Andy's first match in Shanghai will be against Russian WR41 Dimitry Tursunov.

The 2 have played 5 times and Andy has a 5-0 H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=T315) against the 28yr old from Moscow.
It's 3 years since they last met, in the R16 at Cincy, with a 6-3, 6-3 for Muzzah.

Dima was world ranked #20 in 2006, when Andy first played him, and has had mixed fortunes since then. He dropped down the to 400's this time last year but has worked hard to make his way back up the rankings rising 80 places since Jan 2011.

With only an hour time difference between Tokyo and Shanghai jet-lag shouldn't pose too much of a problem for Andy. However, he's played 2 solid weeks of tennis, coming away with back-to-back titles, and some might view the Russian dangerous enough on the day to give Andy a bit of a tussle.

Hopefully we'll see the same sort of form from Andy that we've witnessed over the last 2 weeks and he'll secure his place in R3.

The match is likely to be on Wednesday, time tbc when the OOP is released.

Dimitry can be fun to watch as he always goes for his shots, whether it's the right time or not. He can scare you stupid at the start of matches if the attempted winners go in, but he's never been consistent enough to keep it up. Should be entertaining, for those who can watch it. I'll be at work - boooooo. :(

It is indeed going to depend on how much Andy has left in the tank and Andy himself talks about lowering his expectations in his Shanghai preview interview at http://www.tennistv.com/page/Video/0,,11444~1860496,00.html (not sure if you can see this without subscription).
However, I had much rather he played Tursunov than Bellucci as I think Andy even if tired has enough match play and experience playing Dimitri to instinctively know how to play him whereas Bellucci could have involved a lot more effort early on.

They used to play a lot in the early part of Andy's career.

Thanks for this - a good interview, and you don't need subscription.

Ah .... the OOP (http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/5014/op.pdf)is up and Sally's right .... I'll go and lie in a darkened room

Well, this is a surprise - I expected it to be Bellucci as Tursunov hasn't done much for ages. Should make it even easier!

The match before Andy's is just coming onto court now - and it's Rafa - so it could well be another 2 hours or more until Andy gets on court.

Exactly what I was thinking. Shame he didn't get a 'practice session', but great that I'll be able to follow him tomorrow - I'm not working! Nor am I working on the weekend!

Three days off work suddenly feels like a holiday. :)

I wonder if Andy's going to find that more opponents withdraw rather than face him on court. Even if he were fully fit, Tursunov would know he had his work cut out; in my view it's a good sign for Andy if people consider themselves beaten by him before they even set foot on court.
