Uh oh. Katie broken to love. Think she's had it now, I'm afraid - but keep going Katie.

Good effort from Katie though pity in the end she just fell a bit short,McHale certainly experienced though.
Kvitova a break down in the decider against Brengle, and looking done in. Is she carrying a bit extra weight after her injury?

Kvitova possibly looked on way back after winning 2nd easily but definitely struggling now and looks over for her at 5-2 down, blood pressure being checked.Whilst won Birmingham in 2nd event pulled out of Eastbourne with abdominal strain Didn't think she was as much as a favourite as some were suggesting but thought she might still do well if fit. Obviously wasn't the case and confidence maybe not highest here. pity but hopefully Petra makes progress in the months ahead.

Kvitova out makes Jo's R4 look easier assuming she can win her r3
a close match but Francois Abanda gets beaten by Ostapenko in 3 sets :crying:
a close match but Francois Abanda gets beaten by Ostapenko in 3 sets :crying:
I first saw Abanda at the French Open. I was really taken with her...she is so beautiful and elegant. I remember thinking then that her tennis was a work in progress, but she was very good today. I was impressed. Look forward to seeing more of her.
yes she was good today , but not quite as good as Ostapenko on the important points , she was broken quite a few times , but yes , a work in progress , something for me to look forward to , think shes gonna be better than Bouchard thats for sure !!!

Only seen tail end of Ostapenko/Abada match but Francois has potential. 3rd seed Pliskova who quite a few were tipping in real trouble and has now just gone out to Rybarikova 6-2 in the 3rd, some great tennis from her in the closing stages. Radwanska saved 2 mp's in 2nd set before beating McHale 6-3 in the decider.
Heart-breaking footage of BM-S' knee injury. Everything seemed to stop as she screamed in agony for help.
Didnt see it , but watched a clip of it , heartbreaking to hear her crying out like that !!!! She was obviously in excrutiating pain , poor thing :(
Dislocated knee maybe ?

From footage it was heartbreaking and so distressing , the club it said was an acute knee injury according to the highlights show (Mattek Sands suffered a torn ligament on the same knee in 2013)

BBC saying Konta is now favourite. Hope she is hidden away and knows nothing of the brewing hype. Fingers crossed.
I think we should talk Halep up on here to counterbalance the hype.

Certainly Konta is in with a chance, and were it any other tournament you would think she'd progress without too much discomfort. But as the spotlight on her grows, will she be able to deal with it. Better players than Jo fade away when it gets to the latter stages of Grand Slams. Looking at Jo's path to the final, it is littered with tough matches (Garcia, Halep/Azarenka, for the next two) so hopefully she is taking it 'one match at a time'.

Handling pressure is all part of what makes someone a deserving champion. Whatever is said/written about Jo for the rest of this tournament is nothing compared to what Andy's had to deal with every year. All I hope is for Jo to find her best, if it's not enough for the title then so be it, but choking because she can't handle being the fave is a no-no. I think she'll be fine, she seems to have pretty good emotional control these days. :peace::thumbup:

I think it's daft the BBC etc are saying she's now the favourite without qualifying that is only in betting terms. Most pundits are not mentioning her as one of the most likely winners. Now it will seem like a failure if she doesn't win.
Plenty good players left in the draw - Woz, Kerber, Vandeweghe, Rybarikva, Williams, Ostapenko, Muguruza, Kuznetsova and more.

agree with that - BBC, desperate to have a backup in case Andy doesn't progress, will want to keep British interest going as long as possible, to justify the massive expenditure. And will some-one please tell John Inverdale to shut up as he clearly knows nothing about Tennis. He even suggested Mark Petchey fetch him a cup of tea yesterday cos he couldn't think of anything else worthwhile to say.

Good list of players - but will the winner come from those? I had small bets on a couple of long priced players (Safarova and Garcia) as it's a most ridiculously open event. Konta has found herself as fave almost by default. Arguably the most impressive tennis I've seen so far has been from Watson and she's 66-1!! An impossible to predict tournament and one I'm certainly not going to invest any more money on.

I like Bacsinszky but hoping for an Aga win - good luck Aga :peace:
First set to Timea 6-3
Heart-breaking footage of BM-S' knee injury. Everything seemed to stop as she screamed in agony for help.Just watched Bethanie on Facebook, she dislocated her kneecap and ruptured the patella tendon. Obviously facing surgery and an extended absence.

Radwanska takes 2nd 6-4 to force a decider, whilst big fan of her style don't think she has a great chance of winning a slam now. Kerber was set and break down to Shelby Rogers but also takes it to a 3rd (winning TB comfortably) Don't really see her as a strong contender though. Whilst Johanna Konta in the mix a bit too much hype at the moment,Venus Williams is probably the favourite though not an outstanding one.

Entertaining match and Aga runs away with the decider 6-1  Good to see her find some form in a slow year.

