Good Lord! Eating early as going to a (appropriately) tennis club committee meeting. That can't have been good for the digestion! Andy v Kholi matches generally tight, remember a 4th round at Rolly G, Munich final then Madrid r1. What fight and concentration they both showed in that tiebreak. Warrior Andy!

JerryD

Mega athletes both of them, playing such a great tennis and giving everything. Ks had been criticised for not doing so before, but he is playing the match of his life. When :) Andy wins ks should be chuffed to bits with this performance regardless. Huge applause for both. What a great match!

What.a.match. Was expecting a highly entertaining encounter but that was an absolute classic. Unforgettable. Total respect to both players. Kohli is an unbelievably classy player and today is no fluke. This match contextualises Andy's awesomeness in being #1 when there's such depth in the game.

From the part of the match I saw, that will do wonders for Andy because he knows sometimes people play out of their skin and you lose, but he played somebody today who did but he did not lose!

Andy has got to feel very satisfied with that match - I hope Kohli does too.

I wish I had recorded it - that would be a great match to watch already knowing the result and without the adrenaline running riot!

I'll remember that match for a very long time! Neither player lost his cool and both played like true sporting champs. Loads of admiration for Kohlschreiber. But such relief that the No 1 in the world proved why he is there. Love you Andy!

Well at least when the beeb do it they have both channels running the tennis for a while. Sky didn't.

Like Theresa, I thought Kohli had won the set 2 tie break as that's what it showed on the ATP livescore app. Promptly switched my phone off very disappointed and concentrated on being sicked on by my 11 week old granddaughter! Only discovered the result whilst checking Facebook on my way home and couldn't believe my eyes. Have since read through the brilliant comments on here - thank you all - to get a sense of what happened. Can't wait to watch the recording later. Amazing, what a champ! So very happy now, especially as I can actually concentrate on tomorrow's match. I hope Judy wasn't watching but I don't think she does - would have aged 10 years :nailbiter::dance::cheer:

Fantastic win from Andy and kudos to Kholi for making our champ work so hard for it. He usually gives Andy a hard time but I've never seen him play with such accurate aggression. Amazing commitment from both of them. I'm watching Pouille v Donskoy now and would like it to last another 2 hours please.

02-03-2017, 20:48
So in the 3rd game 2nd set, Andy had to move out the way of a serve that bounced off the top of the net.
So if he hadn't and it had hit him would he have lost the point on the basis that he made contact before the ball bounced?
If so isn't that a bit silly?
To be deemed to have played the ball when only a fool would take it on???

Just finished watching Andy's match (on catch-up) and have managed to pick myself up from the floor so now I can holler...whayyy-hayyyy!! :yahoo: Well done our Andy! He was determined he was not going to lose that one! What grit! But then that's what #1's do!! Kohl sustained his level very well and it turned out to be a very classy match. So well-played to him too. Easier to say that when Andy has won!! But TB's! :nailbiter:  I have come to dislike them a lot but, is it my imagination?, there seems to be a lot more of them these days. The second set TB was nearly as long as a full set! But bottom line, a great match and so happy Andy is through. A good test for him. :bravo::bravo:

Watched recording as was at funeral and then working. Watched that tie-break on multi fast forward between points, just about dying each time - my husband got totally fed up with me and went off to have a bath. Then 3rd set also watched pretty fast. Then Andy gets double break - great - and they say we need to turn over! So of course my recording was finished and I didn't get the catharsis and glory of seeing Andy actually win! Drat and double drat!!

When my husband came back, I did explain it was a 31 minute tie break 20-18 (longer than the whole of the 3rd set!) and Andy saved 7 match points - so he was a bit more understanding.

Tennis was amazing. Well done Andy :boogie::yahoo::dance:

Hope he's OK for tomorrow. Pouille's legs are a lot younger - but so is his brain so hopefully Andy will be too smart for him.

Don't know if this goes here but great interview with Andy saying how important a win like this is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqXqiUtcozg#t=102.375844 (yes the ATP interview is also on Youtube but I think Andy is "rawer" on this one!).
Oh and ATPWorldtour pointed out it was a record-equalling second-set tie-break: "The second-set marathon equalled five other epic tie-breaks of the same score since tie-break scores were first kept in 1991"

Lucky enough to watch this live last night. Fair to say we've all watched a lot of Andy over the years, so it's pretty unlikely that a QF in a 500 Tournament could go straight into the top ten of memorable moments. But I doubt any of us will forget that tiebreak any time soon, not just for the length of it but the quality of tennis it produced. I actually found myself applauding a couple of rallies won by Kohlschreiber, they were that good.

Fantastic match, now to go on and win the thing.

i had to laugh - as soon as the match was over Mark Petchey said 'that's the kind of match you just want to sit down and watch again straight away'.
1. i don't have 3 hours of time spare.
2. I wouldn't have any nails left.
3. I'd be worried that Kohlschreiber would convert one of the match points
