In the break before the 2017 season is upon us, with the complete dearth of tennis, (Champion's tour excluded), and given many of you have supported him since he was a teenager. What is your favourite of his many, many victories, and why - can be a tournament win or just a match?

I am in a quandary between London 2012 - claiming the main prize, at Wimbledon at his home Olympics, a month to the day after that heartbreaking loss on the same court, and claiming the Year End Ranking a few days ago at the O2, with honourable mentions to Wimbledon 2013 and beating Nadal for his first clay Masters 1000.

Decisions, decisions..........

So many, but Olympic gold 2012 has to be my favourite. His first major title. The context...4 weeks after utter heartbreak..same court, same opponent..could the hero pick himself up and write a different ending...such drama, could have been a Hollywood film. When I watch him get that medal, set to the beautiful song Alistair Griffin wrote for him I get goosebumps and know I always will. Best victory ever. :)

For me it still has to be the US Open of 2012. Having been a stalwart of the Henman era (you could kind of add in Rusedski, but his game was so limited and he only really had one great tournament, and he was Canadian!!) and the pain that threw upon us, I wondered if I'd ever see a British Grandslam winner. That wondering was finally put to rest in an epic match in 2012. That first set tie break will never be forgotten as one of the most brilliant periods of tennis I've seen.

For a random match to throw in too, I'll go for the victory over Federer in the 2009 Tour Finals in Shanghai. Just a magnificent match with one Federer service game (I think in the second set) standing out that went on for ages. Just a shame that the 3 hour victory meant he had nothing left for the semi against Davydenko 24 hours later. 7 years later and it would appear that 3 hour victories are the perfect warm up for the following day!!

First Wimbledon win for me! Watched Wimbledon since 9 years old & hoped & prayed through the henman years that a brit would finally win it but it wasnt to be, cried like many others along with andy when fed beat him in the first final. Will never ever forget 7/7/2013. What a very special day.

Davis Cup final has to get into the top 3 actually for me. That lob to finish the job, must be one of his top 10 shots.

I actually think the retrieval shot before was even better when it looked like Goffin had killed off the rally.

I have watched the Wimbledon 2013 final about twenty times and cried EVERY SINGLE TIME. There have been tonnes of stand out matches (saving all the match points against Robredo when he was trying to get to the WTF, and the amazing 2sets to love comeback against Gasquet at Wimbledon with the point where he ended up running into the stands...) but the Wimbledon 2013 final was perfect in every single way.
Every time I watch the match I just can't believe Andy won it - for the quality of the tennis it was a pretty good match, and the drama and everything.
Whenever I am feeling a bit down, I watch that match again, and it has never ever failed to make me feel better. Magical.

Andy's 2 set demolition of nole in Miami 2009, his biggest win up to that point and his rivalry with nole was obviously even at that stage was going to define his career he put in a performance that left you in. No doubt he was the real deal

Soooooooooo many cherished moments!! :bravo::GBflag::clap::clap::clap: All of them wonderful memories and I have to throw into the mix Andy's winning set against Nadal in Tokyo where Rafa only managed 6 points - what privileged fans we are!

Gosh it really is so hard to choose just one, my shortlist would have to include

Olympics Gold 2012, coming back 3 weeks after the Wimbledon loss and against Fed again
Olympics Gold 2016, just the sheer brutality of the conditions and battle between Andy and Delpo.Who could forget them falling into each others arms at the net
Davis Cup final against Goffin, for the joy of the win and overall achievement of the whole year/team
USO 2012, a first GS can't be overlooked

But overall favourite would probs have to be Wimbledon 2013. That final game went on forever, I was literally on the floor begging for it to end and then weeping when he won. It was literally a dream come true, not just for Andy but for me too

I don't know! Yes the first Wimbledon and the final game just added to it of course, but then the Davis Cup final match was so special. Now I wonder if this latest triumph has eclipsed even that. I also loved the Rio Olympics. Many other memories. :yak:

I couldn't possibly decide! I would need a tie break to decide the winner! All such wonderful memories and each memorable for different reasons, thereby making each win special. But I have enjoyed reading the recollections of everyone else...thank you Teresa for initiating this.
And also I would like to add that many of Andy's wins were history-making or set new records or were firsts etc. He has set very high goals for those following in the future.

Tough choice but think I need to agree with this - I remember so vividly the emotion I felt at the change of ends at 5-4 in the third, that was when I cried. Couldn't believe after all the years of watching and wishing that not only was a Brit about to serve for the Wimbledon title but it was Andy. But both Olympic golds, Davis cup, WTF, US open are also very close along with his wins in Shenzhen in 2014 when he finally found the way to win again after back surgery and also in Paris when he topped his no 1 ranking with the title. I loved his jump for joy at the end of that match.

