I wonder how much a year on the tour costs? Interesting how much e.g. Dan actually made.

I guess quite a lot, but a minimum of 1st round prize money in Melbourne is pretty useful for Kyle, Dan and Aljaz, hope they get more than that though

What you rarely hear about is how much appearance money there is sloshing around the game would be intesrting to see how that varies from player to player

If Roger has a similar year in 2017 to 2016, or even a bit less, he will go over 100 million dollars in career earnings! Wow!

Very, very pleased to see Jamie earning that kind of money as a doubles player.

In general, each stage - top fifty, top twenty, ten, five, four, three, two one (depending on time spent at each level) tend to be exponential increases.

The tour costs must be relative of course. At each level, you add a more permanent coach, then a physio, then a manger, and so on! And you will want better flights and accommodation to make up for the energy expended on court (half of the players in a main draw only play one match each tournament!).

There was an article mentioned here some time ago by Stakhovsky who shed a lot of light on the financial aspects of being a top 100 journeyman on the ATP circuit.

the significant increase for the first round in grand slam prize money would see any top 100 player cover the stated 75000 expenses for the year if they tooik up all four oppertunities

Note I believe this list only includes prize money, appearance money is on top ...........and also sponsorship/endorsements etcfound a nice if slightly nuts opoinion piece around the whole appearance money thing Tennis stars like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic only care about cash, (http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/opinion/65231157/Reason-Tennis-stars-like-Federer-Nadal-and-Djokovic-only-care-about-cash-not-fans) there are some brilliant comments rafa in particular comes in for some real stick

c Nadal is the biggest culprit because he was the player who lobbied for a shorter season with less tournaments, claiming the large number of mandatory tournaments harmed his body. Yet Nadal is the top player who has skipped the most mandatory big tournaments while showing up for many optional ATP 500/250 events and exhibition matches that pay him huge appearance fees.

In 2013, Nadal played (and won) a golf league tournament during the two weekends that he skipped the mandatory Australian Open claiming to be injured. That year Nadal also skipped the mandatory Miami Masters 1000. However, Nadal showed up at optional events where he was paid huge appearance fees including 5 optional ATP 500/250 events (Vina del Mar, Sao Paulo, Acapulco, Barcelona, Beijing) and 7 exhibition matches (New York, Necker Cup, Lima, Santiago, Cordoba, Buenos Aires twice).

In 2014, Nadal skipped five mandatory tournaments claiming to be injured or ill: the US Open, World Tour Finals, Toronto, Cincinnati, Paris. Despite this, Nadal showered up at several optional events where he was paid huge appearance fees including 6 ATP 500/250 events (Doha, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Halle, Beijing, Basel) and at least one exhibtion match (Astana, Kazakhstan in September). In 2015, Nadal has already played in an optional event that paid him huge appearance fees (Doha). In February he will be playing in the optional Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires events.

Djokovic played only two optional events (Dubai, Beijing) each season in both 2014 and 2015. In other words, Djokovic is least likely to play an optional event like Auckland even if offered appearance fees.
im sure the rafalites will tell you he had valid reasons for chasing the cash but still eye opening

I am wondering about the "push" and the "pull" aspect of this now. I wonder how much extra appearance money there is by not just being Andy Murray but World No. 1 Andy Murray?
