Shame; he would have been the No. 1 seed

Looking forward to seeing Nadal in action though. They seem to be mainly using his image to sell tickets

Rafael Nadal pulls out of Rotterdam (https://www.abnamrowtt.nl/en/news/headlines/44th-edition/rafael-nadal-pulls-out-of-rotterdam) on the advice of his doctors.

Won't look forward to watching this like I was before. Both Rafa and Stan out. Deprived of the two biggest names.

It looks like Andy got a call (along with the rest of the top 5 and Federer) from Krajicek to make up the numbers. Probably could've named their own price. Cilic is now top seed with Thiem (who has just lost in Sofia to Basilashvili ) second. How a field can bloom and die in 24 hours. ;)

Just saw this, so dissapoited I was looking forward to this tournie. But I am looking forward to seeing Berdy, goff and jo willie back. There are still many good players and good match ups. Hoping Goff gets the win. Berdy will be looking to make a start on getting back to the top 10 but with no 11, 12, 13 and 14 all in action I'm sure it will be on all their minds. Success here could change a few rankings with so many players close in points.

Also after losing out in their 250s theim and cilic will have something to prove

Even with all the withdrawals, still some quality first round matches in prospect.

Some nice things said about Zverev from theim. http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/thiem-rotterdam-2017-wednesday

I think it would have been a tough ask for Zverev to go deep this week after picking up his second career title last week and the win in the doubles. I would have like the win for him but it was a great match to watch with my dinner.

Rotterdam Berdy df gasguet 7-6 6-1 cilic currently playing coric and is a break up in the first set

JerryD
17-02-2017, 02:25
Rotterdam - cilic df coric 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 goffin also had a 3 setter df hasse 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. It was more straight forward for theim df Simon 6-4, 7-6 and Dimi df istomin 7-6, 6-1.

Tomorrow's quarter finals Berdy v klizan, cilic v tsonga, a rematch of last week's finals Dimi v goffin and theim v Herbert.

The other two quarters will be on later. http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/cilic-thiem-goffin-berdych-rotterdam-2017-friday

I have to say though I am hoping for a goff win. Dimi won last week it's only fair :)

Well Goffin off to a good start in set 3! I am neutral...like them both!

RosieBear
17-02-2017, 21:01
Goffin wins  I like them both too but Goff is a particular fave, so pleased he came through. Perfect timing too - just in time for me to watch the new foreign drama on More4.

Really good match. It's so good to watch 2 players who are as evenly matched as they are.

JerryD
17-02-2017, 21:49
It was a good match. So glad goff got the win after last week. It is his first win over Dimi. My guess is that his opponent tomorrow will be a theim and there will be another great match. Fingers crossed. I'd like to see goff and tsonga in the final.

Currently on serve in theim v Herbert

Surprised and disappointed really that Herbert put out Thiem, still great run for the Frenchman more noted for doubles. Would've preferred Dimitrov to come through but certainly fan of Goffin too, happy though Tsonga got better of Cilic!

roytennisfan
18-02-2017, 13:35
A win for Goff against Herbert today would not only take him into the ATP500 final it would take him into the top10...Go Goff!

JerryD
18-02-2017, 15:31
I was surprised by the win from Herbert. I was looking forward to a match between theim and goff. Just watched the tsonga v Berdy game. Berdy just wasn't very good at all, he didn't seem to believe, he has the winning record but his return game just there. No challenges really on 2nd serve. No break point opportunities for him. He needs to reasses what he's doing and find his belief. Looked very down walking off court. Great for tsonga though. Glad he is through, he deserved it. 6-3 6-4

Goff v herbert later.

patlowe
18-02-2017, 15:37
The first semi in Rotterdam was a bit of an anti climax. Berdy too erratic, Jo-W played well but was never really challenged. Only lasted 72 minutes.

JAMES4578
18-02-2017, 16:20
Not the best contest and Berdy was struggling, however still pleased Tsonga is in the final, imagine Goffin will join him though suppose he can't underestimate Herbert.

JerryD
18-02-2017, 19:42
Looks like it will be goff at the moment as he is 6-1 4-1 up

JerryD
18-02-2017, 19:43
Today's win from tsonga gets him up to 400 career wins http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/tsonga-berdych-rotterdam-2017-saturday

Another one sided SF! Goffin all over P-H! Looking forward to the final. Possibly a Goffin win?

roytennisfan
18-02-2017, 20:21
A really solid win by Goffin into top10 above Monfils, another win in the final would take him up to #8 above Thiem and Federer

JerryD
18-02-2017, 20:38
Looking at the live rankings today's win out goff in 10 and tsonga at 12. A win tomorrow for goff could see him up to 7 whereas for tsonga it would move him to 11 and back to the French number 1. Its hard to decide who I'd like to win most. But probably goffin if I had to pick. Really wouldn't mind if it's was tsonga though.

Seems like Herbert may be tired from his singles match. He and mahut are 3-0 down in the doubles

JerryD
18-02-2017, 20:39
Sorry Roy just saw this after I put mine. What I get for spending so long typing and then leaving it for a bit lol. I thought it was 7 he'd go up to

patlowe
18-02-2017, 21:02
Keith, aka Kei, has his hands full in B Aires at the moment. He is playing not only 34 year old Berlocq but most of the spectators as well who are, of course, 100% behind their man! Great atmosphere, bit like DC. Keith has just levelled the match, so it's 1 set all. Winner plays Dolgopolov in final tomorrow.

patlowe
18-02-2017, 21:45
Keith finally prevailed, thanks mostly to his superior shot making, but he really had to work hard for it. Entertaining match.

Teresa
19-02-2017, 16:40
Tsonga wins Rotterdam. 4:6, 6:4, 6:1 - pleased for him, simply because I have a soft spot for him, and he is not as young as Goffin.

RosieBear
19-02-2017, 16:44
Well done big Jo  better luck next time Goff

JAMES4578
19-02-2017, 17:14
I was quite pleased Tsonga won and he certainly turned it around, well done Jo! Happy David reached top 10 though and made early running, even if he didn't have great deal of resistance in the decider.

patlowe
19-02-2017, 17:33
And I loved both their speeches at the end! Jo-W so unassuming....how shy he looked when he held up the trophy.

Great comeback from a set down from JWT. I didn't really mind who won as like them both, good to see them both doing well

patlowe
19-02-2017, 19:49
And Dolgopolov has beaten Keith in 2 sets to take the B Aires title! Why did Keith play in that event I wonder? I didn't think clay was his thing? Perhaps I'm wrong?

Maybe to improve his clay game? He must have thought he'd get a few matches in here which he did.