I've got a few. 2012 Olympic final (because I was there), US Open final 2012, Wimbledon finals for 2013 and this year (I was there for both) and this year's World Tour Finals final.

I wonder what match Andy himself would choose? I have been filling the tennis void by revisiting Andy's book 'Seventy-Seven'. (2013) In light of everything he has achieved since that book was published some of his comments are really interesting. Back then he may have chosen Wimbledon 2013.....'...In my case, becoming the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years, it doesn't matter what I do now because that is what I'll be remembered for....' Do you still think that now Andy, I wonder! And then there's this....'...The number-one ranking does not motivate me....So my motivation isn't to be the best player based on what a ranking system says, but to perform in Grand Slams. That's what I train for and that's what excites me...' It will be interesting to read what he thinks when that book is updated as there is sooo much to add. It was also fascinating to read things about Dani and Lendl, particularly with the benefit of hindsight. Quotes from Chapter 9.

This is a real toughie but I agree with RB winning the Olympics in 2012 has to be right up there along with both Wimbledon wins, the US Open Final 2012, Olympics 2016 and, of course, the win at the 02 less than 2 weeks ago. I was only at the 02 for the whole match, although I had got on to Centre to see his law serve at the Olympics in 2012 and saw him get his Gold Medal.

So many to choose from but the first slam win at Flushing Meadows on 2012 was so huge. I was in tears the whole of the last game! Olympics 2012 was fab too especially after that excruciatingly painful loss 4 weeks before. Then the Wimbledon win in 2013 was just fabulous. Being at the Davis Cup final last year was just the icing on the cake for me. It was the best weekend of my life!

My favourite was his Orange Bowl win, can't remember the date but a long time ago. I watched this young, red haired, fresh faced Scot, playing some amazing tennis and thought we could actually have a British Champion in the making.

My personal favourite would be his 2013 Wimbledon win because I never dreamt of seeing a British man lift that trophy. However, for epic matches it would be his US Open 2012 victory over Djokovic to lift the trophy. And his cool admission of speaking to himself in the mirror telling himself he wasn't going to be beaten at the toilet break before the fifth set started.

Can't remember much about the quality of the actual match, and it can't compare with so many more recent achievements, but watching the final of San Jose 2007 was pretty special.

It has to be US Final win in 2012 for me also. Was so nervous in the final set and the last game I remember I was standing throughout willing him on then burst into tears as he sank down and covered bus face. I ran upstairs to wake up supergramps but he had watched it. He got up and we opened the bottle of champagne that was waiting for this moment. It was a momentous, joyful occasion and I'll never forget it. I was so happy for him. The Olympic Gold after the heartbreak of Wimbledon when I sobbed on the Hill is also memorable and of course his triumph in 2013 going through the agony of the final game and seeing his triumphant response. Can't miss out the D.C. Final and his determination to clinch it for GB. Tears again though didn't see the last point as everybody stood up to cheer. Lastly my unexpected visit to Centre Court to watch him win his second Wimbledon title. As I never believed I would be on Centre Court watching Andy win that was truly a never to be forgotten experience.:bravo::GBflag::gold::cheer: Almost forgot that epic match against Delpo to claim his second Olympic Gold. What a fight from both men, tears again especially when they both were near to collapse at the end. Happy, happy memories. Doncha just love being an Andy fan?:boogie::GBflag:

The best thing is that it's almost impossible to choose because there are so many! So many players get their one moment in time. Andy's had multiple. We must cherish that. ( I know we on here do, I really mean the wider we)

Andy has been involved in so many memorable and momentous matches, however I think a few stand out. For me in his first win over Federer in 2rd round of the 2006 Cincinatti Masters (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4797657.stm) was significant and I remember being so impressed with his talent and the maturity displayed as an 18 year old. Certainly I was hopeful he could be a big force in the game before then but this success (even though he eventually went out to Roddick in the quarters) aided his development. As far as best victories go very close between his Olympic, Wimbledon, Us Open and Davis Cup triumphs. The 2012 Olympics indeed was his first very big moment and the 2 Wimbledon wins were amazing, that tense final game before he eventually overcoming Djokovic took a lot of grit and determination and was historic! However the 2012 US Open probably was the toughest one to win due to the route and the nature of the match itself and it was his first Slam. This definitely required immense physical and mental strength and so I think probably just edges it in terms of performance.

However in terms of atmosphere and excitement the 2015 Davis Cup final certainly way up there and it was an incredible experience, however it is the only major triumph that I witnessed live as have not been at any of the Grand Slam or Olympic finals. The win at the 02 over Djokovic assuring him of no1 year end ranking was also awesome, but wouldn't put the World Tour Finals at quite the same level, however after the marathon semi over Raonic which was as long as some five set matches was also great achievement particularly after the long season.

