Bally is back in action tomorrow at Linza
I play Dominika Cibulkova in the first round of WTA Linz. She's seeded and I'll have to play very well to beat her but after a little break from competing I'm soooo up for getting back out there!
1st on Centre Court tomorrow at 11am (10am UK time) against Cibulkova! Pumped and ready to rumble xx
Good luck Bally!

Cibulkova obviously a tough opponent. Gl Elena.
Maza1987

She lost a tight match to to Cibulkova by retirement.
She had mps in the second but then lost the tb and retired while 1-0 down in the third.
what a shame for Bally. Hope it's not too serious.

How gutting and pity she had to retire so early in the third. Hopefully she'll be ok.
:( Pity after being so close to winning the match! Hope she is ok
Bally is playing in Aukland just now against Sasha Jones, ranked below her, 273
Bally was 2 breaks, up. Lost a break but broke back. 5-2 to Bally! Come on Bally!
First set to Bally 6-2. Jones takes 2nd set 6-4 after some good comeback from Bally. :( Come on Bally! Take this!
Yes! Bally won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3

She overcame the d in the win - the wind - by the sound of it. Good luck in the next round. We want her playing well, but particularly when the Fed Cup comes round!
A nicer time of midnight for Bally's match today!

Real tough match for Bally so fingers crossed
Bally got broken first service game. Pity that as she has been on par with Flavia since. 2 deuces too. Now it's a set point to Flavia on Flavia's serve but... play got suspended for rain :(
Gutted! Stayed up for all of this but a toughie to lose :( Rain delay did not help!

Pennetta can certainly be tough, but pity Bally lost in straights.

Hey everyone! i play Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania in the first round of the Morilla Hobart International. i thought you'd like to see the draw. Everything is going well and it's great for Nino and I to have our new Fed Cup captain Judy Murray here to support us as well. She's a great coach and really good laugh too! :-)

Judging by her results, her level is not as high as last year. She will find it tough to stay in top 50 this year I think.

Bally is on a Q/Sport tonight - 10.35pm BBC1.
Did Bally's team win? my recording cut off the very end when Matt Dawson was getting too excited:crying:
I hope Matt Dawson didn't win. I hate it when Matt Dawson wins.
Bally was awesome on QOS! Got all of her questions right. They ended up drawing. Though could have won had Tuffers not missed his gazillion shots in lacrosse lol! Looked like loads of fun!

Unfortunately this is the story of Elena's tennis career, she starts to make progress then gets injured.
Hope it's nothing too bad. She certainly threw all she had into the Fed Cup matches, so I suppose it's not surprising that she's feeling the effects. Come back soon Bally!
Great win for Bally. Coming back from a set and a break down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 :) Great way to halt the GB losses :)

Really pleased for Elena. Good recovery!
Sad that Bally lost today but was a tough player. Update from her on FB
It always hurts to lose but congrats to Julia Georges on her 63 62 win today. It's been a frustrating time lately because I've changed a few things in my game and sometimes the results don't come straight away but I feel like it's getting there now. I'll definitely take a bit more confidence with me into my next tournament.
Sorry Elena lost.
Onwards and upwards and better luck in her next tourney.
well done you know who for winning you know what, dont wanna spoil the surprise
I could probably hazard a guess...

Bally's R1 match in Estoril will be on soon. Bet365 appear to be showing that court on a stream so hopefully they'll stay with it for the her match.
Watch Bally, follow Heather on livescores .......
;)
a stream???!!
But I have so many other things to do :grrr:
Well, multitasking it is!!
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 13:20
Well, it's not a stream on Bet365; just a 2" square TV window.
Sounds incredibly windy there!
Bally serving at *1-2 and has 2 bp's against her serve.
I've got about a quarter of an eye on the stream!
Bally is a break down at the mo 1-3*
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 13:24
Bally broken 1-3*
Found a bigger version of the match via lsh on Bet365 extra.
Bit easier on the eyesight!!!
It looks a really nice court with the hacienda style arches and roof on one side.
Bally breaks back for *3-4
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 13:36
Bally broke back, serving at *3-4.
This court has just one TV camera fixed at the baseline end.
Sound is picking up the very windy conditions and ladies walking by in stilettos!
Come on Bally!

