Been there, arrived safe, no t-shirt!!!!
Here goes, hope it all makes sense for those arriving on Eurostar.
For those arriving from CDG there are other routes using RER and interchanges to reach Gare St Lazare.
Exit Eurostar and go left. and keep going! Eventually you'll see signs for the METRO and in particular RER E which is the one you need. Go down the escalator to a wide modern corridor. You'll come to some ticket machines, I went to the Billeterie and bought a carnet of 10 tickets. That covered my return thru' Paris on Monday and some for a trip to France in autumn. It was eu14.50, normally eu1.90 per ticket. They are valid for 12 months.
I then went further ahead following signs for RER E, well signposted, down, down, down until you reach platforms. Go left to the numbers 52 and 54 and board train. Go one stop to Hausmann/St Lazare and leave RER.
Then you have to go up, up, up!!!
Lazare has several floors and you need to keep going to the top and follow signs to TREN! This indicates the Intercity services which you'll find on the blue screens, ignore the green screens which are more local services into Normandy.
You'll need Intercity to Rouen or Le Havre, for Rouen.
They go from platforms 21 to 28 only.
TICKETS FOR ROUEN
There are machines but I went to the Billeterie.
BIG QUEUE!!!
BUT.
They have a row of computers where you can use credit cards to buy tickets and staff on hand to help, in my case he did the lot for me! Instructions are all in French.
This area is being modernised hence the newness of the desktop buying system.
I do not know if the above is open or operates late at night.
TRAINS
Mine was quite dated and the loos were all locked!
Use loos on the station before departure, journey time to Rouen 1hr 10mins approx.
Nice views of the Seine en route.
At Rouen just exit the station and cross the road to the Astrid.
Typed this up over an excellent, very French, dinner at Hotel Dieppe which is alongside the Astrid.
Will make more notes later although I'm dog tired and the aperitif and half bottle of wine are very relaxing!
E&OE, I am using my tablet to type this up!
