Better have a match thread for Andy's first s(h)ingles match in Dubai ...
(thank you Hawkeye)
:sirandy:
Andy plays Malek Jaziri, Tunisian currently ranked #51.
They've not met before so the H2H is 0-0.

I'm going by the ATP website which still shows the OOP as Andy playing Jaziri.

Which papers are you referring to? Please give a link to the source.

Eurosport and daily mail
I think you must mean the Daily Fail which, in the same article, states that Andy is playing Jaziri in R1 and GGL in R2 (having assumed today's result). Eurosport, who are equally inept, have probably just copied the DF ...
... perhaps their media people are practising for pancake day.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-4264520/Andy-Murray-suffers-doubles-defeat-Dubai.html#comments
Andy Murray, meanwhile, will turn his attention to the singles, where he is No 1 seed and plays Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round on Tuesday.
Murray (right) faces Tunisian world No 47 Malek Jaziri in first round of singles on Tuesday
Eurosport at least indicate they'll be following the match today.

All the best Andy! I trust you are well. It's on Sky Sports 2 at 3pm UK.

Just home
Good timing! Go Andy!

Me too, Teresa. I am ridiculously nervous about this match and it doesn't help that Andy doesn't seem to have settled yet.

Cmon Andy, get going, poor challenge by Jaziri but still gets bp and break
Jaziri has broken thanks to a lucky net cord.
Oh dear - not a good start. I'm consoling myself with the thought that Andy always takes a little while to work out someone he hasn't played before.
Is he defending any points here?
Having to make do with F/S and you good people; feeling ridiculously nervous!

Personally, I don't get the nerves, when Andy's healthy as he is now, this level oppo isn't a problem even when they're having a good day. I'll not be hiding behind the sofa unless/until Andy meets Fed :nailbiter:;)

Is it Barry Cowan who just said Andy plays in a certain way with players ranked below him. Erm, think that is all the players at the moment, Barry!

Where's Bardot btw? Feels weird without you B
Good hold - C'mon Andy :cheer:
Is he defending any points here?
No, last year he headed home after the OZ for Sophia's birth and stayed there for a while afterwards.

Thought Andy might break again but anyway seems back on track, comfortable hold now for 4-3!
A break now would be rather nice.
Pity - never mind, safe hold and then break for the set.
Jaziri is going toe to toe with Andy at the moment.
First set to Andy - 6 - 4 :yahoo: :yahoo:
:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo: First blood to Andy!
And what a super shot to take the set on. 6-4

Phew! (Not a big one, but enough to compliment Jaziri). Well done Andy! Now keep the focus of that last game, get an early hold break and hold and take it from there! C'mon Andy!
Nice play...Andy just easing his way into matches

Might've tougher than expected but Andy steps up to take first 6-4, keep it going!

Hopefully Andy will pick up in the second set, looked a bit rusty which is not surprising, took almost as long to win a set as Dan did to win his match

First set in the bag.
What a strange thing to do. Is he allowed to suddenly sit down in the middle of a game?

Going better now, breaks to love 3-1
0-40 back to deuce - c'mon Andy!
.............. and he finally gets the break. Serve it out Andy.
Woo hoo a chance to serve it out! Come on Andy!
Andy wins the match - 6 -4, 6 - 1 - well done :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Jaziri struggled somewhat in 2nd but Andy focused on the task hand mind you missed a few chances but finally got double break for 5-1 and served it out. Well done!:cheer::cheer::cheer:

Well done Andy, did really well in the second set
Good man. I should have more fairh in RB.
Well done Andy! Onwards and upwards. :knight:
Comprehensive win form Murray, a big of a test in the first set more than the second but a good work out for the next round. This win will add to his confidence but I agree with petch/Barry that Murray will want to improve his first serve in the next round :) go Murray!

Good win Andy. Go get 'em Champ.:cheer::cheer::cheer:
So good to have Andy back on court again. That was a good opener and a nice warm up for him with a degree of challenge. As for Jaziri, Bradnam kept speculating as to what might have been the matter...if he (Bradnam) had kept his mouth shut long enough, he might have heard Jaziri tell the trainer he was sick. At least I think that is what I picked up.
But the main thing is that Andy is on course! :bravo:
Glad to see Andy beat the crepe out of Jaziri on Pancake Day!

I think the doctor mentioned dehydration - definitely a possiblity in that humidity.

Yes I heard that too Alis. I expect that's why he felt ill. But wasn't it strange to suddenly sit down after he got the time violation warning? In the middle of a game?
According to the stats Andy won 15 consecutive points in the second set, that will get the job done. It looked incredibly humid in Dubai which is in contrast to the weather last week for the women. Assuming it remains like that, it could be an advantage should Andy meet Federer in the SFs.

Very strange, Andy looked really bemused. I don't think they should do this.
Did Sir Andy really show his backside to his mother-in-law? She was the one who told him about the shingles.
Have you been reading the Daily Fail?

Just caught up with the replay on TennisTV. Thought Andy looked pretty sharp considering it was his first match back after a layoff and being ill. Shame Jaziri was under the weather but Andy was always looking the winner
