Andy leads the H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/andy-murray-vs-martin-klizan/MC10/K966) by 1-0 ... but the Slovakian player took Sir Muzz to 3 sets in Vienna last October and clearly he's doing well as he's now ranked #50 in the world.
The match is on Thursday 1st June.

Really not a fan of Klizan. Work him over, Muzz.:superman:
Depending how Klizan feels, after going to a five set match, I hope to see Sir Andy win this in straight sets.

Saw Klizan play Rafa at Wimbledon 2 or 3 years ago. Very flashy but sure Andy will beat him reasonably comfortably.

Time just announced. Second on S. Lenglen so around midday.
I hereby wish to state that should the previous ladies' match take three hours and have three long tiebreaks, and my time prediction becomes considerably out... it is not my fault!!!!
The Very Best of Luck Andy!!!:thumbup:
All the best Andy! Play well! :boogie:
A 62 minute first set which Radwanska loses. This is so going 3 sets with Aga winning 17-15 in the third. See you in another 3 hours.

They are just going into the final set now.
All the very best of luck, Andy

Time for the world's best player :cheer: (who has the world's best fans :rolling:) C'mon Andy, crush this guy!
I can't believe Petchey just asked Sir Andy what suntan lotion he uses.
Sir Andy has just walked out.
Klizan's grunt is very weird.
Klizan chatting to himself.
Second game point for Sir Andy.
Saves BP & holds. Klizan's grunt. 1-0
Klizan chatting to himself. Looks like you are too Stell ... sorry, I'm at work so can't stay!
Go Andy!! I have every confidence in you :yahoo::yahoo:
Great to save Bp's to hold That will settle the nerves

C'mon Andy!
I did wonder if anyone else was watching it Caro.
1 - 1.
Three break points for Klizan.
Oh dear. I imagine it will take him a while to get going.
david1610
01-06-2017, 12:10
Oh well. Just stay calm and work it out. Please. C'mon Andy!
Andy 67% first serves but rolling some of them in. 1-2
Klizan only 33% first serves but it's enough. 1-3

Cmon Andy get going, it took 2 sets in r1 before the real Andy turned up, could need 5 sets if he doesn't turn up till the third set today

01-06-2017, 12:18
First easy service hold. Has to hold and hang in and hope for a dip by Klizan in one of his service games. More of his game face there, though - perhaps because Klizan did not get a chance to impose on any point. C'mon Andy!
Klizan took Wawrinka to 5 sets in the first round in Australia and served a break up at 4-3 in the fifth only to lose the next 3 games.
Poor serving from Klizan (32%) but Andy not able to capitalise. 2-4
david1610
01-06-2017, 12:27
Andy has looked much more comfortable on serve in the last two games but has to find a way of imposing himself on return to get those four (or more) points! C'mon Andy!
He is not getting a look in on Klizan's serve at the moment.
Next change of ends, Sir Andy will see Almagro has levelled the match against del Potro.
Klizan finds his first serve. 3-5

C'mon now. Klizan just slightly less accurate. C'mon Andy!
Break point for Sir Andy.

Focus. Safe hold. C'mon Andy!
Had to go into the garden for a full blown wuss attack in that game.
The way Khachanov's playing, Kyle could be walking out very soon.
Almagro collapse in tears and retires, Delpo consoling him who also had an MTO for a groin injury.
Sir Andy lost their only tie break, so he might not want one.

Next change of ends, Sir Andy will see Almagro has levelled the match against del Potro.Enough of this. Seriously.
Oh Andy! He rather gave that tie break away.
That's going to annoy having come back from a break down.

Almagro has retired - the winner of this match plays Delpo.
Ferrer's just been beaten.

Could Klizan not running for droppers a sign his calf is troubling him or just mini-tanking?

Possibly a bit of both. Interesting to see if Klizan will come back in time or whether Andy can get a significant advantage first.
Okay, no joy in that game - just a safe hold now, Andy.
david1610
01-06-2017, 13:51
Klizan seems to have stepped up the power and is just going for it. Andy holding in the next few service games vital.

