BBC (as you'd expect as they have the rights to the big event) will be televising the Wimbledon qualies for the first time - ESPN and one other network will be doing the same
I think this is great as Roehampton is now ticketed so telly will be another option (and it's more tennis for me to watch on BBC lol)

Same week as Eastbourne so that's great news.
Great news - it just hope the decision isn't anything to do with Sharapova playing the qualies. ;)
Great news, but I think it really might have something to do with Sharapova having to qualify. Would they still be showing it if she had got in?

I think the decision to do it was made before it was known she was playing in the qualifiers

So Andy will be the Number 1 seed...........a Maths degree required to work out who will be 2,3 and 4.
themass15
07-06-2017, 11:55
Djoko could be in same half as Andy if he is ranked No.2. Cannot see he would be elevated from No.3 ranking, although Federer could be ranked higher.
sir coolerking

Novak can claim an extra 1500 points to his Wimbledon ranking from his win 2 years ago which would sneak him just above Rafa if Rafa wins in Paris. The top 4 seeds may well be decided by what happens at Queens and Halle.
Top 4 seedings very interesting indeed ....
sir coolerking
15-06-2017, 10:01
So taking Bardot's numbers from the Rankings thread which includes the Grass bonuses.........
1.Andy 11930
2.Djokovic 7395
3.Nadal 7318
4.Wawrinka 6490
5.Federer 6385
Federer and Stan will have to win Halle and Queen's to oust Nadal from the top 4 seeds. So it looks a straight shoot out now between them for the number 4 seed spot. If we end up with Stan at 4 then it makes for some pretty tough potential QF's with Federer, Raonic and Cilic lurking......although smart money would see Federer going further at Halle than Stan does at Queen's.

Wildcards announced on Tuesday but Tim Henman says it'll be hard to award them to Brits.
I've just found out, the BBC will be showing the Wimbledon qualifying rounds next Monday from 11am on the Red Button.
Lifted from MTF.
The top 5 seeds as of today, and will remain this way if neither win and Wawrinka reaches the same or further than Federer in their respective 500s:
1. Murray
2. Djokovic
3. Nadal
4. Wawrinka
5. Federer
If both Federer and Wawrinka win titles it becomes
1. Murray
2. Wawrinka
3. Djokovic
4. Federer
5. Nadal
If only Wawrinka wins it's:
1. Murray
2. Wawrinka
3. Djokovic
4. Nadal
5. Federer
If only Federer wins it's:
1. Murray
2. Djokovic
3. Federer
4. Nadal
5. Wawrinka
If neither win and Federer goes two rounds further (or one if they both reach QF) then it's:
1. Murray
2. Djokovic
3. Nadal
4. Federer
5. Wawrinka
sir coolerking
20-06-2017, 15:18
So with Stan now out, the only real impact on seeding is if Federer wins 2 matches. He'll go into top 4 and Stan drops to 5. Being 3 or 4 makes no difference to the draw for Federer.
Klein, Norrie and wardy get WC for main draw Gent singles
Broady, Clarke, Corrie, glasspool and Willis WC for gents quaiies
Clarke & Willis, Klein & Salisbury, and skupskis get WCs for gents doubles
Ladies (sorry if this goes elsewhere) WC main - boulter, broady, Watson, robson.
WC dubs - boulter & swan, broady & Watson, dart & dunne, Rae & robson
WC qualies - Christie, Dart, Dunne, swan, Taylor
WC wheelchair - shuker
Tommy Haas, Denis Shapovalov & Zarina Diyas also received wild cards.
Tommy Haas, Denis Shapovalov & Zarina Diyas also received wild cards.
Yep sorry folks I was only talking about the Brits who got WCs
sir coolerking
22-06-2017, 13:25
I can't decide whether Shapovalov's Wildcards are down to his previous grass court wins or hitting the umpire in the Davis Cup. I'm not sure that incident was the worst thing that could've happened to his career!!
Scott Clayton and Jonny O'Mara have also been given wildcards for the doubles.

Yes he will deffo play mon, wed, fri.. only certainty is he will be CC on monday. The top players normally get put on crt 1 at some point but theres no way of knowing if & when andy may be on there. He may not be at all this year.

