Andy's QF opponent is 31yr old Nicolas Almagro of Spain, currently ranked #44.
They've not played each other for nearly 3 years and Muzzah leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/andy-murray-vs-nicolas-almagro/MC10/A479) by 4-1. Andy's only loss to Almagro came at Roland Garros in 2008; a match I had the pleasure (!) of watching live ...

Ok thanks- that's what happens when you're taking down decorations and half listening to the comms (during verdasco match I hasten to add- was fully attentive to Andy (though clearly missed who he was playing)

Hello all can anyone advise me how I might watch this match? Will have to resort to watching on chromebook or phone...am not a internet wizz but the stream I have been using was poor yesterday and went off completely at the end of the first set today...very annoying.
Excuse me but it's Thursday the 5th tomorrow!

Hi Donald, it's being shown on Eurosport and there's a deal until the end of January - 1 year sub for £20 instead of £60. Believe they will also be covering Aus and US opens so well worth it

Rosie, thank you for this I will have a nosey that sounds very reasonable for the two slams alone.
The Very Best of Luck Andy!!!:thumbup:
All the best Andy! Play well and get the W.
Almagro was ranked in the top 20 (currently #44) in 2014 when he suffered a serious foot injury which required surgery and he was off tour for 8 months returning at the AO in 2015. His ranking dropped considerably and he's worked his way back playing a combination of Challenger and ATP events. Last year he reached the final of Buenos Aires & won Estoril with some notable scalps at both. He's had two good wins against Lorenzi and Kohlschreiber this week. He can be fiery and prone to ranting which is always fun. ;)

Yes it's a great offer. Snapped it up myself just before Christmas. I chrome cast it from my phone onto the TV. Excellent quality, can barely tell the difference between that and when I had Euros port through Sky
All the very best of luck, Andy
It looks baltic in the desert with everyone dressed like arctic explorers and a strong wind affecting the ball. What fun.

Just a bit like it is here today :brr:

According to the internet those hardy souls in Doha are currently braving a temperature of 16C! :fanning: "Taps aff" weather in Glasgow. It's just an excuse to use their cashmere rugs.
Novak wins, as usual. Andy now due on court.
Andy and Nico have just walked out.
A confusing coin toss which I think Almagro won and chose to serve.
Scoreboard indicating Andy to serve.
Almagro won the toss and elected to receive.
I think that's what you call a slow start, broken to love. 0-1
almagro won the toss, chose to receive, which has paid off, andy a break down from the off
Almagro saves 3BPs, that will annoy. 1-3
Amazing get at 15-15. 2-3
2-3 C'mon, Andy, now's the time to break back.
andy holds serve, but missed a great chance to get the break back, but Almagro too strong, held his serve from deuce
Almagro is dictating a lot of the points at the moment - Andy doesn't seem to have found his rhythm yet.
finally, kitkat andy, serving at 4-4
easy, holds to love, almagro at 4-5, c'mon andy, get the set here
0-15 C'mon, Andy, break for the set.
A pity, the wind held up the ball at 15-30. 5-5
Okay - not that time. Hold and break.
let him off the hook there, andy at 5-5, heading for a tie break?
This could be dangerous. Well-timed aces help tremendously.
Okay - that's the hold, now let's have the break.
held, from deuce, 2 great aces, but almagro playing great stuff, terrific pace into the corners
Big serving from Almagro. 6-6
Great shot - great start to the tie break.
Great defence forces the error. 5-1
Amazing defence again. 6-3
Almost back on serve there - great defence from Andy though.
First set to Andy in the tb :yahoo:
The Tie-break King reigns supreme. 7-6

Determined to make hard work of this
so, first set in the bag, tb held to 4. almagro serves first in second set
almagro has conceded the dubs, wasn't there when called?
That's pretty hard on his partner but, as Verdasco is still in the singles, I don't suppose he will mind very much.
Pity, had BP from 40-0 down. 0-1
Challenged ACE, love hold. 1-1
kitkat, c'mon andy, get it done prontissimo
Well played Almagro - break point. C'mon Andy!
almagro wins terrific net exchange
DF and it's back on serve. 2-2
almagro breaks back, to serve at 2-2
Almagro in front again 3-2.
3-3, andy holds from deuce
Andy's sarcastic laugh at the 3 wise men clapping in unison. :big grin:
The Almagro strut on show. 3-4
The FH on BP was disappointing. 4-5
almagro holds from deuce, andy missed a trick there, he'll serve at 4-5
Good hold - c'mon now, break!
I would have said that Andy is a good wind player but it is clearly bothering him tonight.
5-5, andy's serve less secure than it should be, too many serves hit the net
Did anyone else suddenly get adverts during the eighth game? It then went back to the match and Andy won the game.
5-5, andy's serve less secure than it should be, too many serves hit the net
I think the wind is affecting both their ball tosses - they've served seven double faults apiece.
Another bp - c'monnnnnn!!!!!!
Great shot from Almagro to save the bp.
There's the break now pleeeease serve it out, Andy - I have to start the dinner!
Now hold on for the win, Andy.
and finally, after 4 deuce points, adv andy, kitkat, so andy to serve at 6-5 for the set
Ace to set up another mp.
Andy wins a tricky match 7-6, 7-5 Well done :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
serves it out, pushed to deuce, ace from andy and great points from almagro, good practice
What a battle, same score as last night just slightly shorter. Great fight from Andy as ever.:clap::clap:
Another wringer of a match..........all good prep :halo: well done Andy!!!:knight:
Well done. Very tricky, but through in straights again. Can't ask for more than that. Better he has the long matches now than in Melbourne.
:dance::dance: Not easy but difficult, difficult conditions. Almagro was really going for broke.
Phew again! But conditions were very difficult. Again the opponent had to play his A game and Andy was mainly just defensive. But good enough to get the W.
"How brutal are you out there on court with yourself?"
How many points is he defending in Doha?
:knight: Well done Andy. Onwards you go
Andy third on C/Court tomorrow approx same time!!

Not one of Andy,s better performances, I thought his concentration was a bit poor, that said Almagro was excellent but in the end Andy did enough to get the job done. Andy will have to wake up a bit earlier in these sets against better players in days and weeks to come.

I swear he's in league with my hairdresser -adding greys by the game! That said these matches are, I feel, good prep for Oz.
Theresa he's not defending any points as he played hopman cup last year. Djokovic defending 250.

Everyone bringing their A game hoping to slay the king - that's the pressure and privilege of being no 1. Andy seeing them off without getting out of 3rd gear. Superb :clap::clap:

Must say it's mighty nice of ATP to host a tournament - and Eurosport to show it, while I'm off work. Most considerate!
Not an easy match to play in or watch but Andy toughs it out again. Like Alis, I would say that Andy plays well in wind but it did seem to bother him a bit today. Am now watching Jo W and Berdy and not sure which I want to meet Andy tomorrow. Berdy has just taken 1st set.

Certainly Andy been given a few tough tests and Almagro impressed but he didn't have quite enough to put Murray under real pressure , though had to fight hard. Suppose comes with the territory but Andy won all matches in straights, even if a few tussles. Not quite seen the best yet but these matches likely good for the system and a few more gears to come! At the moment Berdy set and break up over Tsonga but should be stronger than any of them!