How many times since Bahrain have we seen Andy "the strategist" working as well as today, particulary from the second set onwards. That is what has encouraged me most today. Klizan was overpowering Andy, but that strategist has been wearing him down. C'mon Andy!
Does John Macenroe ever stop talking??
Klizan holds to love. 5-2

Has Klizan got one short sock and one long on??
Klizan saves 2BPs (one a gift) & holds. 0-3
Blimey - I turn my back for 10 minutes and Andy lets him back in!
Remember Lokoli accused Klizan of faking injury in the first round.
Has Klizan got one short sock and one long on??
I think he has strapping on his calf.
Concentrate, Andy. Just hold here and break him next game.
Monotonous Mac and Bonkers Bradman - could there be a worse combination?

I, sometimes, wish the BBC wouldn't employ McEnroe during Wimbledon.
Living outside the UK I normally use streams, but I have used itv4 this week and heard a lot of Jim Courier. What I have noticed is that he is observing the match carefully and sometimes comes out with some insights that I had not picked up on - so I am valuing his contributions. However, the other commies oblige him to engage in the "tennis conversations" which can be annoying. Put another way, I think he can be used to good effect with an aware co-commentator and have found the commentary today an addition not a distraction to the match.
Anyways, c'mon Andy!
Klizan not investing much effort in that game. 1-3
I think he has strapping on his calf.
Think I should have gone to Specsavers!
Klizan holds from 0-30, this is tough. 1-4
4:1 to Klizan. Come on chap. We really do need it done in 4 with Del Po lurking.
david1610
01-06-2017, 14:41
Mm. Feeling Andy let him off the hook there and running out of opportunities to break back.
Focus. Safe hold. C'mon Andy!
My heart's beating a tad faster watching these live scores! Come on Andy, you can do this!!
Didn't Andy's second round match go to a five setter last year as well?
Looks like it will go to 5.
FH bullets from Klizan & a couple of UEs. 2-5
Didn't Andy's second round match go to a five setter last year as well?
Yes - as did his first, which was probably why he ran out of steam in the final.
Okay - just hold and break.
Think Andy needs to go to Specsavers too; there have been opportunities in this set to get the win.
Come on Andy, please join Kyle in the third round. I can't see Olivo coming back from two sets down.
david1610
01-06-2017, 15:00
Well done Andy. Now keep it going!
Focus. Safe hold. C'mon Andy!
Klizan is going to let rip at everything in this upcoming game.
C'mon now, Andy - just hold, break, hold.
Well done - now just break and hold.
david1610
01-06-2017, 15:09
Now break again. C'mon Andy!
I can not say just how much my guts are churning at this point.
Death by dropper, unbelievable hold by Klizan. 5-6
What a game! You have to hand it to Klizan - that was some hold under pressure. Now just a safe hold, Andy, pleeeease!
Three aces and it's tie break time again! Let's hope Andy plays a better one than he did in the first set.
Please win this tie break, Andy, so we can watch the last five or so minutes of Kyle's match (well at the rate he's going).

Woweee! What a hard fought, well thought out and eventually well won match! Some magical rallies! They banished all memory of the not-so-good ones! I was never in doubt that Andy was going to win this notwithstanding the loss of the first set. It's almost as if the first set was like a warm up for Andy as he worked out his opponent's game. It's always a pleasure to watch him play his way into a match and get better and better until his oppo has no answer. I also believe that 4 sets of tennis was not a bad thing...the more match time on court the better for Andy at the moment....provided his elbow is ok. He was shaking it out quite a bit. As usual lovely interview with Fabrice. :bravo::cheer::clap::swingin:

A good win in the end but don't like the amount of time and energy he is expending on the court, when others are going through with the minimum of fuss.

I do think we should look at the opponents the others are facing.I wonder how they would have fared against Klizan?
Stans oppo did not possess the power and shot making skills of MK also he has been on a losing streak after coming back from injury. Del Po lost the second set and won with a retirement. The oppos of Rafa and Djokovic were not in the same class as MK, because once he's on a hot streak he is unplayable.

