Means DelPo will be seeded again, #34 in live
Thanks to Jo-Willy's seed, Delpo will be the 32nd seed in Miami. :p
No chance of a rematch for Andy with Pospisil as he's playing a challenger in Mexico, apparently he doesn't like the humidity in Miami.
The draw is scheduled for Monday at 4pm UK.

See 18yo Ruud Casper one of 5 different nationality WCs with Bellucci, Mmoh (19), Rublev and Ymer, another 18yo. Pleased to see they are giving international youth a chance
And we thought it was Andy who had the elbow problem.

Oh dear. Not good. So nothing from these 2 Masters and then a zillion points to defend. Hope this is not too serious and Andy can come back strongly. So is Djoko injured too or not?

Andy certainly had a lot of flesh coloured taping right round his elbow in Indian Wells. It was not very noticeable but I stopped my recording when he had his back to the camera and so had a good look at it.

Did he injure it in the doubles? That's when he started shaking his arm out.

To be confirmed ...
Rats! :crying: I don't think it's really a surprise though, given the amount of arm shaking in Indian Wells. Even though he won in Dubai, I don't really think Andy has been right since the beginning of the year. It is a shame that he won't be able to bag those extra points but - hey - it's better that he gets himself fit and ready to stage a major assault on the clay court season. :knight: Now if Fed were to give the clay a body swerve this year that would be really good news. ;)

He didn't have many to defend in Miami either did he?
Josephine
18-03-2017, 17:32
Yes but lots to gain and he needs them for the race.
There's loads of time yet for Andy to add to his race total. It's unfortunate but much more important that Andy gets himself fit. Am I right in thinking that an elbow injury is probably less problematic than a wrist injury?
Andy has been practising each day since he's been in Miami so assume it's precautionary. I wonder if the decision has been influenced by the rumour Djokovic is not going to play Miami. I suppose it's preferable (if that's the right word) to withdraw from a tournament where he's not defending points than from one where he is. It's 3 weeks until the DC tie and 4 weeks to Monte Carlo.
murrayfan89
18-03-2017, 17:38
I don't know how much I am going to watch with Andy out of it. I'm not really a fan of much of the other players on tour these days.
Has he been seen practising? I had read somewhere that he hadn't, which made me think that he might not play.
I wonder if he will go back to Barcelona to practise on the clay as he did a couple of years ago.

Perhaps he might rest in the sunshine with Kim and Sophia. That would do him good for a few days before he hits the devil dirt.

Just gutting but I guess for the best, important Andy is fit for clay court season. Pity though as it looked like he was bound to gain points from the American hard court swing not so long ago. Djokovic's withdrawal still not official as far as I know, Sky saying likely.

World number one Andy Murray has pulled out of next week's Miami Open because of an injury to his right elbow.
A lacklustre Murray lost to Canadian world number 129 Vasek Pospisil in the second round at Indian Wells last week.
The 29-year-old Briton, who won in Florida in 2009 and 2013, said: "The focus is on getting ready for the clay-court season. Apologies to the fans, it's one of my favourite tournaments."
The Briton will be replaced in the draw by world number 136 Taylor Fritz.

Is that definite? If so at least Andy gains another 955 points to add to his 3,090 lead which would mathematically guarantee #1 to after Roland Garros (at least!!!!!!)
Hmmmm just checked. Says he's "in doubt" for Miami also due to elbow injury! Maybe he'll play now Andy's withdrawn or alternatively feel more comfortable about taking time out to recuperate.

Andys own Facebook message says right elbow so ....
Poor Andy - he seems to be fated. Every time he hits the heights something comes along to bring him back to down to earth with a resounding bump. When he won the London Olympics, the US Open and Wimbledon in quick succession I thought he was riding the crest of a wave and would carry on winning. Then - bang - we had the back surgery. Last year, he had the fabulous run to the year end number one spot and I thought - wow - this really is Andy's time and then - bang - he had to cope with shingles and now an elbow injury. Still I suppose, the lows make the highs all the sweeter. I just wish he could have a clear run at a winning streak for once.
Stell is talking about Nole, no?
Oh, I see - I'm a bear of little brain I'm afraid!

