In Delray Beach Steve Darcis had just beaten Tomic 3-6 6-1 6-4. From 4-1 up in the third set, "Tomic the tank" lost interest, the next 5 games and the match. If this was a future's match in some out of the way place you'd wonder what was going. If Nadal was watching he might question his decision to play doubles with Bernie in Indian Wells as they're chalk and cheese as regards application although he already knew that.

JerryD

This didn't surprise me at all. Players get names for themselves and some are underserved but in tomic's case it is fitting. I think he gets in a mood about something (known only to him) and then throws in the towel.

I was glad milos got the win after his injury time. He was good and plays coric in the next round. http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/raonic-delray-beach-2017-tuesday

Bernie trying to compete with Nick??? On a more positive note Darcis is on a roll, almost back into the top50 after a year in the wilderness

What happened to Kei?

Bardot
22-02-2017, 15:48
What happened to Kei?

He was rubbish and that was in his own words. He even smashed a racquet  and said it was the worst match he'd played for years and it wasn't as if Bellucci played that well.

Ferrer also lost although it was to Dolgopolov who is on a hot streak. Daveed is at his lowest ranking(29) since April 2005.

Rio was already a weak field for a 500 and it's getting weaker each day. A chance for some to make a killing.

Jamie & Bruno play their first match in Rio today against Daniell/Demoliner.

Rio - so disappointed that ferrer lost early in a tournies again. He was beaten by dolgopolov 6-4 6-4. I wasn't surprised that theim defeated tippy but was sorry that tippy got such a tough early match whilst trying to come back from injury. He lost 6-4, 7-5.

The battle of the Argentinians had begun now, delbonis vs Schwartzman

Wonder if that means he overtakes Dan to return to being British number 2.

roytennisfan

No, he is still 37 points below Dan but would go above him with the 45 for another win...seems unlikely this time with raonic in his way, goes to Aculpulco 500 next week so gets a chance of some good points there but Dan is playing Dubai then

Did anyone see the Mahut/Gombos match? (Marseilles). I 'dipped' into it at the end of the second set as I haven't had the chance to see much of Gombos playing before and wanted to have a wee look. I'm glad I did! Set 3 turned out really quite fascinating! I really enjoyed it. Gombos finally won (3rd set TB) and I think this is his first QF at 250 level. He plays Kyrgios next!
I loved his interview afterwards esp when he said 'I was a little bit mad at me' (for failing to serve it out earlier in the match)!

theim df Swartzman 6-2 6-3, though he lead 5-0 in He second. He did hit what he described as the shot of his career in the first https://www.facebook.com/1.Dominic.Thiem/posts/1563137370367928

Delray - Raonic df Edmund 4-6 6-3 6-4 Kyle was great in the first set only one dodgy game in the second and too good from milos in set 3 . Mostly solid on serve in the third only dropping 1 point on first serve. He plays the winner of the Delpo match

Bardot
25-02-2017, 11:04
With Del Potro reaching the SF in Delray Beach beating Querrey 7-5 7-5 he's risen 10 places in the live rankings to 32 so should be seeded at Indian Wells meaning the earliest he could play a top seed is round 3 instead of round 2. Could be significant. ;)

JerryD

Well typical my hope was in vein as jo didn't win another game in that set. Nick held for 5-2 and broke to take the set 6-2 Tsonga did get the break in the third game of the third set though so hopefully he can keep it from here.
...

So far so good 4-2 jo

Gutted with the outcome of that one, I really wanted the win for gasguet but he just wasn't good enough today 7-5 6-3. Hopefully tsonga can take pouille tomorrow, jo is currently at 8 in the live rankings a win tomorrow could see him take 7th bumping cilic down.

Rio carreno busta df ruud 2-6 7-5 6-0. The third set was as one sided as it looks, no break points for ruud, poor stats behind first and second serve. CB was solid on serve and return. He plays theim in the final tomorrow.

Completely agree. It was experience that won out in the end. Ruud is only 18 and has 1 year on the pro tour compared to CB's 7 years. He will get there and it has been a great showing from him this week. He will jump from outside the top 200 to inside the top 150, a career high of 133.

Sadly for me and got Delpo it wasn't to be. It was a close march with only one break in the first and Delpo having three set points in the tie break in the second set. Raonic took it 6-3 7-6. He was more solid on serve, one of the main things that separated them was raonic's high % of first serve point won, helped by 17 aces in the match. He is through to his first final of the season, you would imagine he will be too strong for sock, the better match was the semi. Delpo seemed fairly happy with his play, despite the loss and is looking to improve his backhand next week.

Dom and hasse lost the first set after getting to 5-5. I t ally don't like this deciding point nonsense. It's one of the reasons I don't follow the doubles much. They lost the first set 6-4 and bennateau/ mahut serve first in the second.

So gutted that this is how it went. Really wanted Delpo to win and raonic came through that fine. I guess he did more damage playing on it and you never know how much until the next day. I'm no top athlete but I took a nasty fall when chasing my nephews round the woods last Monday, was sore, obviously, but thought other than bruises it was fine. Until the next morning when I woke up with a limp! I swear sleeping made it worse.

It's an even greater shame that Delpo went out now, but I wouldn't be too quick to judge raonic. It is a pre-existing injury that can and has flared up a lot lately. The American crowd got the winner that wanted and for a 250 they had a good tournament. This wasn't a final I was looking forward to. This isn't the worst withdrawal I've seen. A withdrawal from the final of the world tour finals where 18000 people had tickets, because you know you can't win and then you can rest for the DC, now that's the worst I've seen;) lol