Bally up *4-1
*4-2 at the change of ends
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 14:01
Kirilenko serving first:
*1-0
1-1*
1-2* Bally holds
*1-3 Oooooooh, a mini-break, can she hang on to it?
*1-4 and another mb, come on Bally!
2-4* and Kiri gets one back with some good net play
:grrr:
Bally missed the first of 4 sp's
one left...
6-6
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 14:06
Bally serving ...
2-4* after change of ends
2-5* Bally (Kiri hit long)
*2-6 and Bally has 4 set points!
*3-6 and now she has to serve it out ..... 2 chances!
4-6* one gone, Kiri wins a longish rally with a good DTL
5-6* Foot fault on first serve, and Kiri defends both set point. Oh Elena, what chances wasted!
*6-6 All 4 set points gone. Honestly, that's poor.
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 14:08
Kirilenko holds and now has a set point on Bally's serve.
Bally hit's long and that's the first set lost.
I hope David1610 is there and can later shed some light on what happened 'cos I'm watching on a titchy screen. Long and short of it is that Bally was 6-2 up in the tiebreak and lost the next 6 points and the first set.
what a chance she missed there. Hope she can come out fighting in the 2nd.
Torn between this and Hev's great win!.
Can now concentrate on Bally!
trainer has come on court, but I'm not sure which player for
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 14:17

Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 14:36
Bally holds to get on the board in the 2nd set.
Kiri to serve at *2-1.
Bally loses 6-7 1-6
Oh dear - did Bally completely lose the plot or did Maria up her game?
Sallydaisy
01-05-2012, 15:10
Oh dear - did Bally completely lose the plot or did Maria up her game?
She did well to get ahead in the tie-break but after that no idea what happened.
I thought she seemed nervy which might explain losing the next 6 points and the first set.
Kirilenko had the trainer on after that and then basically had all the answers in the 2nd set.
Maybe it would have been different if Bally had won the 1st set???
JAMES4578
01-05-2012, 19:30
Pity Elena fell away in the 2nd after so nearly taking the opener, maybe a bit of mental baggage even if Kirkilenko upped her game. However, hopefully Bally can take the positives.
Bally has just won her match in Prague against Lara Arruabarrena Vecino, 6-3 6-1
In the second round Bally beat Urszula Radwanska 6-1 6-4
very well done!

Well done Bally - keep it up!! :cheer:
Bally plays Zakopalova, who's ranked 42, in the semi.
So happy that BAlly is doing so well and into the semis! Great that her hard work is paying off!
Is there a stream for her matches?
I don't think there's a stream. There are scores here: http://www.protenis.cz/ls/scoreboard.php?t=12478
but you might not want to look - Bally is a set and a break down
She lost 6-1 6-3 :crying:
Sadly Bally lost to Zakopalova 1-6 3-6
snap!

26-06-2012, 20:11
Bally really did pull away in the end, well done!! However, a bit of a step up as she faces Petra Kvitova next, though the czech defending champion got off to a slow start today.
The pressure will be off her playing Kvitova so hopefully she can just go out there and enjoy the moment. I would think she will be on one of the show courts. It was great to see Judy courtside, supporting Bally right to the end of her match - even though Andy's match was well under way by the time it finished. I bet none of the 'Murray' bashers comment on that!
JAMES4578
28-06-2012, 19:30
Bally lost the first 10 games and couldn't get much going, however Petra was on fire! Kvitova gave her an opening and Elena showed some good form just going down 6-4 in the 2nd,glad she got some respectability.

Overall though Bally has had a good tournament.
yes it would have been virtually impossible for Bally to win unless Kvitova had had a melt down.

This was posted on the BBC site shortly after her first round Olympics victory:
Surprising news from Britain's Elena Baltacha, who had taping on her shins during a first-round victory over Agnes Szavay. The 28-year-old has revealed she will undergo surgery on her right - and possibly left - ankle after the Olympics, which is likely to end her season, and the former British number one admits she might not return to professional tennis after her recovery is complete.

That is really sad news from Bally. I hope she's not in too much pain or discomfort playing at the moment.
I guess she must think that missing so much time will hurt her ranking too much and it'd be a long hard slog back up the rankings (even with a protected ranking). She also has a tennis academy that she's involved in so must have her eye on what she might do with her future and hopefully it'd still be in tennis with all the experience she has.

Tennis player Elena Baltacha is to be remembered in a BBC Alba documentary.
Olympian Baltacha died of cancer in 2014 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/27280549) at the age of 30, having retired from tennis a few months earlier.
The documentary, to be broadcast on Sunday, 1 December at 21:00 GMT, will feature interviews with her husband Nino Severino and her former Fed Cup captain Judy Murray.

This documentary is available on BBC iplayer for 29 days - I watched and enjoyed it last night. Some is in Gaelic (well, it is on Alba) but there are subtitles for those bits.
What a lovely tribute to Bally. She achieved so much despite her health problems, and left a great legacy. Smiles and tears.

Certainly was fab tribute to Elena and showed the great moments, tinged with sadness. Thought it deserved bigger platform than Alba, though obviously it is available on iplayer for a month.
I watched this last night. So so sad that such a young life was taken so early. Good to see Nino continuing her legacy. Lovely Bally. Will never forget her.