Agreed Alis, must be soo frustrating for Andy. But, looking on the bright side, at least shingles and this injury is no where near the level of disruption caused by major surgery. Hopefully Andy recovers quickly, starts 2017 proper, and builds momentum again. A few good wins and he'll be back in the groove, ready for the clay season, esp RG :peace::thumbup:
The draw is at 12.30pm local time tomorrow so maybe Djokovic is waiting to see what he gets before withdrawing. ;) His first match wouldn't be until Friday at the earliest so it may be sufficient time to recover. Pulling out after the draw has been made might raise eyebrows as it would impact on the seedings like Federer (assuming he wins today) being 5th instead of 4th seed as Djokovic's position in the draw would be taken by the next highest unseeded player. If Djokovic withdraws after play starts on Wednesday then he would be replaced in the draw by a lucky loser.
Perhaps he is just waiting to see if it does ease. If he is planing on playing DC in Serbia it is on hard court he didn't need to worry about a surface switch from hard on Miami to DC as Andy does. I hope he is able to play though. I haven't heard anything so I presume milos is also sitting out Miami? Any ideas?
Miami Open has posted pictures of Raonic practising but then they also did the same with Andy. ;)
Fingers crossed this time it's results in the player actually playing lol

Here you go.
I have some very disappointing news to share with you regarding the Miami Open tournament. My doctor has strongly advised against play because my elbow injury, that I keep carrying on for months, got worse in the past week. I will do everything in my power to recover and do all the necessary therapy to be able to return on court as soon as possible. Sadly, I won't be able to defend my title in Miami this week. Believe me, it is as shocking to me, as it is to you. I had incredible run in Miami, I won there my first masters tournament and started my campaign towards the top of the world rankings. No wonder they say that in sport the biggest and most painful defeats come from injuries, and not from opponents. I am lucky that throughout my career I didn't have many injuries, but I guess that all that I've been through physically in the past so many years did leave a mark on my body. I remain eternally grateful for all the love and support I receive from you. Thank you for believing in me #NoleFam
Just for you sweetie.

I know monfils has also withdrawn but I cannot find the reason, with the DC on the horizon I was just curious. It seems that despite withdrawing from IW citing personal reasons, Simon will be back in action in Miami and as of yet there is no word from the milos camp.
I'm surprised Fed was surprised Andy withdrew from Miami as his Swiss sneak had already forewarned him (https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/20/sports/tennis/roger-federer-bnp-paribas-open-elena-vesnina.html?smid=tw-share&referer=https://t.co/ukRk8ihR9I). :p

Yep, didn't see Hev but pretty poor show from Dan and Kyle. Both should have won, esp Dan who was head and shoulders above his opponent when he played like we know he can. Big opportunity missed by Dan and Kyle -to automatically be in the main draw of a big tournament with a winnable R1 draw is gold dust. Tbh they both deserve a big kick up the bum.

Probably can't be helped but Raonic certainly prone to injury. Disappointing Thiem went out yesterday to Coric but lost the plot a bit in the 2nd in rain interrupted match, whilst Ferrer's woes continued.
Kyle will be reliving those MPs he missed against Donaldson.
Nadal's tricky quarter which originally had Dimitrov & Raonic now only has Sock as the other top 20 player.
That's the way it goes sometimes.

I was thinking exactly the same, Kyle really needed a run to boost his confidence and all those points gone begging, the chance of him getting enough for a Wimbledon seeding is diminishing
Poor milos. Being young I think he keeps rushing to return before he is ready. Anxious to make his mark. It seemed too soon early so I was surprised when he didn't withdraw from this one
Nadal's tricky quarter which originally had Dimitrov & Raonic now only has Sock as the other top 20 player.
It's even better for Nadal as the only other top 20 player in the bottom half of the draw is Keith who's in a dogfight with Verdasco.
Poor milos. Being young I think he keeps rushing to return before he is ready. Anxious to make his mark. It seemed too soon early so I was surprised when he didn't withdraw from this one
yeah , think he should take an extended leave , and get his body back to as close to 100 % as possible !!!
Poor Guy is gonna be plagued by injury I think , and a shame really , cause he has such potential :(
It was the same injury as well just feeling it slightly higher up. I think he can get a handle on it if he gives it the time it needs. So not back to match play only 4 weeks after it. Looking forward to nadal kohli later :)

Hmm. A bit disappointed with that match. I didn't think it would be that easy for Federer. I think Delpo looked a bit under par tonight.
Maybe Delpo's wrists really were a factor in that match.
Delpo was below par compared to his recent form, I think his wrist did play a part in some of his serving problems but he also made a number of errors. He has said that he sees every match from coming back after injury as a bonus. He's not looking for ranking or majors, just happy to play. That is a very positive outlook and it is good to be grateful for what you have, but sometimes to find another level you need that pressure and hunger. If he can't then he will gradually climb higher but I think he could struggle to get back to his best and back to the top of the game.
Nick gets the break in his match against karlovic and will serve for the first set
Nick took the first set in 34 minutes 6-4 isner is on serve against alez zverev on stadium
In a breaker in the second set for nick and karlovic 2-2
Mini break for karlovic 4-2 nick mumbling away to himself
Karlovic takes the breaker and they go into a third set .
Isner took first set against zverev in a breaker and they are at 5-4 on serve in the second
Karlovic matches can be entertaining, just needs to play Kyrgios each time. ;) Nick had 7 BPs in the second set and didn't win one. His patience is being sorely tested but so far only 1 thrown racquet.

