Mmmmm not an easy draw, is it?
I think the other side of the draw is much worse, I'm quite happy with Andy's side of the draw.
another meeting with DThiem should be interesting

Think it'll be challenging if Andy meets Thiem again, however was tight in Barcelona and hopefully finds another gear.

Personally I'm perfectly happy with the draw. It's about how Andy plays, not who he plays. If he gets his head together, sharpens up his focus and plays like we know he can then few can pose him problems. If he doesn't, then quite frankly he's capable of losing to anyone. It's in his hands. Come on Andy, let's go, time to get into gear and get back to winning ways!

Is there an easy draw these days ? The depth of talented players in the top 20 is so exciting. On their day any of them could cause an upset.
Consistency rules the day and that is something I believe will be coming back to Andy shortly if not now
Can't see Kyle on the list - is he playing/injured??

I think he will appear at the French Open, just my opinion & I could be wrong, it has been known.......

I'm sure he'll appear in week before the French and they will then be together through to the end of the grass. Think this will always have been the plan- also think they'd have been together in Miami had Andy not withdrawn.
GGL v Copil is on tomorrow's schedule so could mean Andy's first match will be on Tuesday or should that be early Wednesday morning? :p ;)

Roy.... according to Kyle's website he is next down for Rome .....http://kyleedmund.tennis/tournaments
Andy will play wild card Copil who has just beaten GGL 7-6(8) 4-6 7-6(9) in 2:52. He was in tears at the end after an epic TB.
The reason for Copil's tears is he will break the top 100 for the first time at age 26. Oh great, Andy's playing another one who's at a career high. ;)
Pouille who is Andy's prospective third round opponent has withdrawn from the doubles which he was due to play today as he has a fever/viral infection.

I managed to watch the last set. Some match! There was virtually nothing between them and it turned out to be a very long match. I don't think Andy has played Copil, has he? Open to correction!
I hate it when Andy is playing someone he has never played before. It always takes him time to suss out his opponent and the other player has absolutely nothing to lose.
Poor old Monfils - he is in the wars again. He looks so sad. I just want to give him a hug.

Simon through. Wierd score 0:6, 6:0, 7:6 (7:0). Not totally convinced that Monfils didn't let it go. I imagine he didn't want to risk it with the French Open coming up. This way he has got a week to get rehabilitated.

Classic Dr Ivo match beating RBA 7-6(4) 6-7(9) 7-6(7) in 3:01. Great third set TB and brilliant MP.
ARV ended his 21 match losing streak in doubles yesterday and clearly overdid the celebration as he's just lost 1-6 3-6 to Schwartzman.

Well done to Goffin who has just beaten Raonic in straight sets.
Djokovic beats Lopez 6 - 4, 7 - 5.

Certainly very tight between Thiem and Dimi and whilst like them both glad Domi came through, see Nadal thrashed Kygrios though so that one didn't live up to the billing! On thus surface though felt Rafa was clear favourite but whilst didn't view disappointing it wasn't a contest.
yeah James , sure was a thrashing , disappointing , thought Nick might be able to make it closer :(
I had to go out into the garden and apply myself to some vigorous gardening to still my soul after Andy's loss. I couldn't face more tennis just at that time, but thought I would come in to watch 2nd set of Nick/Rafa as I had earlier been looking forward to it. Couldn't believe that I missed the whole thing...it was over so quickly. I thought Nick might have had a chance too! But interesting to note that 3 of the 'next gen' players won today! Thiem, A Zverev and of course Coric.
It was a pity that the Nadal/Kyrgios match didn't live up to its billing. The Thiem/Dimitrov match was a humdinger though!
Nishikori has withdrawn meaning Djokovic is through to the SF. It never rains but it pours.
Keith better watch out or the "Withdrawing after the draw is made" brigade will be on his case. ;)
"My wrist still not at 100% and I don't want to risk.I feel a chance to play Rome but can't promise it. French Open is more important"
The Rome draw is later today.
Rosalind
12-05-2017, 11:32
The other day it was obvious his wrist was bad and it seemed that he was plugging on instead of withdrawing mid-match. That way his opponent could at least get the win and go forward to next match. Just a nuisance when they do this! That's my moan over.

And bye bye Borna, feel free to stay out of Andy's way for a very long time.

Djoko looked lost at times , and agree about the guru , Im sorry , but hes just plain creepy !!
I've not seen Rafa this good for a while. He really is pretty much back at his best and on this form you would think he has the clay court season stitched up! But you never know! We'll see how tomorrow goes first. I couldn't decide whether it was Rafa's excellent play which didn't allow Nole to play his usual game or whether it was a sub-par Nole which contributed to his downfall? Bottom line, Rafa was dominant throughout.
I didn't watch this, but pleased to see the result!

I think if Rafa carries on like this here and in Rome, it will make Roger a lot more unlikely to play Roland Garros, still remember being there for the pasting he took in 2008 in under 2 hours 6-1 6-3 6-0, 2 sets of the Ladies final took longer, a really rare event for a slam!
Are my calculations right, by Djokovic losing in the semis, he has lost more points than our man, so the gap has actually widened?
I do feel a little bit sorry for Djokovic; I don't dislike him although I do dislike some of his antics, and I do hate to see him and Andy (more so obviously) playing so far from their best right now. Hope they can both sort their various physical/mental problems out very soon. I'm going to a Eurovision party at my son's later (I know, not the best!) and everyone has to go dressed in the flag colours of one of the entries; I'll be donning my Davis Cup garb together with large flag and remembering happier times! What are the odds on nul points??
Rafa played an amazing first set - Djoko made more of a match of it in the second but it was still Rafa's show. I can't see anyone stopping him on clay this year - unless perhaps one of the young clay specialists meets him early in a tournament and he has an off day. I can't see Fed doing it - Rafa really has got the bit between his teeth!
I thought Djoko's brother looked very uncomfortable sitting next to the guru - his body language spoke volumes.