Oh so many and I agree with all of them. But in all honesty the win that had Andy jumping and punching the air in sheer joy was the 2012 Olympic final...he was so elated, more so than the US open when he was just drained.

But there was a great match , tight 3 setter , that he didn't win, against Rafa at the ATP semis. When he came off court he simply said 'tonight is why I play tennis' and I was howling but so proud of him.
Then the one I always talk about when he realised the Wimby crowd were behind him when he came back from 2 seis down against Gasquet.

Yes, how lucky have we been to share these moments. Thanks Andy, and to all of us who have always believed

My favourite match to talk about :p is Andy's inexplicable loss to Coric (1-6 3-6) in Dubai last year. He won only 5 points against the Coric serve and delivered 55 UEs having the previously day thrashed Sousa 6-0 6-2. Would love to know the goss surrounding that one. :big grin:

You're right but it was lovely to revisit his triumphs once again. One win....the U.S. Open definitely. It was his first and many had doubted he'd win a Grand Slam. First four sets had me alternating between joy and anxiety and the fifth was unbelievable. Yep, that's the one for me. He'd done it!!:bravo::GBflag::bravo:

My favorite victory was on July 31st, 2010 at the semi finals of Farmers Classic 250 in Los Angeles against Feliciano Lopez. It was the first time I had watched Andy live. Andy had split with Miles Maclagan the previous week.

I watched him in practice with only a handful of other people there. I asked him afterwards if he would sign one of his Davis Cup shirts, that I had bought from Judy via the forum, which he did, with a smile. Aaaah. I later had my picture taken with him as well. I was on cloud 9.

The match was the usual roller coaster. He won the first set easily 6-0, but lost the second set 1-6 and finally managed to win the final set 6-4.

Although I agree with most of you on his other memorable wins that have had me sitting on the edge of my seat and in tears, this has to be my most memorable by the fact that I met him and was there.

Good choice, Angela cos it is personal to you. I'm torn as to what is my favourite as opposed to what in my estimation is his most important win. I'm going for DC final as my favourite because I was there and it was one of the best experiences of my life. My only regret was that I didn't have a smart phone so couldn't get a selfie with him! However the most important win in my eyes was US Open in 2012. If he hadn't had that conversation with himself during the toilet break I dread to think what the consequences might have been for his career (not in our eyes of course) but in the view of the great British press and public.

Caro

The question is 'favourite' Andy Murray victory .... so I'm going for the DC final win v Goff. Not because it was the best match but because of what it meant to me and that I was there. I had been following (and of course continue to follow) the GB DC team for 16 years and in that time had been to every single home tie plus quite a few away. DC is my absolute favourite live tennis and for all those reasons, that has to be my pick.

Two of my favourite were Shenzhen and Vienna in 2014. Saving 5 match points in each of those matches against Robredo felt like a real confidence solidifier when it came to Andy thinking he could return to the top of the game after a bad year and back surgery. He never gave up believing!

US Open 2012. I respect all the other choices of course, but ultimately top tennis is about Grand Slam victories and given what had happened previously in Grand Slam finals, this was the one that opened the door - never mind the drama of it all!

I have started writing a post on this thread so many times and every time I can't decide! My top 4......US Open 2012, Wimbledon 2013, Olympic Gold 2012 and Olympic Silver 2012! Now I'm stuck! When Andy won the silver in 2012 I was standing, in tears, in the middle of Keswick while my family and friends waited in a restaurant for me and I was so sure then that Andy would beat Federer in 2 days time. I was calmly happy when he did! It made me convinced it would knock every monkey of his back............He had beaten Nole and Fed 'when it mattered', beat them in a way to show him the loss a few weeks before he had been more than capable of winning and I just still feel this was his most import win. Ahhhh ok .........US Open 2012.......

It really is a tough question that one, there are so many contenders but I am going to go for the ATP final in November. Maybe because it was the crowning glory not only reaching No1 but given the unbelievable draw which put Andy in a group with the three players that had given him some problems recently, to then have to beat Raonic in three gruelling sets whilst Novak seemed somehow to have had another easy passage. I really didnt think Andy was going to win that one after the epics he had already played, and it would have been a travesty on that occasion had Novak prevailed.

Still pinch myself that that week happened! We always fly down Friday from work and go Friday night and all day Saturday then enjoy a London day before flying home. Couldn't quite believe as I toddled around the city that Andy was in the final - -and have never wanted to hug a check in person so much when they told me my flight was delayed meaning that barring a 3 hour epic I could see the whole match in the departure lounge bar. Such a change from all other trips when it was Novak we were watching (well apart from the time of the Novak Andy exho). So nice to be having afternoon tea in harrods with the 'final flutters' dancing in my stomach. Happy days!
