The British Number 9 has been having a bad time.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/40273822

It would be great if he received some positive messages.

Stell
15-06-2017, 17:51
I read about him and the racial abuse, yesterday. He now expects it to happen everyday, which is very sad to know.

Sadly, I don't do twitter or I would send Jay a positive message - I really hope others on here will.

Nice for him to get a wildcard for Wimbledon.

Helen40
21-06-2017, 14:42
He's only got a QWC, but better than nothing considering his ranking, age and the flack he's been getting recently.

Helen40
21-06-2017, 14:44
oh, and he's got a dubs MD WC with Wilbomb.

Jay looked just a little outclassed losing 3-6 4-6 but a good performance.

Teresa
24-06-2017, 11:00
That's a shame. There was an article in The Telegraph suggesting they should have given him a WC for full Wimbledon not just QF. I am inclined to agree. The experience would be a great motivator for him.

Golden Lady
24-06-2017, 21:56
Jay looked just a little outclassed losing 3-6 4-6 but a good performance.

Yes I agree, was at Ilkley today and good to see this promising young man. His opponent was a class above tho at present & made it through to the final, which I think he'll win. Promising signs for Jay tho.

Jay's winning 6 - 3, 3 - 1 against Arevalo.

JAMES4578
29-06-2017, 14:03
Did AM ever have to go through Wimbledon Qualifying?

Andy never went through qualifying, he got a wildcard as 18 year old in 2005 and reached 3rd R losing to Nalbandian in 5. Ofner took 3rd and 4th 6-4 so into decider come on Jay!

Why didnt jay get a main wildcard i wonder?

I think he has been given one for the doubles. He will learn from this, and hopefully really get to grips with his fitness over the next year, and progress well enough to get a Main Draw Wildcard for next year.

I really think he is one to watch for the future.

JAMES4578

Match showing live on the ATP website.
Thompson serving at 5-5 in the first set, and 30-30.

EDIT. Jay has had 3 break points so far, all saved by Jordan.
JT just had Ad but denied by Jay. So, back to deuce.

Sallydaisy

Thompson holds for 6-5.
Jay will be kicking himself for not converting some of those break chances.

Sallydaisy
29-07-2018, 18:03
Tie-break. Thompson to serve first ...

*0-1 mini-break Jay
1-1* break back Jordan
1-2*
*1-3 mini-break Jay
*2-3 Jay needs to hold.
2-4* and does

Well done Jay, hold and 2 breaks should do it

Sallydaisy
29-07-2018, 18:08
3-4* DF for Jay ... break given back ...
Jordan to serve
*3-5 and Jay breaks again
*4-5 Jordan holds, Jay has 2 serves to take the set. It's on his racquet.
5-5* oops
5-6* OK, so one little point needed ...
*6-6
All square at the change of ends

Sallydaisy
29-07-2018, 18:09
Thompson holds for 7-6, it's all down to Jay.

Loving the commentary from the Umpires' mike whilst the players are off court (very long break they're having). He's made the linesmen tidy up the ball that were loose, then he ordered more towels and water and finally he gave the court staff permission to eat bananas and drink water to keep hydrated.

erm, plus instructions on what to do with the smashed racquet
and finally, to confirm to Jordan Thompson his code violation status!

Notable win for Derby’s Jay Clarke, still 19, beats Jordan Thompson of Oz 67 76 64 to take his first Challenger title, at Binghamton.

Only to be corrected by our very own BobInSpain:

Tremendous win for Jay, kept his nerve after throwing away opening set and good lead in the second. Another Aussie tantrum, nothing new that. Win takes Jay up over 40 places to about #175. Thought Jay favoured clay but he now looks pretty good on both grass and hard, especially when he is serving well. Sure he will get the third singles spot in Glasgow behind Kyle and Cam.

Jay won 6-3 6-3 and certainly has a winnable QF against Chung, now up to #170. In fact, Jay is the highest (live) ranked player left in at Lexington, so back to back challenger wins, certainly a possibility.

Had one eye on Jay vs Liam - very close set won by Liam in tiebreak. Last point Jay went down, I did not see what happened but he did not get up immediately. He had a short MTO but is continuing now - may have tape on left arm - just dropped serve first game set 2, got break back then lost it again.
Liam wins 7-6 6-4.

Jay has been having a great run in the Launceston Challenger. Reached the QF's but had to retire when trailing 1-4 in the final set. Been trying to find out if it was injury or some other cause. By all accounts he was enjoying being in Launceston. Hope he will be ok and not injury plagued.

Edit: A right foot injury apparently.

Federer beat Jay 6'1, 7'6(3), 6'2 - good to see Jay managed a tie-break against Feddykins.

Now though he can concentrate on the Mixed Doubles R1 where he's partnering Coco Gauff ... unfortunately, they're up against seasoned Mens Doubles champ Lindstedt and Grand Slam winner Jelena Ostapenko. Wish I could watch that ...