Certainly enjoyable match and good to see Aga come through strongly in the decider, though Timea fell away somewhat. Next up against Svetlana Kutnetsova and if both in form should be interesting. Kerber survived coming through 6-4 in final set but will now face Muguruza in last 16 and will certainly need to step up, would prefer Garbine to come through though anyway.
Coco Vandweghe is my dark horse for the title. I watched her play Jo at Edgbaston and she just hit Jo off the court. She also has Pat Cash in her corner now.
Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/wimbledon/wimbledon-2017-bethanie-mattek-sands-injury-update-news-dislocated-kneecap-ruptured-patella-courts-a7830761.html)- Bethanie Mattek-Sands dislocated her kneecap and ruptured patella tendon in horror Wimbledon injury

Round 4:
Kerber v Muguruza
Radwanska v Kuznetsova
Rybarikova v Martic
Vandeweghe v Wozniacki
Konjuh v V.Williams
Ostapenko v Svitolina
Konta v Garcia
Azarenka v Halep
JAMES4578

A few upsets today in ranking terms but probably not too surprising as Muguruza put out Kerber 4-6,6-4,6-4, Vandeweghe got better of Wozniacki 7-6,6-4 and Ostapenko ended Svitolina's hopes 6-3,7-6. Unfortunately Radwanska didn't too much against Kusnetsova going down 6-2,6-4 and was pretty easy for Venus over Konjuh. Seen the first set of Gabrine/Angie and looks like it was the best contest, recorded the rest.
Confirmed that the remaining ladies' quarter will finish under the roof after Konta v. Halep, if that ever finishes...

Well Coco may have had outside shot but didn't handle occasion well today , going down to Rybarikova 6-3,6-3 who's had good run since knocking out Pliskova (who will be new world no1 . Will face Muguruza who looked strong in 6-3,6-4 win over Kutnetsova. Other semi of course is Venus V Johanna Konta.
So much for my dark horse! As you say, James, Coco just didn't cope well with the occasion - well done, Rybarikova. Who does everyone fancy for the final?
JAMES4578

I'd definitely go for Muguruza to reach 2nd final, whilst Johanna has won 3 of the last 4 meetings think Venus is the more likely winner in the other semi given the surface and their respective routes. Hope Jo can win but think she'd need good start and couldn't make as many errors on chances, like she initially did v Halep.
Poor Magda. She is having a nightmare out there. She is crippled with nerves and Muguruza so aggressive. Good play by Mugu.

Hope that lob can give Rybarikova a boost and make a match of it
C'mon Magda! I hate to see anyone hit off the court in a semi - unless they're playing Andy, of course!
Muguruza is one game away from the final.

Thought Gabrine would win easily but hoped Rybarikova would've performed a bit better however she was so uptight-disappointing. Mind you Muguruza was confident and constantly kept her under pressure.
Not to be for Jo today - there will be other days, I'm sure. Well played, Venus!
Helloooeee! Anybody at home? Women's final shaping up quite nicely. Could be a good match. Anybody know why Venus waves her hand before her face after she hits a good shot and sometimes after missing one? I noticed she did that during her match with Johanna too.

Hello to you too. Yes, good match so far.
Is she asking for her towel maybe?
Get in Gaby!! First set. Great stuff! I think you are right about the towel thing WW. Been watching closely!
Yes, I also assumed it was asking for the towel - Andy does the same. I don't understand how they can keep their makeup on.
Vamos Garbine!

Good match and some great play from Garbine to save 2 sp's and finally take first 7-5. Got a break at start of 2nd too ,though of course got to keep the level up. Venus seems to be fading a bit though,Spaniard now has double break at 3-0.
I really enjoyed the first set but I wonder is Gaby going to run away with the second?

Maybe beating Jo took it out of Venus.

Whilst wanted Gabrine to win and she's played some great tennis, disappointing Venus' game has fallen away so much and Muguruza hasn't been tested more in the 2nd. Still deserves the title, well done!:cheer::cheer: Credit to Venus for reaching another final ,wonder if her condition played a part or was it a combination of physical/mental factors. Obviously pity Jo didn't get more chances in the semi but think Garbine proved to be tougher and had a bit more variety.
Well done Garbine Muguruza the 2017 Wimbledon Champion. Really happy for her. Sad to see such a collapse from Venus but as ever she is a very gracious loser. :trophy:
I enjoyed that!
Well done Garbine!! :trophy:
Congratulations to Garbine. :bravo: :trophy: :strawberry:

Congrats Garbine. Enjoyed watching her play last Saturday when I was on court 2, title well deserved.
Congratulations, Garbine!!!:grass2::yahoo: The fairytale wasn't to be for Venus. I wonder if we will see her at Wimbledon again.
cant remember the last time I enjoyed a ladies final like that one
Garbine was terriffic !!!
I think this was arguably one of the best women's Wimbledons in quite some time. The final was maybe not one of the most outstanding ones, but there were some cracking matches, mostly thanks to Johanna.

Have loved watching the women's tennis - and seeing what they could do when not eclipsed by Serena.

Women's tennis much more interesting this year. Was lucky enough to be at the final today and see Garbine play that amazing match. So happy for her.
I think Garbine looked stunning in her party frock at the champion's dinner last night.