A calm head sees Kyrgios through the TB 7-2.
In the absence of Andy, I just want Nick to play every match until he returns. ;) He's so good to watch. :shades:
I was pleasantly surprised at how well nick held it together. Only a few moments of frustration came through. It must be so hard to play someone like karlovic and not give into to frustration. Nick stuck with it and seemed to be able to enjoy it. I believe him when he says he was been training hard and working hard on the mental side of the game. It was nice hearing him thank his family and Hewitt for getting him through a dark time. He has really matured.

The one disadvantage of tennis tv is that they don't show interviews at the end of matches.
I was surprised when sky showed his one tbh as they didn't bother showing federer after his match. They used to interview all the winners whose matches they had shown. Now it's very hit and miss
Yikes 5-6 down at the end of the third set is not a good time for a double fault baby zverev!
Now into a third set tie break. The third tie break of the match!
6-5 zverev in tie break come on zverev !!
Match point on a second Serve ... and he take it!!! Go baby zverev!! Saves 3 match points an hour ago and now takes the match!
Well done Sascha but poor John looked so down. It seems that's the third match this year that he has lost on a third set tie break.
What a dog fight! Sascha hung in there really well and toughed out the win. Impressive!
goffin a break down against Schwartzman. Hopefully he can get it back but Schwartz looks really good. Come on goff! Serving 3-1 down
Goff holds but after 30 mins he's still a break down 2-3

Goff lost the first set 6-4 and served for the second at 5-1 but dropped serve :( now at 5-2 in the second

Certainly a few tussles, glad in particular that Sacha won, also good for Kygrios and Goffin.
Ended up watching goffin to the middle of the third set but tiredness won out. Tried checking the score on the app before I fell asleep but it was still saying it was the second set. Happy he got the win. Sat. Came through in a pretty straight forward match, though he was a bit up and down himself.
I am getting less good at staying up when I have to be up at 5.45! i hate missing all the good matches and replays are not the same .... but needs must. I will still get up for Andy though especially in the Grand Slams :)
I was waiting up for to hear from KevD anyway. Though after getting up 5 1/2 hours after going to bed I'm feeling it today.
Nishikori and fognini both through to quarters and play each other next
Sock and nadal both through and play each other in the next round. It was a much better performance from Raffa, really solid on serve.
Now for wawrinka zverev. Really hoping baby zverev can take this one :) but will settle for a great match
Forgot to say that Berdy won a fairly straight forward match against mannerino last earlier and plays the winner of fed V BA which is on the stadium court now

Roberto breaks!
Shame he then had such a nervy game to be broken straight back. Pleeeese hang on in this game to make it 6-6!
First set to fed on a tie break in his match.
Wawrinka took the first set in his match with one break but babyZ is a break up in the second. 2-0
After a getting a double break babyZ only needs one of his 3 sets points to take the second set 6-2
Opening game of the third set and babyZ gets the break!
Still on serve in fed v BA second set
BabyZ is 4-0 up in the third set
babyZ has and drops his first match point at 5-1 on stans serve but has another
And he breaks again for the win GSM Zverev. Not a great birthday for Stan but babyZ was fantastic! He should be really proud. He will play the winner of goff v nick
Wawrinka doesn't get sufficient recognition for the number of occasions he tanks a set, this was another one. :hmm:

