Would love to go one day but too much other tennis to fit in! Not enough holiday from work or brownie points with hubby for anything else! Roll on retirement

I am working 3 days per week, so get the best of both worlds normally.

Strangely even though its a slam ive never really had much interest in going to RG...but since im doing A0 2018 i really should do it 1 year just to say ive done all 4.

Was that in the "Premium" sale that started today?

I'm thinking of trying for Mens semis or final tickets in the General sale or using the official resale.
I've already sold the trip as "long weekend in Paris, with a wee bit of tennis included" :roland:

Hi Jimmy, yes it was. Every year the sale for tickets gets later and later. I am away when they go on sale on the 22nd March. I think you have to be on the internet at 6 a.m. to stand a chance (used to go on sale early) and just wait in the queue. My partner would go nuts if I did that on holiday plus which the internet connection where we stay is totally unreliable!!! Third year I have bought a package. Not cheap but much more reasonable than Wimbledon. Sat very near Roger Taylor when I did it 2 years ago. Last year we had amazing seats on Lenglen and I have gone for that Court again. On Chatrier you could be a long way back. Are you planning on going alone or with someone? I have had Cat 2 and Cat 3 tickets for mens' semis. This year the mens 'semis are sold as separate events so not sure if you can buy both. When I was in Cat 2 my partner didn't come because the seats they were allocated were about 50 apart!

I was hoping to get to this one at some point but will be away for a lot of it this year. It is on my list for next year though so fingers crossed! Have a great time all who are going

Going with my partner for a few days in Paris so getting to RG would be an added bonus rather than essential to the trip.
Last year I bought Cat2 for the mens final via official resale, 3 days before the final.
There were blocks of Cat1 final tickets released 2 days before the final so might hope for that again this year, although the resale prices are a bit higher.

Premium tickets from 210 euros on sale now, 3 weeks till the public offering, max 4 tickets on show court, is anyone else looking to buy then?

Premium tickets for men's semis and final sold out, all others still available

17-03-2017, 10:15
I have tried and tried to buy, but cannot get through. I waited 1hr 37 minutes the other day and over 1 hr this morning. Have tried late at night and in the early hours too. Even contacted RG to ask if there was something wrong with my account. Got instructions for them but that is what I was doing anyway. Will have to give up! How have others managed?

roytennisfan

2 hours in queue and still 1937 to go, punishment for being 5 mins late!

Caro
22-03-2017, 13:38
Did you get anything in the end Roy?

roytennisfan
22-03-2017, 16:56
No selected 4 including the 2sf but when I tried to pay it bombed out. I was going to try again but it put me 17000 in queue and I was going out for lunch so ran out of time

Silverdee
22-03-2017, 16:58
A nightmare! Don't think I'll do that again. Everything looked so good - at 9.02 am I was 5,760 in the waiting line and got onto website at 9.32. Things went wrong after that, unfortunately I had changed my mind whilst waiting and went for mens final tickets instead of final passes. Mistake! Little tennis balls whirred around until 10.30 am when I lost patience and pressed the back arrow to find that final tickets sold out. Went for Passes then but didn't seem to connect, kept pressing, thrown out, language changed to French etc. Eventually I got through to semi final Passes but that was it. I left the tennis balls whirring whilst I did some housework, made lunch, went out to play bridge and when I got home Lo and behold the balls were still whirring around. I clicked back button to be told that they were sold out. Can't understand why the site lets you just sit there waiting to connect when things are sold?
Well done Jimmy G. Do you think I was doing something wrong?

roytennisfan
22-03-2017, 19:09
Did it happen to you after you put in payment details, it bombed out for me ...some error and so i went back and then I got the same as you, tennis balls kept going round, after 5 mins I gave up and tried again...but was at the back of the queue

Silverdee
22-03-2017, 19:41
I never even got that far. All I managed was to select the day and court and then was taken in where tennis balls circling on a grey screen and that was that. Never got any further!

Silverdee
22-03-2017, 19:45
Roy, do you think it could be to do with my slow broadband that I never got very far? Fibre broadband coming next week!

roytennisfan
22-03-2017, 21:12
Roy, do you think it could be to do with my slow broadband that I never got very far? Fibre broadband coming next week!