So getting a bit concering. One bad match on grass and little practice in last few days. Andy won't be feeling too confident.
Really hoping he will be ok to play at Wimby ... cutting it fine if he's not ready to go 3 days before he walks out on to CC
really hoping Andy does well at W , but honestly I have no expectations , just gonna enjoy the tennis !
Obviously practice would be nice but I'm glad he's playing it safe and I trust the event of Wimbledon to bring out his best game. :peace:

Thanks Sally! I think this time around I'm just going to enjoy any match Andy can play, healthily!
Poor Andy - it seems that the fates have conspired against him this year - just as they did after he won Wimbledon in 2013. I have absolutely no expectations for him at Wimbledon. If he wins any matches - that's great. If he loses in the first round I will be sad for him but that's okay too - it will mean that he is clearly not fit. It's rotten luck but not the end of the world It's just tennis, folks!

When I heard Andy was to play Bublik I have to confess to taking a sharp intake of breath! I have seen this young man play...he is quite a character! I remember being so struck with his play I posted about it on here...it was a number of years ago and before the time when we lost a lot of our posts when the site crashed. I wish I could remember where I saw him play, probably a challenger event, but he really caught my eye. (Again I'm a bit vague as to why!) I think his style might be a tad unorthodox, but I could well be wrong. I think we could be in for an entertaining match on Monday, I so hope Andy will be feeling ok. If all is well with Andy, he should manage Bublik. :strawberry:

Having just gone through that bit of nostalgia, I realise I am not looking forward to this Wimbledon with my usual relish. I shall be watching tomorrow with pride when Andy walks out as defending champion, and then peeping through fingers until he is safely through the first round.
I do hope he is fit enough to withstand 2 weeks - somehow I feel if he can just get into the second week he will be fine. He can always play himself into a tournament but the problem with the hip seems acute. I'm sure its going to be one of those games when he goes around clutching body parts. To be honest if he has a problem I would rather he withdrew but somehow I cant see him doing that. -

Sorry to read that LC. I hope you get into it as the tournament progresses. I've got a plan to help you - start off expecting Andy to do really badly, then if he does anything better than expected just claim that he's won the whole thing. Seems to be how things work these days..:big grin:...seriously though, I can't wait for it to start. It sometimes feel like a crazy, unsettled world with too many ugly events in the news. Time for a beautiful, classy, timeless event to dominate the headlines. Just think, that at 140 years old, Wimbledon is nearly as old as Canada, so no wonder we cherish it so deeply! It's been around long before us, will be around long after us, all we have to do is enjoy each one we're lucky enough to see.
Good luck Andy, just feel the love of your fans and do your best, that's all we ever want.

:fanning: this time tomorrow we will know much more :)
Tsonga or Robson? I can't think who the BBC will show.
Is there a red button option?

I would imagine so, if you have Freesat you should get the choice of about 7 courts
Well Said RB

I'd say it's extremely unlikely that Andy will be playing Kyrgios in the 4th round. Clearly not fit and struggling against Herbert, on the verge of going 2 sets down.

Don't risk it, Pat! This is the BBC, employer of Matt Baker and Stacey Dooley, so you have to wonder who they would replace him with.:nailbiter: A truly sorry state of affairs, but sometimes it's better the Infidel you know.

I heard that! (thanks to you for posting the link to it.) Couldn't believe my ears when I heard the question! Harder for Andy to answer than winning a match! But he did ok IMO!
Possibly worse than journos is Tursunov who since May 2016 has used his protected ranking to play 4 slams & 1 Masters, losing all 5 matches but collecting £137K in the process. He hasn't played any futures or challengers in that time. Fognini just whipped him 6-1 6-3 6-3.

The tennis tipster on the Sporting Life tipped his followers to put money on there being more than 43 games in this match at Evens. He also tipped up Medvedev beating Wawrinka at 5-2 and a cheeky treble of Young, Khachanov and Brown at 9-4. Not a bad first day!! He tipped up Tsonga overall at 80-1, odds which have halved after Day 1. Still can't see him making the Final though.
