlier this year when people (not on here of course) were writing Andy off. They're very quiet today and rightly so. He's well and truly silenced them

I remember it well- 2 poor tournaments on his return after Sophia was born and he was being written off. Then he made the Monte Carlo semis- and since then has made the final of every event bar US open ! Nothing like a key proving the doubters wrong. I never expected much from Indian wells or Miami so wasn't surprised or concerned- but in my wildest dreams I could never have hoped for the run that followed. This year has truly been a privilege as a fan.

Yeah hopefully there will be some kind of ceremony or something today. Great news for us Murray fans with him getting to no 1.

I was in the arena yesterday and as you will have seen in the news (don't know if sky covered it or not) Andy came out for a practice with Jamie D and then had a 10pt tiebreak with 3 of the ballkids - who were v good and were delighted! Then they showed him a 'congratulations' video and he spoke to the crowd and did some interviews courtside - I saw Annabel floating around. Hopefully the French crowd will support him today as they weren't v supportive on Friday evening!

I had a busy weekend - was away with friends (not tennis fans). I warned them that I would be frantically checking my phone all afternoon. Conveniently we were sat in a pub, me with a G&T which I first checked the phone .... I screamed "Oh My God! Yeeessss" ... quite loud, a few people looked round. I would have liked to have been on here over the weekend but to finally see our number 1 at number 1 more than makes up for it.