It shouldn't do if the site is ok but fibre will always help. I'm on fibre and mine still didn't go though, normally it helps if you are in a race to get in for tickets, once we had got in, we shouldn't be having these problems

Silverdee
22-03-2017, 21:58
That's what I thought too. Once I got in I thought then that it should have been plain sailing.

Silverdee
23-03-2017, 03:58
I decided to contact R Garros as I think there has to be something wrong with my account and their website. Will let you know their response.

JimmyG
23-03-2017, 11:24
I got past the queue around 9:40, site was fairly responsive for me as I tried a few times to select mens final tickets then went for finals passes instead.
Payment stage seemed a bit slow but worked first time.

I decided to contact R Garros as I think there has to be something wrong with my account and their website. Will let you know their response.

Which browser and version are you using, they did have a note that saying an outdated browser may cause problems

Silverdee
23-03-2017, 17:51
As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't believe it!". JimmyG, I have just told my sister, Tennisfan, what you have said about the browser etc and I was using my IPad, the old one, version 4, and she says that is what the problem is! She has gone off to do some research.
I hadn't seen the Notes and Tips from Roland Garros and If only I had used my computer, if only. I had also kept it a secret from Tennisfan so she didn't know the problems I was experiencing - it was to be a surprise for her birthday which is today. But I love using my IPad so now going to upgrade to the latest model. Will try for tickets again next year.

Thank you JimmyG for solving this problem.

That's great news Roy. I did see people having a row on twitter about the problems. I'm glad you'll get tickets. Only a little jealous :)

Silverdee
24-03-2017, 11:46
I have let Roland Garros know that it was a fault at my end. I think if it had blocked me to begin with I would have suspected the fault was with me but it let me choose a court and select a day and only then did I get stuck. I switched on my laptop last night, logged in and got right through with ease having selected anything that was available just to see what website was like. Very impressed, particularly with the view from your seat facility, didn't book anything though.

When Tennisfan comes to stay for Wimbledon we are going to go to the Apple shop to look at IPADs. I have to wait until then because I will need to get her to set up the whole thing for me, including things on my IPad 4 now. I had no idea what web browser my IPad was using as I just expect to switch it on and use it. I am not a great one for having the latest model of everything and I know my resolve will waiver but I will just have to say 2 words "Roland Garros" to keep me focussed. I am lucky that I didn't have a problem with Ticket Factory and DC tickets.
The mobile phone I use is my trusty Nokia 3410 Pay as you Go purchased in 2005 so you can see the sort of mindset I have with regards to technology.
Well, will be ready for next year.
Glad you are getting tickets Roy, perhaps you might even end up with better ones.

Sorry to hear you guys had problems with the site. It has happened to me in the past. Thought it was a cheek they had split the men's semis. Would stop me going on that day now, although the first match can be the better one. Trouble is with Chatrier if you are in Cat 3 tickets, it can seem an awfully long way from the court.

Caro
27-03-2017, 19:58
I'm sure if you've never been to RG (which I haven't) just being there is exciting however far away from the court you are! I remember my one and only trip to a GS outside of Wimbledon ... the USO and being right at the top of Arthur Ashes stadium. The players are like ants and if you didn't know who you were watching you certainly wouldn't be able to tell ... but just to be there in that court was so exciting!

themass15
27-03-2017, 20:20
I was in the back row of Chatrier for the semi between Rafa and Djokovic which I think was 2014. One of the most exciting matches I have ever had the privilege to be at but I tend to go for Lenglen now and try and get near the front.

JerryD
27-03-2017, 20:48
I went to see Yes in honour of my dad, because they had a 35 anniversary tour around Father's Day 18 months after he passed. I sat in the highest seats as it was all that was left when I went to buy, and at 18 I couldn't afford much better anyway. Anyone whose been to the Manchester arena will know that those seats are not for the faint hearted. But I was happy to be able to go and to experience it regardless. It's the same with the WTF, luckily I can afford the lower tier but if I couldn't I'd go to the top tier rather than miss a year, even if it's just one match. I have only ever been to wimbie out of the majors, but if I was lucky enough to go and ended up in the heights I think I'd still just be over the moon to be there. Especially if it was the first time. This year can't be my year but fingers crossed for next year :)

Whilst it is elevated, it is nothing like the distance away at the back of Flushing Meadows for example, probably the same distance (but higher) as back of east stand at Queen's
