Good to hear Andy had a better practice today. Hope he's OK and perhaps just feeling pre-tournament nerves.
Maybe it's all a cunning plan and Andy is lulling his opponents into a false sense of security!;)

Except Andy has been practising in the hot weather and cooler weather will change how the court plays.
Andy was inerviewed by ITV4 this morning and said he is a lot better. It was last weekend and the beginning of the week when he was at his worst. Fortunately he did not go down with the bug a week later.

That applies to everyone! If he was seen struggling in 30 deg heat and has been ill, then cooler conditions will surely help him.

Good luck Andy. I'm hoping that switching to Bof5 can help him. More time to dig himself out of trouble if he finds himself down. And if he does that, starts coming through matches he may have lost if Bo3, he might start building some confidence and momentum. We are all behind you, Andy, so feel the love and very best of luck for the tournament.:peace::peace::peace:

Lokoli trying to come back from two sets down, which is good news for Sir Andy.
Andreev and Verdasco have got to finish their match from last night. It was scheduled in later last night. They will have to play 2 or 3 sets before Andy plays. So it could be quite a while. Between 1 and 3 more hours. Jo's match was a long one for a first round women's match too which put the time back.
Sir Andy will be delighted knowing his next opponent had to win in five sets.

Kuzy obliges with a poor game to give Andy the set. Agree with RB that Andy is looking a bit rusty rather than the flatness we'd seen recently. Just needs to keep playing himself in and build confidence. The 1st serve percentage is a bit of a concern, but maybe that's part of the confidence thing

How many points has Andy lost in this set almost before the rally due to his negativity? Last year it was nearly always about the next point. Sigh...

I'm really not nervous about this match because I'm not expecting much so I won't be too disappointed if he loses. Sure, he will lose a huge number of points but it would give him time to go home and regroup before the grass which perhaps would be no bad thing

How can you be so negative!!
I don't think I'm being negative, I think I'm being realistic. There is nothing I would like better than for Andy to find his form this week and hit every opponent off the court but if that doesn't happen and he does lose this match - or in the second or third round - the saving grace would be that he gives his body some time to recover before Queens.

Onward and upward Andy!
I didn't get to see the match but was checking live scores when I could. Have read through the thread as I often do ... have to say I'm glad I wasn't on here at the start. Some of you really are a negative lot! Listening to Andy which is what I like to do rather than all the scaremongering, he has said he has struggled for motivation before between the AO and French because there's such a big gap. It's the slams that he wants to win these days (like all top players I'm sure) so I have no doubt he is up for this tournament. He's been unlucky this season with illness and injury but like he says, tennis players are prone to viruses due to all the flying they do. He doesn't need to rest, he needs to play and win more matches (his words re-phrased, not mine) and I have every confidence that this is the start of a turnaround ...

He doesn't need to rest, he needs to play and win more matches (his words re-phrased, not mine) and I have every confidence that this is the start of a turnaround ...
Me too, Caro. Who cares about what's gone before, that was then, this is now. What has Stan ever done in the lead in tournaments prior to his slam wins? A big fat nothing, is what. But doesn't matter because if a player has the required talent and starts feeling it, then it's game on.:thumbup::thumbup:

Andy improved massively throughout the match and by the end was showing some total class.
But when he lost 2 serves in a row in 2nd set after a very average first set, it was not looking good and neither was he - pretty negative body language. I didn't post during the match at all but I wouldn't have sounded too happy at that point!
Glad to say Andy did turn it around and give us and him some confidence - but still a way to go before we see SuperAndy!
I'm not at all surprised he had to work himself into the match and that he didn't play well at the start! He's been struggling which he freely admits but he is 100% motivated for this tournament, so he'll fight to get the form back. From the highlights I saw, he wasn't flat, he was just fighting through the frustration of lack of form ... class will out

Glad I didn't read the start then!

The situation was looking pretty concerning at one point and I think people are entitled to express how they feel on the forum - surely that is the point of it.
Andy was doing a lot of expressing himself at that point and none of it looked or sounded too happy (he was providing commentary at some points)! Fortunately he did then start to give off more confident vibes as things improved so I'm sure that settled people's nerves on here!

Yes, of course. I'm sorry I just don't deal well with negativity which is why I said I was glad I wasn't on here. We can see the same thing in front of us and interpret it differently. Maybe it's a blessing that I rarely get to be on here during matches. It's a shame because it's great to share the Andy experience with other fans ... but I don't want to end up upsetting people, which is what I fear might happen.

I've never understood negativity when Andy's down. It just doesn't make sense to me because that's when he needs us the most. It's our job!

Great news when I came out of my meetings - I saw he had the second set and although I couldn't follow the score for some hours I felt he had it then.
Well done Andy - upward and onward - Del Potro to sort next!

Well I feel a bit negative as I tried to post earlier and was told I didn't have permission and my token had expired. Have had this before and I simply do not understand. This post may not get past the token meister.

Well Andy displays masses of it sometimes! As Andy doesn't have a clue what we are thinking or writing I think it is acceptable for people to mention their worries and concerns if things aren't going so well. It doesn't mean people aren't supporting him.

I am sure you meant the match with Klizan yesterday! Andy lost the second set to Kuznetsov on Tuesday! :)

Of course it's acceptable to mention worries and concerns but here I suppose we are talking what constitutes 'negativity'. Really though my post was a general comment on that negativity that stumbles into criticism. As for Andy's displays of negativity he is allowed as he is hitting the ball! It is for him to control. If he's going through a bad time shout louder and longer for him. That's my plan.

Yes i agree, but the forum would be a bit boring if all we did was shout Come on Andy. That's what I do on twitter.