Well done our champ. :cheer::cheer: Sat calmly through first three sets willing him on while admiring Klizan's power and his brilliant drop shots and Andy's determination in defence and his brilliant shots also. On my feet for the duration of the fourth set and one can only admire Andy's tenacity and intelligence. Brilliant conclusion which I never doubted. He's on his way back and although a bit nervous (as usual) looking forward to his match with Delpo. That wasn't an easy match to win. Klizan was a formidable opponent so Andy should have a certain degree of satisfaction with that result.:knight::clap::knight:

Hmmm, I'm not convinced by these 'Andy's playing himself back into form" comments regarding time of court. Andy's history of not coming through matches as quickly as possible far predates his recent struggles. I agree that comparisons to the speed of other players' progress is not the way to judge, as they were facing different oppo, but looking at Andy's matches in isolation he could have come through more quickly; he lost a set to Kuz due to a wobble not the Russian's great play, and had Andy not played such a poor first set tb that could have been straights too. It all adds up, and the Delpo match could be a long one, so it would have been better to come through the first two matches as quickly as possible. I know lots of people will jump all over this comment, but the fact is Andy had been on court more than 5 hours longer than Djoko by the time they met in last year's final, and it hurt him. The definition of madness is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result....Andy needs to get efficient (esp. on the clay).
@ Rosie Bear - I think at the moment he needs to get his confidence back, and he can do that by wining matches. The important thing for me at the moment is he has won two matches against irritatingly difficult opponents. He has fought through. He wasn't doing that a few weeks ago.
More importantly when he is playing, many more of his trademark shots are hitting the right mark. You can see in his play why he reached No 1. Again those shots were the exception a few short weeks ago. We and him are seeing progress.
I hope he can get through Del Potro- if he does that and gets into the second week, I shall regard this tournament as a success.

Nobody's suggesting he shouldn't win matches - think we can agree winning matches is a good thing:) Seriously though, if you read/listen to all Andy's pre tournament interviews, he's gunning to win this tournament - the essence of all his interviews is "forget my recent form, I can still win here (and Wimbledon)". Like the competitor he is, he wants the title (and another huge step towards his career slam). I always take my cue from Andy and if he is to get what he has stated he wants he is going to have to come through efficiently, due to the unforgiving nature of clay. It's not a criticism of him - it's a wish for him (it makes no difference to me how long he takes, I don't have a bus to catch :)).
With regard to Andy's time on court, most of what you say Anna is quite right and makes good sense except IMO there are a few fundamental differences between this year and last year. Last year Andy came into RG off a win in Rome and brimming with confidence after a good clay court season and still managed to spend longer on court than was necessary. Confidence wasn't an issue then. Also, prior to RG last year, he had played a lot more tennis due to his success. This year, due to the circumstances we all know about, he has spent much less time on court and is therefore, for want of a more suitable expression, 'better rested' and can afford more much needed time on the match court to 'play himself in'. As we know Andy is always honest and forthright about his own performances so whilst acknowledging that in the first set of his match with Klizan he didn't play as 'solid' a match as he could, in his own words "...todays match will have done me a lot of good because physically I pulled up well and felt good so I'll gain a lot of confidence from that..."
That's why I think 4 sets yesterday was no bad thing...it was a good test and a great much needed confidence booster.
.......................... and Djoko spent a lot of time on court today against an opponent who has played most of his matches on the Challenger circuit.
Just wanted to say that the final shot to win it comes (imo) in his top three. Shots to win a match.
The others being Rome last year V joker (No.1) and the obvious lob against Goff in the 2016 DC final.
Nb. Lynne has just told me that Goff has had to retire due to a mishap with the covers at the back of
the court. I've been saying stuff about these for some time now, including the amount of dust that flies
up from them when it's windy for some time now. Surely something can be done?
Such a shame. If we can put a man on the moon!!!!