Great win for Sachs with breadstick in final set over Stan, well done! Another breaker for Fed and 3-00 up so could be straights set win over Bautista Agut but had bit of a challenge.
BA and fed in a second breaker. Fed has the mini break 3-0
Just realised sachsa won every point behind his first serve in that third set!
BA taken quite a beating in this tiebreak. 4 match points for fed but BA still manages to hold it off
Yikes what a miss from fed 2 mp left
He takes it in two tie breaks and nearly two hours. Well done to both guys, great and competitive match
Thanks for all you reports, Jerry. I'm too tired to stay awake myself so I do appreciate it.
Sadly the goffin v nick match not only didn't go my way but it also wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I recorded it last night and watch it this but morning (whilst waiting for a furniture delivery lol). It wasn't that either guy played poorly, they were both great. It was jut the way it went.
The first set both served well and no one seemed to really make an impact on the other. There were lots of short points and fast balls. Goffin started to make a little more of an impression but getting to 30 is not massive. It just felt like it was o my heading to a tiebreak. Now sometimes that is the result of a great match. Like the fed match yesterday. But this didn't feel like that, it felt like just waiting for a toss of the coin to see who got the set.
Goff blinked first with errors and nick took the set. I wanted a win for goff admittedly but still like a good match and I just didn't get into that first set. The second set was much better, with lots of trips to deuce on both sides it felt more like a match. Despite nick winning that set far more convincingly I still enjoyed it. Congrats to both guys and particularly to nick for holding firm and getting the win. He plays babyZ in the next round.
The match did make me think about the year so far though, the word from everyone is that the hard courts have all been faster. The plan (from discussions last year), was no doubt to speed up matches and stick to the schedules. Probably a result of pressure from Tv. There is no doubt that these faster courts have produced some more aggressive tennis. But for me personally they have produced far more sets like the first set here than great matches. Easy holds, aces, fast serves and short points. Sets that I struggle to get in to. I preferred the longer points and more athletic running tennis of the slower courts. Now that's just me. Everyone is different and tennis changes.
However this season these courts have seen bigger wins for the big servers (such as querrey), they have seen far more tie breaks and though some great matches, on the whole a lot like this first set. Tie breaks that aren't all ingesting but just a waiting game to see who blinks first. Some tie breaks can be great - like in the fed match. But that isn't true for all of them. I think we have missed the balance between the fast and the slow. I find myself looking forward to the clay more than ever before, for a little less service winners and a few more long points. And Andy of course!
That's really interesting, Jerry. It was precisely because of the big servers on fast courts that I lost interest in tennis in the Sampras era. Ideally, I think we should have a mixture of court speeds throughout the year but, given that the majority of tournaments are played on hard courts, I would certainly lament a return to fast courts at every hard court tournament. My husband, however, takes the totally opposite view, so I suppose they can't please everyone!
I agree with both of you. I don't like big servers or short points. I prefer the long points that you get on clay.
Just got home , what the heck is up with KEI ????
He had a number of medical time outs in his last match. More than I'm happy with to be honey. I do think MTO are a good idea but when there seems to be something going on at every change of ends it's feels a bit much
Confirmation from Peter. Seems kei is injured. Watching him he can't seem to serve or move well

Yep Fognini into SF
Nishikori had treatment for a knee injury in yesterday's match and apparently received treatment on his right wrist before today's match.
Of the current top 5, only Wawrinka isn't injured although he played like he was last night. :p Nishikori drops to 7 as he was defending runner-up points and is replaced at #4 by Federer.
There was an interesting article in The Telegraph today about the injuries experienced by top players. The opinion seems to be the season is too long, the off season too short, they are playing too much. It's destroying their bodies. I wonder if this level of attrition would be acceptable in any other working environment?

Judging by the first game no chance
Berdy just had the trainer on to change remove blister plasters ewwww nothing serious though. Lost first set 6-2 on serve 4-3 in the second
Berdy breaks 5-3 and will serve for the set
for once in your life Berdych , pleaseeeeeee !!!!!!! ( not too optimistic to be honest )
Come on Berdy!! I wish I wasn't so tired and don't have to be up so early cos the match I would really love to see is Nick v Sascha. I don't have BT Sport so can't watch Jo. Such a shame the WTA pulled out of Tennis TV ... just as I joined!

Shopping at this hour? ... I'll be heading for bed as soon as this match is over. COME ON BERDY!!
Watching it. Berdych has just broken Fed to love, when Fed was serving for it. Bed Berdych gets broken straight back.
No, let's think positive ... Come on Berdy, you can do this!!
Have been busy all day and didn't get a chance yet. Was going to go tomorrow but I won't have time before I have to go to Manchester to get Kev and after travelling for ever he'll be hoping for some food. Besides unless I find my keys he'll be walking back lol
So pleased Berdy got back on serve after dropping it just needs a hold here!! Come on Berdy!
Agh who jinxed it? Mp fed
Agh who jinxed it? Mp fed
I'm at least a point behind ... that's the only problem with online TV
Berdych held. It seems a bit wrong to be rooting for Berdych, given my dislike of him. However I will make an exception in this case..!!!
Wow! Well done Berdy ... and it's 5-all
Come on birdy!!! Just a hold and a few points in the breaker no biggie lol
4:4 in the tiebreak, both have been broken twice. Berdych now has another mini break.
